I remember an old record that had about a dozen of A. A. Milne's poems set to music. It included this one & others like "Christopher Robin is Saying His Prayers", "The King's Breakfast" "Halfway Down" and others. I think the name of it was "Tell Me a Story" and on the reverse side if I remember correctly it had the soundtrack for "Hans Christian Anderson". I really wish I could locate a copy of it. The songs are still part of my childhood memories after all these years. Does any 1 have info?
@WhoOnEarthAreYou Heh, me too. I got a CD with half the songs on when I was 18(I'm 22 now) but, it doesn't have when father papered the parlor or grandfather clock. Shame really.
It brought back memories and I don't know where I heard it from when I was around 4 or 5 years old but I loved the ditty. Great song that has stuck with me still after all these years. I thought maybe I imagined it.
Count me in for Captain Kangaroo..and all the way up to 2008: Coldstream Guards performing this on tour at Wheaton College in IL-really good! Two of the bandsmen protrayed guards as Drum Major called out commands. I recalled how much I enjoyed this little tuen-so happy to find it again! Thank you!
Thank you so much for putting this up! I know I'm just echoing what has already been said, but my mother used to sing this to me when I was little, and I loved it. I recently introduced to to an American friend when my whole family, after a bottle or two of wine, burst into song! He's now converted :)
My mum would sing this song to me when I was a child. She must have been four or five when Ann Stephens was recorded. Thanks so much for loading this. You are what You Tube is all about!
so so glad you put this up! i used to listen to this all the time when I was tiny...and it just popped into my head again after years buried in memory....thankyou

i'm so glad I found this - started singing it today and my husband didn't believe it was a real song - he thought I'd made it up! My gran used to sing it too!

I think I joined the Army because I watched the changing of the Guard on CPT. Kangaroo.
Which was good for me.
