  • @SmurfAndBuffalo lol "Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band with Choir"

  • @SmurfAndBuffalo

They change their name whenever someone leaves or joins the band.

  • SILVER MT ZION DID WTC

  • so amazingly epic. I'm a fan for life. or, possibly beyond the grave.

  • MAJOR CO CI JEST

  • I like how they can express so much without words, it's amazing... You can forget about all those famous popular bands nowadays. I think this is what music really is, a song without words and then again with a statement, which evolves from the title and the music. :] Yey for good music!

  • This is just awesome, inspiring & sad all at the same time.

  • 4:02 is what you hear when angels arrive on earth

  • @nonphixional1 except there is no such thing as angels. i feel this song is what you might perhaps hear during the entropic heat death of the universe, a paean to the memories of long since extinct civilisations and species, to the beauty of a universe we were lucky enough to gain a fleeting glimpse of.

  • @SirMachinae i don't believe in angels. you've read too deep.everyone is entitled to their own opinion.it's like poetry we all have our own interpretation.

  • @nonphixional1 better not to leave any room for doubt, there are too many people willing to latch on to those kind of statements

  • @SirMachinae this is youtube not a college thesis. i was the first to share that that portion gave me an apocalyptic vision. i used angels to represent the end.also i feel the tune was heavenly. you can pick at that one line all you want that's my opinion. you took the scientific approach and described a big crunch. they are both similar as we are talking about climactic emotions. i have my interpretation you have your own.you have heard my analysis and we have heard yours. good luck with that.

  • infinity∞

  • a beautiful song nearly spoiled by ignorant sh!ts

  • To me this video has nothing to do with religion (only had a glimpse of some comments posted so far). It has some more serious meaning behind but need some more time to figure it out. These dandelion like figures may have some conncection with sping or rejuvenation, I think, And the slow motion and rapid acceleration of the clocks and their final fall into the water... maybe it simbolizes autumn or something.

  • @zsilizsoli DNA+ dying dandilions= death that of course is only my opinion, for what its worth, depreasing i kno, but most of their stuff is quite meloncholy. but perhaps the seeds could lead to hope? idk, its about the music

  • @mdvo5 Should not forget about the title of the song which in a way fortells the real meaning of the whole song. Looking at the title I can see some evidence of treating the song to be somehow connected to resurrection or Jesus Christ's "rise" but I think this "rise" refers to our daily "getting-up" procedure and has nothing to do with religion. It's all about starting another rushing day, being dissatisfied with our conditions etc.

  • @zsilizsoli agree to disagree? lol art is what you make of it, no?

  • @mdvo5 "art defines itself" so there is no point in any human intervention :-)

  • religions gay

  • One of the best videos on this entire website... seriously

  • Reminds me of that movie metropolis

  • so pro!!!

  • you should really never question someone else's idea of beauty.

  • wheres the love button?

  • @charleeinwonderland sadly, this isnt last.fm

  • funny. ;)

  • ohhhh myyyyy gooddddddddd im tumbling down the steps of flowers

  • full of black and white

  • awsome video and music; hypnotic

  • Beautiful...

  • Suena como cuando te dolió y aun no lo olvidas.

  • I'm gonna sound like a noob but is this godspeed you black emperor? but with different name? or am I being stupid? lol

  • Lots of the same band members (notably efrim menuck), not the same band though

  • @jamsand3 It's another band, but with some of the same musicians as in GYBE

  • Lovely as always!

Setting up a trio with similar vibe I hope...

  • let me know how that goes if you get any results half as good as this I'll be on your fan list for sure:P

  • beautiful and fuckin' awesome

  • beauty inside

  • DNA

  • 5/5

  • Beautiful. I like the duo violins in the song and the piano backing them up. It somewhat reminds me of the basso continuo that appears in opera (the basso continuo is made up of harpsichord and violin).

  • Wow it's amazing how music like this can affect your mood

  • Stumble then rise on some awkward morning

  • Solemn, dark, and meaningful.

    How I like my post-rock.

  • In the desert I saw a creature, naked, bestial, Who, squatting upon the ground, Held his heart in his hands, And ate of it. I said: "Is it good, friend?" "It is bitter-bitter," he answered; "But I like it Because it is bitter, And because it is my heart. - Stephen Crane -

    -stephen crane-

  • @dobermanster where'd that come from?! Perfect.

  • @dobermanster Describes the emotions carried by the song perfectly.

  • @dobermanster Wait... Lovecraft? No? What happened?

  • @InSuchSkull

what do you mean Lovecraft? im intrigued.. that was my grandfathers best friend...

  • @onlylovetogive

Lovecraft was your grandfathers best friend????? do tell some stories, does your grandfather have any of his writings? if this is true man, i need to hear everything haha.

