I think they might have tarred and feathered her. It washes off, but the tar sinks into your pores and as a result you get boles.

It seems to be the basic material for asphalt. I don't know the exact name in English, but I mean the crude petroleums used for covering cracks in the roads, streets, etc. As it is impossible to take it away from hair. It's a very popular and harmless punishment. Sorry for my English. :-)
