  • Beautiful!! I'm sure John Mason would be thrilled at this version of his Slow Air.

  • @davidbrodlie

    may thanks...enjoy!

  • wow

  • @bunnydoc57

    I hope that's a good wow!

  • Very enjoyable change from the Fiddle Orchestra version. The "Flower of Portencross" is a wild flower, the Bloody Cranesbill or Geranium Sanguineum (red, not blue) which grows in the rocks near the old pier at Portencross. Flowers June - August. (Flower identity info direct from the composer).

  • thnx for the feedback...and the information! So is there any story behind the flower or is it simply a pretty flower? 'Bloody Cranesbill' must have a story surely?

  • Fairly mundane, I think. There are several types of cranesbills, so-called because the seed container, after flowering, has a long pointy bit like a crane's bill. This one is red, so someone called it Bloody.

  • ah..... thnx for the speedy update....It makes sense now.

    Anyway....its a great tune ;o)

  • thnx....I like it! ;o)

  • Well done, Kev. Another lovely video. Keep 'em coming.

  • Poland's OK, thanks. I'm still collecting 'placs' where there were Scots communities in 16th/17th Cenutries and have added to my album. Intending to post more vids sometime but having computer trouble... Talked some guy into booking me for a concert in the far wild north. We'll see.

  • great stuff, Kev.

  • according to clanboyd website "

Portencross Castle is the fourth Boyd castle or tower house that we have been able to identify. This castle was the traditional place of departure from the mainland for the funeral boats carrying the kings of Scotland to burial on the Holy island of Iona. There is a rare blue flower found there which is associated with both the castle and its sometimes sad function. This history is remembered in a song called "The Flower of Portencross."

  • Nice one! Thnx for the background. How is Poland these days...and the music of course? Time you posted some more videos......

  • That tune sounds like it's the original for the hymn "What a Friend we have in Jesus."
