@memsermann No I havent been to Stoke Poges, yes its a pity his grave hasnt been restored. Its about time a grand statue of this great poet was erected, there doesnt seem to be one judging by a quick search via google. The recent statue of Sir John Betjeman at London's recently refurbished St Pancras Railway Station is a real beauty.
@stenesk The music and vocals work for me. I do wish the video footage had been more professional. Its so difficult to watch with all that waving about and out of focus.
@stenesk I totally disagree....music adds so much....I have to say that without Rick Wakeman's music and minus your snobbery attitude only presents listeners to incredible literary work to which they would never be exposed.
@Would have been great WITHOUT that awful music

A seamless symbiosis of literature and score that sets an imaginable backdrop against a depth and feeling that Gray would have devoured.
Wakeman & Powell - a formidable combination that was never to be repeated; sadly.
A piece that I often revisit whilst viewing the poem from the interweb thingy and following every line I can relive over & over the atmospherics.

Thank you for your contribution - but let me say that I opine the music, masterful as it is, detracts from the haunting beauty of poem and reading.

I have this on vinyl somewhere.
While I'm a fan of Rick Wakeman, I'd love to hear this reading without the music.

Thomas Grey is an often overlooked English poet whose seat should be amogst the greats such as Shakesphere and Milton.
The rich voice of Robert Powell certainly adds depth to this great and sadly overlooked beauty by Rick Wakeman.
5 Stars.
