To sustain such heavy use, John's whammy bar would have to be made of steel forged and refined in the fires of the sun. Seriously, it looked like he was about to snap that thing off.
I saw their one-off shows during this tour, which turned out to be the second-to-last headlining show with Portnoy. This ending was celestial. I think it's all down hill for me as far as my concert-going days from here. I've never seen so much passion put into one concert as this one.
This is amazing. That volume swell section always bums me out but in an awesome way. However If I heard tomorrow, or any day, that DT were going to finally end... that very same section would have me tears I have no doubt. It has that real relective effect. Like a lament. To write and deliver music like that to us is a true gift. Long live DT!
does anyone know what strumming pattern he uses for the chords? the note values are apparently (quarter - sixteenths - quarter - sixteenths) according to the tab I'm looking at, but it doesn't sound like it in the video?
@Dufflad08 Dude , i learned this first Petrucci's part in kind'a 1,5 hour ... keep in mind that he improvise a lot in this bridge/outro/ solo or whatever its called
@guitarralaraja Well only he can, Petrucci is a Rock star and internationally know for his awesomeness. his wife as well is a guitar player in a band and owns her own record company (if I'm not mistaken). I'm sure the banks are yelling at Petrucci because they can't hold all his money. :) ahah
One of my most favorite song of the moment. I would like to get this one in the next DVD with lattest drummer. Could this be possible the new one could be the former one? OK I am just dreaming. I will not get a new DVD soon, after years of patience I will have a DVD without "The Count..." and Mike will never go back! I am not optimistic tonight.
Like i read before... how do you know you are watching a DT's video?....When you have the word "part II" or "ending" on the name of it and yet lasts more than 9 mins :P
your face must have caught on fire at some point during this. you're just lucky to have been able to show the world the guitar playing bear without ding in the process. kudos!!!
This reminds me of Yes' instrumental passage (right before "I get up, I get down") on "Close to the Edge". Of course, with a more modern and edgy sound.
@FatJudith he's playing with the flow within some the chord progression of the song! my point is just that he doesn't play that same solo every time without some alternative tweaks - john petrucci in a nutshell!
When you experience this ending live, then you can feel like JP seeing his life time-lapsed in front of his eyes while fearing his near death. But there is nothing then pure peacefulness. The entire room fills with magic and you are flushing the whole universe while listening and watching.
a befitting farewell to LaBrie and Portnoy. The best ever ending to any song. Period. A7X, you guys are nowhere near the standards of DT, even with Portnoy. DT are just the best in the business.A proud owner of their entire collection. The best ever collection in music history. Melodical, Enchanting, Bewildering anyone with their flair, talent and appreciation for music.
Every band, every musician has one song that is their finest, the pinnacle of their skills. While Dream Theater has many of utterly fantastic songs, songs that wrench the heart and songs that lift the spirit. THIS song is their pinnacle. Simply, it is the best song they've created with the members of the band that they have. It's sort of fitting too... their pinnacle coming at the end of a chapter (with Mike leaving). He could not have left on a higher note.
