I have to say, this photographer clearly has the technical skills.
But this set was all over the place, i personally consider myself a documentary photographer.
And as a reason would focus my attention if i were to create a photographic set to documentary, not portraits, cat portraits, intimate landscape, still life, documentary, and reportage style.
As from personal experience, i would never try and stretch myself that much, i tend to stick to architecture, street, and documentary.
@rorrt I get bored taking the same thing over and over again, which is why I change it up a bit. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to maybe find something I'm good at/enjoy that I might not have been aware of before (like photojournalism for example). As far as paid gigs though, I currently do weddings and dog portraits - everything else is just for fun. My website has a pretty wide array of stuff on it.
Yes, i definitely understand that, ive been shooting for about 5 years seriously, and i found very quickly i really don't like the studio, or landscape really. And i found that i had a knack for documentary photography and maybe street, not to say i can't do portrait, or other styles, but thats what i mainly enjoy doing..
How long have you been shooting?
On my website i only have documentary and architecture. As well as a portfolio, with more fine art work. I'll take a look at your ws
@rorrt I've been shooting on and off for about 20 years - started with a Canon AE-1 Program, graduated to a Nikon N8008s and Velvia, took a break for awhile, and then discovered digital back in 2008. I actually love studio and hopefully someday will have my own. I don't do babies, maternity, family portraits, etc..not my thing. I started out in landscape and still love it, but this area sucks for that. I need to head out west for that. I'm working on a waterfall calendar, though.
@geoffbaehr They are around 20 years old, and the bride was a bit nervous. I have the standard "nice" wedding shots, but I like this shot since it's kind of unique and not the normal, everyday wedding shot that's been done a billion times. I don't use Photoshop, just Lightroom :).
@geoffbaehr Thanks! Yeah, I think if it was a "best wedding photo" critique, I definitely would've chosen something much different. That was a fun wedding to shoot though :)
hey adam, great vid. you critiqued my photos a while back. im the one with the D1X. i wanna work for a couple online automotive magazines such as "stancenation(dot)com" or scrapedcrusaders(dot)com" got any tips?? also, what would be a good upgrade from my D1X?
Your habitus as a photographer is really show in your way of looking at a compositions and lighting/processing. I like to see how well you find those small things that for some of us are still impossible to even see.
Excellent critique Adam. Best one yet. Gave positives and negatives. Thanks.

Yeah that wedding couple looked bored. Swap 'em left to right in Photoshop. =D

@drouleau Yeah, it's difficult judging one shot when it's part of a set. Good work though! =D
