To check C:\ is still there then type in tree. Also type dir /s. This is MS-DOS 1999 wich is like command prompt (cmd) on a PC. If there is no drive then your PC is no more. You can not even reinstall windows. All that is left now is the BIOS. MS-DOS is not the BIOS but when you updated the BIOS it somehow forgot the windows drive (Command:\ (short syaing is C:\)).
Go in to you bios and check and make sure thatthe setting are set to auto, after the Post, Power on self test is complete using the tools on your startup disk type format c: /q "warning this will erase all information on you harddrive, you will need a installation of the operating system (Windows Ect). After is it should work.
Ask your computer manufacturer for a BIOS update compatible with Vista, or ask it how to update with an NTFS drive.
Use your computer's serial number or service tag to determine the latest update. Newer BIOS packages can be run from XP or Vista. Be sure to use a UPS when doing an update.

Drive C may be formatted using NTFS. A windows millennium startup disk will not read that type of volume.