  • Recovering love to post rock.

  • This band and God Speed You Black Emperor are the best band since i dont know..its beautifull man, sublime.I love them.

  • several members of either band where in both at one time or another. although it's a little easy to guess which ones.

    nice to know

  • this is my favourite album

  • so this is you put everything down, with all continuities.

  • could someone message me any songs like this one that are orchestral in manner but very short and poppy like this

anyone who likes this should check out the main max payne 2 soundtrack it's beautiful aswell and similar in mood

  • "Short and poppy"? Those are two words that I would definitely NEVER associate with Silver Mt. Zion's music.

  • damn thats deep

  • just felt this. music!

  • Remarkable video and simple but beautifull music... I like it!

  • wow...

  • "Nigga", you be trippin'.

  • Watching this video, I know I be trippin.

  • Everyone shut up.

  • hey man don't take it personal... i didn't say it was bad necessarily i'm just saying it's not nearly as original as you guys would like to think. vocabdoctor just went over the top when he called it "terrifyingly beautiful." and I'd be willing to bet i know a lot more about music than you think but i don't see how that's relevant.

  • I have a feeling the breadth and diversity of your music collection leaves something to be desired, but I could be wrong, and you could possess a remarkable degree of musical knowledge, but I think you're missing the point here, the beauty of this particular piece of music IS the simplicity of it, I'll be the first to say that I love multi-instrumental compositions and symphonies, but I think you're being deliberately short-sighted and dismissive when you write this off as "soundtrack music"...

  • Additionally, I think your remark about this piece of music not being particularly original is a bit off the mark as well, primarily because ALL music is built upon what came before, unless someone invents an entirely new genre of music, ever work of art is based upon it's predecessors, they just find new and innovative ways of presenting it, again I think you're being rather dismissive and short-sighted to say that a piece of music is lacking because of it's unoriginality and simplicity.

  • @Ostendere May we all embrace the music. Notes are notes, rhythmic phrases are rhythmic phrases. Stop treating music like an item. Start treating it like a language.

  • @Ostendere I know this is an old comment, but I would like to point out that you are completely looking at this the wrong way. Music shouldn't have to be about complexity, sometimes it's just about the feeling it provokes in the listener. This song sends chills down my spine, not because i'm admiring their musicianship or incredible songwriting ability, but because it moves me, period.

  • Oh, that is one of the most haunting and terrifyingly beautiful things I've ever experienced, I did not expect this.

The part where it shifts from light to dark is strangely bewitching and emotionally stirring to me, I can't put my finger on it, but there's something about it that really moves me, this entire thing gives me some serious chills.

  • mindblowing

  • wonderful video, thx for puting this on

  • GY!BE Just spectacular

  • maravilhoso (really beautiful)

  • brilliant, brilliant musicians.

  • no hope

  • F♯A♯∞

  • holy shit. awesome video

  • I feel this an adequate moment to express overwhelmingly, my adoration for this exceptional piece of musical art. My heart wanted to jump out of my chest, and came close to doing so...

  • lol! Good one. For a second there i actually thought I was!

  • I have to start listening to more of this band their amazing. This song sounds like a much slower version 'sit in the middle of three galloping dogs' in the first half.

  • A piece of perfection...

  • Search The Murdochs - 1968.

    Awesome upcoming band!

  • I tried to buy this on itunes but this band isnt available in america! fuck itunes!!! :(

  • im probably the only kid in my school who listens to this band

  • Make that the only one in town ;p

  • hi5!

  • does this song use a violin or a viola?

  • violin

  • To : asinkingship AND neuraxianfusion; STOP bitching and listen to the music. You are acting like children.

  • Acting like children by discussing? I see! I was merely tossing back and forth implications of an idea; there was no pejorative intent. Or is discussion now considered taboo by most in society? I suppose I can just turn off my brain and turn on the t.v... ;D

  • I didn't even know such beauty could exist in this world...

  • Music is a gift of god.

  • no sir, it is a creation of man. to rise up like a god, rather than be controlled by one.

  • Sir, why not if it can help you in any way

  • we make the music, we help ourselves. I'm sorry if I don't stake much claim in an invisible construct or attribute the beauty of music to it either. I don't know what kind of god needs to be praised for every note we make or every thought we produce, that sounds like a jealous deity to me.

  • You Sink too much, Sir.

    God may bless you.

  • I do not sink, but rather have a different interpretation, you can't really give up that easily can you?

  • No I should not but it is nevertheless what I am going to do.

