my grandfather used to like this song i didnt knew him but its strange to know that he used to enjoyed this song as i do.3 generations rockin around the clock
im a cotillion club instructor, and have been in cotillion since i was in 6th grade (im now a senior in high school). ive been doing the charleston line dance to this song for six years, and it never gets old. i've got so much variation to the original step haha...its awesome
Yes, this stuff is still great today. It still holds up. Radical for its time, for a white band to play "black style music." Bill might as well burned a cross on stage and said "We worship Satan." Those were the sick social mores of the era.
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Recording Industry Association of America announced that Bill Haley´s all-time classic, "Rock Around the Clock" has been declared the top traditional rock and roll song of the 20th Century.
Bill Haley and his Comets! Long Live them! I love this song! This song is why I love the music of the 1950's and 1960's and the entire 20th Century basically.
From FF FAQ:"Also on June 17: On this day in 1954, guitarist Danny Cedrone died.
The 34 year-old arguably created rock's first great guitar solo. His work on "Rock Around The Clock" is known to millions, yet he himself is all but forgotten. Never actually a member of Haley's Comets, Cedrone was a session player (he's also heard on "Rocket 88") A freak accident just weeks after recording the song claimed him." -sav
Bill Haley is known the world over as the Father of Rock ’n’ Roll. Haley was the first white artist to combine elements of rhythm & blues, western swing, and hillbilly music to produce the upbeat, danceable, and infectious sound known today as rock ’n’ roll/rockabilly.
Having older parents has definitely affected me... my Dad is 69 this year and i'm 19 a few weeks later and it's all his fault that I love this music... and the fashion of the era too
@willpn100 It sure is an anthem! Check out this awesome redition of this song. Just browse YouTube for "Ray von Schmalz Rock Around the Clock" and enjoy.

@Adrian0140 don't forget checking Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chubby Checker and the rest of the "classics". Ask your parents / grandparents about them, will be a wonderful way of spending time with your family and listening to good music.
My parents loved this song. My father is 74 and my mother is 69. The first rock song they heard on the radio here in Germany was Haley`s "rock around the clock". He`s called the father of Rock and Roll and opened the door for Elvis and all the others. Today Bill Haley would be 85. He already died on february 9, 1981 due to a fatal heart attack in Harlingen/Texas. Best wishes to you and keep on rockin`.
Back in the day this music was considered to have the ability to pervert the youth. I wonder what those naysayers would say about today's music? I know! They'd be rocking around the clock with Bill Haley!
@juufa72 what on earth were those do-gooder critics on to be able to make such conclusions. I've never thought there were any double entendres in the lyrics to this song. It's harmless when you listen to some of the shit today that encourages suicide and self-harm. Bill Haley would be rolling in his grave if he knew what 'rock'n'roll' means today. But what a fantastic song nonetheless! :)
Dude Katy perry is the worst artist ever, yes worse than britney, she cant fucking sing, SHE CANT SING, her voice is like listening to a chciken getting raped by 2 fat dudes at the same fuckin time
Recorded on April 12, 1954, the record didn't sell many copies when first issued a month later.
