"calling Dream Theater a ripoff of Muse is just stupid since Dream Theater has been producing music for so much longer".
but I really dont agree with that. I mean, I dont think DT is ripping off MUSE I think it's great that they draw influence from bands and admit to it, but it does'nt make sense to say a band cant rip off another just because they have been making music longer.
it does however make sense to say they wont rip off cuz they're DT !! ;)
Nope..Their songwriting hasn't gone to shit since FiI. In fact, that's the album that everyone started doubting their songwriting capabilities and inspiration..then SFAM was written and is some of their best work to date. I don't believe they are fighting each other's ego's either..because it seems they all have an equal part (except LaBrie) in what's written. Also, Rudess is just a different type of keyboardist than Moore or Sherinian are..which also accounts for the change in songwriting.
I don't understand why all you guys do is bitch all the time. We all like music and we all have different tastes in music, so why argue about it? No one is "right" in this situation. So what if you're a "metal elitist", pull your head out of your ass. DT is an awesome band. They try different flavors on each album, but always maintain the art and musicianship that make them Dream Theater. If you don't like it, get over it and go wack off to your elitist music.

the last part of chorus in "panic attack" is like muse melodies... i miss the original unique sound of "awake".. i do not want to hear the other group's melodies in DT..i just wanted to say this.
Hysteria and Never Enough sound a lot of like in some parts...no copying though. There are plenty of pairs of songs out there that get mistaken for each other, because good song writers pretty much use the same basis for writing songs. But take time to look at the forest, not just one tree(or song).
Ok, Muse came after DT and copy THEM..not the other way around. Although the guys in DT are fans of Muse, it is because they influenced them and they are a new act. End of story!
Anyway, the album is going to kick ass and I get my tickets in less than 12 hours when they come through Chicago..OOOOOOOOHHH YEEEEEAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!
Dream Theater and Museare two different acts, and although they like each other Muse is certainly not influenced by DT. They both have a different style of music. I really van't imagine Muse playing Octavarium, or DT playing Knights of Cydonia. But still, both bands are the greatest ones in the world!

Muse is the first band EVER to have an intro like in Take A Bow AND are the first to use riffs similar to ones they have used in their songs. Get it right people.
The overall Muse comparison didn't enter the discussion until you mentioned it. It's not about Muse quality versus Dream Theater quality. It's not about saying Dream Theater are a bad band. It's about riffs sounding remarkably like Muse riffs on numerous occasions and it being disappointing, because the fact of us being DT FANS shows we do care about their music.
Dude! You were the first person to make bring up the Muse thing. You've made your point multilpe times. Just let it go. You have your opinion and I respect it, just give it a rest man.
I can't believe you are comparing DT with Muse. Come on, one thing is influence, and other is quality. Dream Theater is way superior to Muse in terms of Music. Ok, Muse is a great band, very creative, but come on!! Dream Theater has way better music quality. Complex harmonies, odd times, time changes etc!!! do no t compare!!!
panic attack? i can understand never enough, but panic attack? and besides, i personally think never enough was done intentionally to sound like stockholm syndrome, just to piss the ungrateful "fans" off. listen to the lyrics. to me, the song says, "hey, you don't like what we do? fine, we'll do someone else's music."

I think the muse reference is really cool. =) It's just the intro that sounds like take a bow anyway. =P Someone should clear up the difference between tribute and ripoff. hehe ;)
You can see me when the camera is backtracking on the line outside... i get up in the cam and say "envelope #9 for the 9th album baby!" You can also hear me shout, when Mike messes up directing the song, "c'mon Mike, it's only 4/4!" Whadda great day =P
great video, and BTW i respect what DT does, but i think the intro sounds too much like muse, maybe the rest of the song will be completely DT. And for those who think DT is losing creatvity are dumbasses.

I am horribly excited about this new CD... though a little sick of people saying "this song is a ___clone" or "this song sounds alot like ____"... When people can appreciate that, they will stop downplaying everything Dream Theater does!

Muse - Take a Bow. I'm a big DT fan and am fully aware how the band borrow from their influences (ie. Solitary Shell = Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel, Home = Forty-Six & 2 by Tool) and quite enjoy the fact they do it; but for some reason this whole Muse sound really grinds me gears (and I'm a Muse fan too). The fact is I miss the sound/days of I&W, Awake... ahh well.
I agree 100%, but like I said before, I think this album will be alot like Octavarium, in which the shorter songs really show their influences, and than the longer songs return to original DT fashion. And one review said Prophets of War was pretty much a Muse-Clone, so its no suprise for me

Sucks that you would make such a comment without hearing the whole song.
Interesting comment. Great to see how Dream Theater openly admits that they take influences from all their favorite bands, and lay out the cd's that they want to incorporate into their songs. They started as a fan band, and they still kinda are in a lot of ways. This is self-admitted of them, so nice try at an insult. Dream Theater making something in the more simplistic style of Muse is an honor IMO

Out of respect for Dream Theater, let's keep the discussion to the content of the video until after Systematic Chaos has been released.
