TV is producer driven, Film is director driven. The Director in Film is in complete control, especially someone of Bay's stature. Hollywood works by one thing and one thing only- MONEY. It's why 90 percent of movies suck from the start. Just LOOK at this summer: almost EVERY blockbuster is a sequel to a cash cow or some other remake of a popular medium. Studios want what makes money, and a directors vision is a distant second...or third. Producers control movies, they feel like they know what americans want to see, and again 90% of movies suck. magicalnegro, directors don't have the final say, the producer does, if peter jackson said he wanted a giant pink balloon made out of possum's balls in every scene then the producer could, would and should tell him no you can't do that, and the director can't say a thing. Most directors don't have complete control over the story boards and filming, the director of photography has that (notable exception coen brothers who do all their storyboards).

Point: Bay doesn't write any of his films, he only directs them. Though the stereotypes in his movies certainly aren't encouraging, I don't know if he can truly be blamed for them. An even worse movie for racial stereotypes is the remake of Gone in 60 seconds, with the 'oh so funny chinese girl who can't drive'. That film is a hateful peice of work.

The director is always at least partly responsible of the script. He influences every part of the movie. Almost all of his movies have atrocious dialog, with poorly developed and stereo-typical characters. This is a consisten trend in his movies.

actually, michael bay is responsible for the acting career of michael clarke duncan. he found him in a gym and cast him in armageddon. Many consider that part the first black supporting character to survive an entire action film. He made the bad boy films 1 and 2, which included shoot outs against members of the KKK by will smith and martin lawrence. And in the Island, djon honsou comments on genocide and is the most compassionate and professional character in the movie.

You're kidding right? The first black supporting character to survive an action film? Anybody who considers Armageddon as the first example of this has a really short memory. If we consider Danny Glover as a main character and not supporting in Lethal Weapon, then there are still countless other examples of mainstream films from the 90s, 80s, and 70s, never mind BLACK films where this isn't uncommon at all. To claim Michael Bay somehow rallies against stereotypes is insane!
