I'm already a subscriber, and as I just got your message as an email, I'm hoping I'll get notice of any new videos the same way. Good luck in acquiring another video camera. Please keep up the good work. Dan
Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Would you please send me a message when your new video(s) will be available for viewing. As always, thank you for the help your provide.
@drdanconnie i think if you subscribe, you'll just get a notification either in an email, or when you sign on to youtube. but i'm not sure when i'll be doing one just yet because i don't have a working video camera anymore :(
Again, I thank you for getting back to my concerns. After watching the series 2nd vry dffclt sdk a few times I saw how you insisted on pairs. I used that on my last 2 dffclt pzzls and it worked! I'm still a little fuzzy at picking pairs out of cells with more than the "obvious pair"; but I will practice and you know what's said about practice. Thanks for summarizing your method. Please air another video so I can again analze your method. You have your act together. Dr. Dan
@drdanconnie As soon as I happen upon a new video camera I will. I have so much to say, so I might break up the vids into tricks/techniques. Or just make one video. haven't decided yet.
Hi again. Here is the problem I’m having. After exhausting obvious singles and pairs I stall. Do I then start employing your other techniques of filling in missing cells in rows, columns, and boxes? When I do that I wind up with plenty of candidates in each cell making it look rather hard and not as simple as your examples portray. In short, is that the strategy you employ? Thank you. drdan@cmedix.net
@drdanconnie I never ever EVER ever EVER fill in all the possibilities of each box. When I first started, that's the only thing I knew how, then after years of doing it, I just found shorter ways and back then there were like NO sudoku videos. So ok here's my method, FIRST I get all the easy ones that are obvious. Then I say "one, one one..... two, two, two." finding all nine 1s, all nine 2s, so on. SECOND, I go back to finding the obvious ones. THIRD I finally count the rows and columns.
@drdanconnie eventually, and as a last resort I say to myself "ok this cell needs a 1, 2, 4, 6, 8...." or whatever it needs, and see if any other cell matches. but I barely ever need to do it that way. Only on seriously hard ones. usually I can solve any puzzle with finding the hidden pairs (pairs that are literally hidden)... ugh the more I explain the more I want to make another video. Maybe I'll make a vid where I explain to someone who wants to learn. they will most likely ask good Q.s
Misskitty6 Thank you for responding to my question. Like yourself I’m addicted to Sudoku. Until watching you do your 2 YouTube Sudoku puzzles of very hard and very difficult I was using the technique of filling the cells with all possible candidates. It got boring as it wasn’t using your very smart technique of logic. Now I’m genuinely addicted to Sudoku using your logic of 2 candidates in 2 cells, 3 in 3, and 4 in 4. Please put on more YouTube presentations. Dr. Dan
Hi. Thank you for going though the effort to help others with their sudoku endeavors. I’ve watched your videos several times and notice you strive to get a pair of unknowns in each box. When I try on my own I seem to come up with the unknowns being in 3 cells rather than 2. You say you just start anywhere, but I believe you are looking for something each time that leads to the condition that yields the pair of unknowns. Please get back to me. Thanks again. Dr. Dan, drdan@cmedix.net.
@drdanconnie Um, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Sometimes there are 3 cells with 3 possibilities in even harder puzzles. This is more than acceptable as well. The puzz in the video did not have this situation, but I have done plenty that has. If you can successfully narrow down 2 cells of only 2, 3 cells of only 3, and in extreme cases, 4 cells of only 4, then you are still on the right path. Hope this helps.
Hey thanx for ur great video... Ur such a natural...that's to say...there are many examples of pple using "solution grids" and those methods that go with it.
It always look quite unnatural and it takes a long time filing in those candidates per cell and most of the times there just isn't enough space...
Just the other day however, I encountered one which was too difficult for me using your methods/tricks and I wld like to know if you can crack this one.
@mbejvb thanks so much for all the nice words. it really means a lot to me that I'm really helping people. i most definitely want to take a crack at the puzzle that stumped you. I love a challenge. message me on the youtube messages and we'll figure out how to get me the puzzle.
@mbejvb i would absolutely love to. I only have a printer at work, so if you send me the link, I'll likely only be able to print it out there, but if I'm busy, I can't stop to check youtube and print out a puzzle. But I'll try!
its just watching someone play sudoku, there arnt really any tips, obviously you eliminate the possibilities. Im trying to find tactics or methods but cant find any anywhere, every video is some one filming themselves playing sudoku. Thanks for posting tho.
hey...just wanted to thank you for the video and the tips on sudoku. this will really help me solve the puzzles quicker. i love solving sudoku and crossword puzzles.
you've got talent!!! :)
thanks
p.s. the pictures on your crystal clear website are amazing!!!
@badad4444 the only reason i didn't do that is because then where would i set the camera in a position facing down perfectly to record the book and my notes close enough? i put it on the end table by my bed. it seemed to work. i've been thinking about doing another vid but i don't have any more books :(
ok! ready for another video. please repeat the little tricks as i get them as u do them but on my own i get lost. please include more of yr "good lucky things"!! i have no idea how u knew when it was time to find the 3 in the second top box, second row, 4th column! and some one who has never done one before needs a lot of reinforcement to learn the tricks! so, please: repeat, repeat, repeat!
I would love another of yr videos. I find myself starting to do it the way that you do. then I get to a certain point, and get lost or frustrated, or frustrated, and start writing in a ton of the possible numbers for ALL the boxes, cause i don't know what else to do- and if u could see me do that u would pob think-what a fool-So another video, in which u maybe give a full shot of the page so i can copy it, and then follow along! thanks, really trying hard to do this right. U are great
Thank you so much! Your videos helped me so much! Your method is the best I've seen on Youtube and you're right about not guessing; that 'Howcast' person said to "guess when you're stuck" LOL
@PianoArrangements !!! WOW!! thank you SO much for saying that. that's really the BEST compliment ever. the way you feel is EXACTLY why I made these vids. some smarty pants out there think these methods are too easy for them. well good for them! not everyone gets it. i taught myself the solutions from scratch. no one helped me. therefor i can found the best way to solve these for myself and want to help whoever I can with what I found.
@PianoArrangements i've played the piano since i was 4. i hardly play anymore tho. did u see my cat in another vid because he's not in this one. his name is Kittyboy. he's in other videos of mine. click on my name to see my other vids.
yes it's possible. it just takes a LOT more memorization. I have a few free sudoku apps on my iphone, and they obviously don't make the same notes as me. i've had to adapt to their way. it's harder. i still think the pencil note taking is way easier.
You do a lot of short-cuts that I found helpful. I would benefit more if you did more Sudoku videos like this one explaining your way-of-thinking again.
Pretty cool videos. I took a blank Sudoku grid and followed along using a pencil and a pen. Works good. I even paused many times while I figured ahead.
You have definately helped me out! I was doing beginner and I skipped to hard after seeing this. Thanks! And I'm totally impressed by your credentials. Way to go!
You rock!! I was trying to count everything and do process of elimination! I was taking forever! And all these strategies online are waaaayyyy too complicated! You made it really easy!! Thanks!!!

Thanks for the vid, Tiffany.
I've just started trying Sudoku to help me switch off and I just love it
Thanks to you I'm been solving the more tricky ones after a few days.
It's great to put a pencil to paper after spending hours in front of a PC.
The only problem is that my wild cat (Bengal) keeps trying to kill my pencil to get some attention :-)
Sorry to hear that your having some "single problems" - I've been there myself and know what I pain that can be.
