I too would have loved to see Banner finally be cured. I'll admit ***SPOILER ALERT***when he died in the final movie, I cried my eyes out. Just the way they played that sad tune, Banner saying that he's free now and then the Lonely Man Theme, all of it together was so sad. Not to mention I became attached to this character by watching him go through so many adventures. He Hulks outs, gets placed into a psycho home, becomes blind and paralyzed. I just assumed he'd survive anything and get a cure.
people always hated Mcgee's character because he was considered a threat to The Hulk, but in all fairness all the best episodes of the Incredible Hulk have Mcgee hot on his chase! The First, Prometheus, Death in the family, and Broken Image just to name a few! in my opinion even at the age of 36...this is the greatest tv show of all time...it wasn't just about a guy getting mad and turning into the Hulk...it was extremely well written and directed..dealing with drug abuse, child abuse ect ect
I used to watch this show in marathons on the Sci fi channel when I was younger. The effects and acting are really good and I think this show is far more effective than anything presented in the movie format the last decade. Plus, the ending piano theme just stays with you, excellent piece of music to accompany the show.
If only Bill Bixby was alive today, he would've made a brand new Incredible Hulk series, with Lou Ferrigno reprising his role as the green giant. It would put a lot of today's shows like Glee to shame. Anyone agree with me?
You forgot too mention Ted Cassidy, he was also in the running too play the creature. Even though he didn't get the part, he did the voice narration of the opening scene. He also did the voice of the creature for the first 2 seasons.
I agree. The new ones may be all very flash and polished, with plenty of action and special effects... but they none of them quite have the heart that the series did. You actually gave a damn about the characters, even ones who only appear for that episode. The best, even today!
Kenneth Johnson changed his name too David too get past the comicbookish names. He tried too put has much into the real world has possible. There is still a scene of Keal has the hulk looking up the tree. Bixby was the best choice has Banner, he was always in support of the show and was never reluctant playing him. The only thing he hated were the contact lenses. But has an actor, he said lets get them in, lets get the shot,. I miss him too this day and still have his autographed photo.
@teddyrocker If you watched the interviews with Kenneth Johnson on dvd. he tried too get away from comicbookish names. And put the character(s) in real situations.
@hulkster46a Of course he did, but if Stan Lee says that Johnson himself said to him the reason was cause "Bruce Banner" sounded "too gay"... well I tend to believe him. After all he´s Hulk´s creator.
By the way, sorry for deleting my comment. I wrote it before watching the vid and didn´t know Haphazard mentioned that issue there. When I realized he did I thought it wasn´t necesary to repeat it.
@teddyrocker I tend too go with Johnson's view of changing his name too David. Too get away from the comicbook names. If you watched the dvd interviews. In the second Hulk movie, "A Death in the Family." Stan wanted the bear that was fighting David, then the hulk, too be a robot. But Johnson talked him out of it, saying the audience will only go with one buy at a time. Buy meaning, you buy Banner turning into the hulk. And try and keep it has real has possible.
@WarriorSmurf What has Kirby to do with the issue here? He was never involved with the series nor the movies, he wasn´t even mentioned in regard of Banner´s name change. A name that was created by Lee (the proof is the B, B first letter, Stan Lee´s trademark)
Also, even legally Stan Lee is registered as Hulk´s sole creator. A few months ago Kirby´s family lost their sue against Lee about the rights upon Lee/Kirby´s characters including the Hulk.
What's so ironic about that is: okay, you think Bruce Banner is too much of an alliterative comicbook name. Uh huh, and what's the name of the this show's star? Bill Bixby! Not only is it an alliterative name but the same damn consonant repeating.
If you watch the special features for season one Lou says that a script for a fourth TV movie had been completed but it never went beyond the script stage because of Bix's illness. What I find funny is that Bixby went from being reluctant to even be involved in the series at the beginning to becoming one of it's biggest boosters, even spearheading the TV movie revivals in the '80's.
I live in the Philippines. Since Marvel is now under Disney, it would be nice for Disney Channel Asia to air the Incredible Hulk everyday at 7:00 PM and replace the boring Mr. Bean episodes. Disney Channel Asia should also air the Hulk pilot movies on Disney Channel Movie sometimes for a change.
This show altered the origin but, for a change, it made it better - more real - more dramatic. A testament to how influential this show was, the two movies made recently borrowed heavily from it but, ultimately, failed. Of the two CGI Hulks, Ang Lee's emoted more and was more sympathetic. The latest one was horrible, however. As this show proves, there is no substitute for good actors and a real Hulk but the Bix and Lou are impossible acts to follow.
We are probably close in age so I too have the same affection for this series as do you. Bill Bixby and Lou were my idols growing up and to this day it is still my favorite television drama/suspense programs of all time. I miss this show. Nice job on putting this together!
Thanks so much for this!!! I really enjoyed your narration and analysis. I was young when the Hulk tv series first aired, but I remember it well. While not an avid comic book/superhero follower, there is something I love about Bixby playing David Banner. It's hard to describe the exact quality he had, but I've been waxing nostalgic for good tv lately and recently ordered the complete series. He's a terrific actor, and I'm glad others still enjoy his work enough to post it here. Thanks again.
The Cartoon from the 90's was my first introduction to the HULK when I was a child and then I watched the HULK movie when it came out, only about a year ago did I watch this television series, and it left such a huge impression on me, much larger than any of my previous encounters with the HULK, this series is a pearl.
I agree that Banner should have been cured, but I thought the last Incredible Hulk movie (SPOILER) that was done involved the series ending by killing off David Banner and the Hulk.
Thanks soooooooooo much for this video. It is so informative. There is an Indian movie superhero, Krrish, created in 2006. I don't know if you have ever heard of him. May be it is worth putting him in your series as well ;))))))))
i am hoping that you can do a review of Flash Gordon movie from the 1980s, because it is not only campy like the batman tv show, it also has music from the rock band, Queen.

@teddyrocker Actually, Lee's the co-creator. Lee even said that Jack Kirby (the other co-creator) had more to do with the creation of the character.