  • A jealous deity, if one is to consider a deity as sentient and literal; a particularly modern interpretation of religious sentiment. Ancient mystics viewed the entirety of existence as God, and with existence encompassing everything from atoms to the water-cycle to thoughts to breathing to insects to human beings to galaxies, would praise God for everything that occurred in existence. It was a means of creating a reverence of reality instead of a reverence of the human interpretation of it only.

  • That is but another 'human interpretation', I attribute human actions to human behaviors.. if you want to get into language games, then yes. I am a god, you are a god, this text box is a god, and god bless it all. I'd rather stay below metaphysics and meta narratives, and create and know something to arise from the self. That sir, is not entirely a modern concept.

  • You misinterpret me. What I was communicating was that, regardless of form, the essence of an ideology bears results in physical reality. This can arise from the self or from religious mysticism, and has done so in various areas. I am not a Christian, but I would take a Christian mystic who creates a society based upon values that are reflective of life and thus in reverence of it over an individualistic atheist who is content with his armchair and his truth.

  • not all athiests are subjective, or individualistic. not all atheists are content with "armchairs" and not all atheists subscribe to the idea of an objective truth. Moral standards and meta-narratives give greater way to a coherent notion of ideology with such ideas as truth. I would conceive that it makes much more sense to say that an athiest has more grounds to view humanity in not a "right or wrong" fashion, or not a totalitarian theistic manner.. an athiest does not have to prove anything.

  • Except for the lack of a spiritual entity, in most cases. Pardon me, but I find little difference from a ranting baptist priest and an atheist ranting about the non-existence of a God or gods. What you are describing is amoralism, nigh nihilism, and something I feel can be perceived within a religious context as well as without one; Advaita Vedanta would be a prime example. Truth, as I see it, is a lens. Our truths are our meanings prescribed to reality, which is beyond truth.

  • subjectivity is very limiting.

I preach nothing but to construct your own reality and to quit posturing yourself out of meta-narratives. Placing a title on what I am saying is pointless.

  • This, as far as I am interpreting, leads to the very same dissemination that is plaguing the modern age. People construct their basis for value and action from what they feel reality should be, and ignore the context, design, and structure of it. We know objects by function, the creation of perception occurs when we attach a token or symbol. When we experience a stimulus, we experience the same variables, we only label them differently, so why not base our actions from these?

  • Fun Fact #5,990: Religious debates in Youtube comment sections ultimately get nowhere.

Fun Fact #5,990b: People who have religious debates via Youtube comments don't shut the fuck up as often as they should.

  • @Itriphus Fun Facts : most "facts" are made up on the spot.

  • @TheOriginalEntz

    >thinks that those "fun facts" were meant to represent factual information

    OHGODICAN'TSTOPLAUGHING

  • @Itriphus wow this song is totally religious! who wants to fight about it?!

  • @fumpsee I am christian and No it's not. Debate is over.

  • @KafelObrotowy yeah i was just kidding. its kinda hard to make an instrumental about religion.

  • @fumpsee ;] Stop doing it... or no, keep it up

  • @KafelObrotowy well the white growing rings could be representative of the halo and the overall ascending violin riff could be symbolic of ascension to heaven. or not.

  • @fumpsee I agreed with you for a second and then realized that thousands of famous classical music pieces from the 9th century onward might disagree.

  • You're being arrogant and annoying here dude. He wasn't language gaming, but simply remembering what was the true meaning of deity and so, at the beginning, before humans started to get into these personal monotheistic gods (which you're fighting against). Nothing else but being thankful for beauty and grace of life and universe.

  • that was perfect explanation, thanks for teaching the ignorants. Peace.

  • "I don't know" that's your main problem, you don't know. Seek then.

"that sounds like a jealous deity to me. " in fact, you sound like the jealous one here, as you felt the need to react to CRETDEAU's very simple words like "no it's not gods it's ours!!!" haha. Poor little greedy human, enslaved in his possession things.

Who ever this music and clips is a gift of, humans or god, its AWESOME and SUBLIME. Nuff said.

  • people need to appreciate the fact that its here, in this world. Who gives a left toe nail where it came from, at least we can relish in it.

  • beautifulest !!

  • thank god i randomly stumbled upon this. fuck it's gorgeous.

  • this is so beautiful... i love it

  • i just jizzed my pants

  • Me too. Twice.

  • Oh my god, and I dont believe in god

  • looks like mushroom clouds viewed from a plane when you can't see the helix designs on the right or left.

  • Most beautiful song in the whole fucking world.

  • Nice animation.

BTW the song in this video is only a movement of a 23min song titled "Lonely As The Sound Of Lying On The Ground Of An Airplane Going Down". It appears on their debut album, "He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts of Light Sometimes Grace the Corners of Our Rooms" which came out in 2000.
