I work at a yacht company in west michigan. My company has about 3/4 of our employees laid off. So many people I never thought I would be there longer than have been laid off. It's been about 1.5 years since the first big round of layoffs. When I look around me I see over 20% of the people I know unemployed or underemployed maybe more like 30%.
I just saw something earlier today, now the government wants to classify their job stimulus as how many jobs have been funded and get away from how many jobs were created or saved.
That move will only allow them to manipulate the data even more in-turn making it look as though they are really doing something. I will find a few links to the info and post the story.

If an employer (don't have to be self-employed), does not have an EIN number and does not have to pay unemployement insurance, than ANY of his workers will never be able to receive unemployment and will NOT be counted in the numbers.

I love the fact that barely no one mentions the fact that do to U.S. population growth, we need to add close to 80,000+ jobs per month just to stay even in an actual 'jobless recovery'. If we actually gain 40,000 jobs in a month, it still means we LOST 40,000+ jobs because close to 80,000+ people should of entered the 'job force'. Any job growth less then 80,000 per month is a negative job growth in the big picture. But I could be wrong if for the 1st time the U.S. population is at a standstill.
Saddest part is, people have been giving up looking for work for over a year. I personally have not been counted in this data because it's nearly 2 years since I've bothered to even try. Our local paper would average about 30 help wanted ads in the newspaper and always has all of my life. It's consistently dropped. I Think Karl is very smart and usually right. I do agree that gold will get bumped during an unwinding, but I really dont see that happening anytime soon. Selective Inflation: According to an AP article people who have lost their jobs are being rehired, if fortunate, at much lower wages. Meanwhile prices (besided houses) have remained relatively stable.

I agree that the recovery is a cover up. I just think the Pres. is gradually sounding like a parrot. I know author Michael J. Panzner has spoke of rising secessionist movements (e.g. Vermont, Texas) and Marc Faber thinks a huge currency crisis will emerge possibly in 5-10 yrs from all the poor fiscal policy and money printing. At this point I would vote in guys like Schiff and Ron Paul.

Good assessment, what China just discovered as they raised the growth numbers for their economy is that all those manufacturing jobs, HAVE INCREASED THEIR SERVICE SECTOR, imagine that. As our manufacturing is being gutted, were now seeing the big job losses in our service sector. With the no value added TSA, DO YOU HAVE ID JOBS being created, and other security jobs, you have to wonder how healthy the economy really is. We are also not addressing the infrastructure upgrades we need either.

I love the fact that barely no one mentions the fact that do to U.S. population growth, we need to add close to 80,000+ jobs per month just to stay even in an actual 'jobless recovery'. If we actually gain 40,000 jobs in a month, it still means we LOST 40,000+ jobs because close to 80,000+ people should of entered the 'job force'. Any job growth less then 80,000 per month is a negative job growth in the big picture. But I could be wrong if for the 1st time the U.S. population is at a standstill.

Saddest part is, people have been giving up looking for work for over a year. I personally have not been counted in this data because it's nearly 2 years since I've bothered to even try. Our local paper would average about 30 help wanted ads in the newspaper and always has all of my life. It's consistently dropped. I looked yesterday for shits and giggles... *3* job listings, and two of which required degrees (high school coach and dental assistant).

Though it may be hard to imagine, the government manipulation of the perceived improvement in the job market is going to increase dramatically with the 1.4 million temporary census jobs that are scheduled to be added in 2010.
They're going to hold this thing together with Elmer's glue and duct tape until after the November elections.

I believe and trust Mr Denninger, not this slick guy. Just my opinion. Think some more about deflation. Gold just went up because people think the Fed will inject further money and keep interest rates low because of the bad unemployment data. I think they won't. They have been making noises about this since December at least. Dollar up, gold down IMO.

Denningers forensic analysis is unequaled. However, I believe he is simultaneously wrong about gold and right about deflation. Deflation in terms of what? Money, but that raises another question: what is money? Money is the physical representation of your labor and to act as money it needs the following characteristics: A store of value, useful as a medium of exchange, and fungible. Nothing in history has served that role as well as precious metals. Deflation, yes, in terms of money: gold.

An intriguing comment.
For gold/silver, it appears that so many people on this channel seem to believe that gold/silver is money and fiat money is bad so the question is null for them. They have to keep gold and silver no matter what considering their beliefs.
For speculators, the question is different whether to know it is time to get out of gold to plunge back into the comfort of fiat money.

In theory, there is nothing wrong with a fiat currency; currency is just a claim check on the goods and services produced within an economy. But, in theory, I should not have to worry about someone stealing my car when I park it.
We live in a period when history, on many fronts, is trying to reassert itself; gold as money is one of those.
All asset classes have their day; precious metals, IMO, are just entering noon time . . .

I Think Karl is very smart and usually right. I do agree that gold will get bumped during an unwinding, but I really dont see that happening anytime soon. (This is where some of us disagree) Also, think about how nations around the world are actually long dollars by holding them. The USD held by central banks FAR outweigh the 500 B that suppossedly exists in the carry trade. Traders r short the dollar, the rest of the world is still long the dollar which makes sense to me, so I continue to hold

Karl is a very smart person but he also believes, he believes that governments will do the right thing.
He has been bearish on gold for ever and will never change because our system could work if we let people fail and wipe out the debt.
Unfortunately you can see for yourself the government will never do the right thing and stop spending and let people fail.

Don't forget all of the people who worked off the books that are no longer employed. Plus people still working who have had their pay/hours cut. Things are bad right now, especially for small business. The stimulus was a farce, my customers are large union construction companies and there are no "shovel ready projects" from the stimulus package. The number of people that remain unemployed 12 months+ is appalling, because at that point job skills weaken making it harder for them to return to work

Another aspect of the " shovel -ready jobs" , especially those on highway constuction/ repair is that these jobs are largely being done by ILLEGAL ALIENS.
Govt's hire contractors to do DPT projects and these contractors are hiting illegals.
Look at the faces of those who are doing the work as you drive by them.
Also, the " GREEN JOBS'' ARE BEING DONE by PEOPLE IN PRISON. this is a matter of public record, and there are plans on the table to deliver MORE of these jobs into penitentiaries.

Just because they're brown,doesn't make them illegal. By trying to pin any of the current problems on anyone other than the elitists that actually orchestrated the collapse, is not only detracting from the main argument; it weakens what could be a unified movement in coming up with REAL solutions to the problem at hand.
Regarding prisons, the DOJ is looking at implementing some more programs around construction using prisoners. I know because I am party to one of the proposals.
