Awesome collection! I recomend you check out the Blu Ray release of Star Wars The Clone Wars season 1-3 and Robot chicken Star Wars episode 3. They are pretty amazing!
@Seraphical My parents are from England, so I've always had a soft spot for British dramas. And this one is superb! Great acting, fantastic dialog, good plot, great characters - it all equals compulsive viewing!
@TaishaJason i remember you telling about the parents :) i will definitely look into downtown abbey now!! the last birtish drama i saw was emma (bbc, 2009) with a fantastic cast, such good soundtrack, and smart dialog -- maybe you'll like it if you happen to see it. i LOVED it!
I don't have a Blue Ray player.. I really don't own a lot of movies. I spend my money on outdoor gear. I want to get a few movies..but most likely I'll be getting DVDs for now.
@markshmily I didn't rush to change over either. But I have to admit, with a bigger TV like my new one, and with movies like Star Wars or Tron, my Blu rays look Amazing!!!
I agree that some movies "need" Blu-Ray more than others. I think it's worthwhile for movies with lots of action or special effects like the Star Wars movies or The Dark Knight, but it'd be wasted on something like The King's Speech.
Hey, Jason. I thought that the PS3 wasn't region locked for games, but WAS locked for films. But are you saying you are able to play American BR's on Japanese Pioneer you have?
@106460 I said "stand alone" BR player - meaning its primary function is to play blu rays, as opposed to a PS3, which is a game console that also plays BRs.
@TaishaJason Yup; Sony owns the Blu-Ray technology and the PS3, so they made the PS3 double as a Blu-Ray player to try to help themselves compete against Nintendo and Microsoft in the video game market.
Do old shows like the Prisoner benefit from Blu-ray's technology? I like old movies mostly and don't know if there is a benefit to Blu-ray over regular DVD.
@perdomot well, sometimes a BR release will go hand-in-hand with a remastering of the original - I've heard for instance that the new BRs of Star Trek Next Gen are amazing. The Prisoner discs do look great, but not significantly better than DVD versions I've seen. The main reason I got that set is I only owned it on VHS until now and all the extras only on the BR set.
Good to see you talking about films again fella. Netfilx has just arrived in the UK. Love the Star Wars set, funnily enough I've only watched the original trilogy I had to get The Complete Saga but I'm note a fan of parts I, II, & III. Great start to your Blu-ray collection. I don't know anyone who is interested in digital copies. My PS3 says BD on the remote as does the remote on my stand alone player.
Spartacus is an amazing show, last friday was the first episode of the second season of Spartacus it was Epic, i hope they have NA channels in japan so you can enjoy the show jason ;)
@TaishaJason he's doing Andy Whitfield justice, I couldn't be any happier that they pick a great actor to pass on the name Spartacus. trust me when you see it you'll be impressed how much of a resemblance he has from the original.
Great start to your collection. My local Book-Off has the Complete Saga for about 15,000 yen... I've limited myself to only picking up discs that I can't get back in the UK, like the truly-uncut Kill Bill Vol.1 DVD.
How are the HD versions on the Complete Saga? I only just got round to upgrading my original trilogy to DVD last year (Those VHSs were just too big a part of my childhood...) and I'm debating whether it will be worth my time getting the Blu-ray.
@intheinaka the trilogy looks and sounds spectacular in the new set. Of course, the main draw for me is all the extras you can only get in the 9-disc set.
Great blu-ray collection so far, I only buy blu-ray that i do not own on dvd cause i don't want to have two copies of the same movie or series. Blu ray series can be an expense here in america but if you catch it on sale or find it online at a good price. One series I recommend to have on blu ray is True Blood there are 4 seasons so far but the first three are on blu ray.
@tiggergirl06 I liked TB a lot, and watched the 1st three seasons via iTunes. But this most recent season has felt a little flat to me. But I'll give the new season a chance when it rolls around.
I don't watch the digital dvd copies. I still watch DVDs though because I sometimes prefer to watch DVDs on my computer/laptop. The thing about giving the DVDs away is that it'll be awkward since you'll have an empty DVD slot in the DVD. Oh well. Oh man, I loved Kick Ass and Scott Pilgrim! I've got them both in my collection. For some reason, I've been having a hard time finding a copy of Scott Pilgrim on Blu-Ray with a slip cover though. Not sure why. Anyway, great collection!

@ThatOtherTom i agree to an extent - which is why I still buy most of my TV box sets on regular DVD or thru iTunes.

I need indiana jones on blu-ray. Blade Runner is the best blu-ray I have. I start drooling at the opening credits and am swimming by the end.
NikkeinJapan 3 weeks ago
@NikkeinJapan yeah - I want to pick up Blade Runner. Is Indy on BR? If so, will have to add that to the list as well.

@stormko unlike DVDs, Japan and America share the same region for Blu Rays, so yes, my American BRs play just fine on my Japanese BR player.

@TaishaJason hi Jason.
Sorry about that. I must have missed that part.
I was reading the description for the video, and was left wondering after looking up a couple of dictionaries.
Thanks for the kind reply :) I'm studying English, and I enjoy your videos.

@106460 haha - yes, that was a typo - a mistake I made. Thanks for telling me. :)

Excellent choice of films! I'm especially glad to see you have The Prisoner. Definitely one of my all time favorite series.
I'd also recommend the Blade Runner Ultimate Collector's Edition. It's right at the top of my must have Blurays list.
MerkabaZA 3 weeks ago
There are 17 episodes of the Prisoner, not 13...and yes it really is an excellent series. The recent remake wasn't remotely as good.
