Hey fatjud it's me from your Jimmy Driftwood posting. Just worked my way around YouTube to Charlie Monroe. I'm going to listen to all I can find. I cant afford to buy any CDs because I spent my last dollars for Bills Bear collections. I appreciate your posting of these tunes .
@Jm01394 You're welcome, i get a lot of stuff from friends, i can't really afford the expensive stuff either, i'm glad you enjoy what i have uploaded.
Bill would sing sang out of tune occasionally, something which is not always noticed when two or three voices are used. However, I have a solo of his doing Danny Boy which is excruciating.
@chinshihuandi My father often told me That money would set me free, If I would murder that dear little girl Whose name was Rose Connelly. Now he sits in his cabin door, A-wiping his tear dimed eye, A-looking at his his own dear son, Upon the scaffold high. My race is run beneath the sun, The cell is waiting for me, For I did murdered that dear little girl Whose name was Rose Connelly.
Down in the willow garden Where me and my love did meet, There we sat a courting My love dropped off to sleep. I had a bottle of the Burgundy's wine Which my true love did not know, There I poisoned that dear little girl Down on the banks below. I drew a saber through her Which was a bloody knife, I threw her in the river, Which was a dreadful sight.
Man, love that high lonesome sound. Wasn't familiar with Charlie Monroe. What IS it about murder ballads that so attract me? Want to learn this. One song i love to play and sing is Knoxville Girl. I don't like movies or novels or news about such things. Strange. thanks to lejeune1945 for emailing me about something else, and i went to his/her website (facebook? unsure) and found this as a fave.
@ndrct You're welcome this is my favorite version also. My mother and uncle used to know and play music with him way back when and my mom said he was one of the nicest people you could meet and she always liked Charlie better than Bill.
love it:))))
