if the dam broke you would probably have less than 2 minutes to get to cover, its like telling someone not to step on a mine when there foot is only an inch away
no, you usually have some time to get out of danger. and by the time the dam actually broke, the smarter emergency management agencies will have warned their citizens that a crisis is imminent and they'd best prepare to get of dodge quickly.
Yo. I'm looking into buying this radio, but I have a question: this thing seems to emphasize visual alerts alot on the online details, but it doesn't mention it being equipped with an EAS alert tone. Does this specific radio have one? thanks.
Why is it a continuous siren? In England we have a warbling up and down siren to warn of impending disaster - this would be similar to our "all clear" or in my day "raiders past" siren. Why the Americans have to be different is beyond me!!!
Then I'd hate to live in Des Moines! I went on vacation there a few weeks ago, and their siren system is a mix of 2001s and WPS 4004s. I can't stand either one!!
The DES guy wasn't sure. Apparently, we had more like that in the past near the river and it filled with water. He did say though, that he has considered placing the courthouse one in Southgate, which is a suburb of Miles City. If he does, I will have some footage, I would love to hear that old girl fire up!
I love the "this is a pub--- ERRRR" part XDD

By the time the siren winds down, the town would already be under water.

never mind. Just found out it carries 100 dec. Is it still a pretty good radio? I'm SKYWARN too, and a portable radio would be nice.

Well, Francis1930, the steady alert tone is to warn of a natural disaster like a tornado.
The attack (wavering) signal is used very often in the US. It is just used for non-natural disasters like an attack, fire, etc.
Here is a video of a 3t22 in alert & attack:
