My favorite soviet plane is the TU-154 , the IL-86 is known to be as the " sapito " in spanish which mean the ' toad ' because of the short range , and the fuel inefficiency .

Until about 8 years ago, nobody was ever killed on an IL-86. The first death was when a B737 rolled over on approach to land, and hit an IL86 on the taxiway. It was a catastrophe due to (Boeing) design problem of the 737 rudder actuator pilot valve. On IL-86 has since crashed due to pilot error.

Nikolai Talikov is the chief deisgner of IL-86T. I met him once. Very intelligent gentleman!
