  • Yes, this is an amazing video of an amazing artist. I became very well acquainted with John Singer Sargent when doing research on the Gilded Age. His paintings are just the most beautiful & he was in great demand in his time & had to turn many people away. The music is a great complement to the video as well.

  • This is great, thanks for posting! FYI, the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown is featuring an exhibit on John Singer Sargent: "Portraits in Praise of Women" now through Dec 31, 2010.

  • Chopin did not write a Nocturne for the left hand alone. This is the famous Scriabin Nocturne for Left hand alone. Other than that....great video. Sargent is my favorite painter.

  • If ever there was a wizzard with a wand

  • Has anyone else moved so masterfully between impressionism and realism, between landscapes and portraits as has this great master? Bravo Brenda!

  • great portraitpainter, placed into my playlist of John Singer Sargent... 5*

  • GREAT !

  • Wonderful tribute and perfect music.

  • If i had just 1% of this mans artistry....well i would be blessed....he is still the greatest painter that has graced this planet to date.

Ive seen so many of his works.....he never stopped painting....lucky man!

  • I think you are probably better than you give yourself credit!

  • beautiful! thank you for your video.

    arigatou.

  • 3:43 my favourite one!

  • 3:11 is my favorite on this video.

  • My all-time favorite Sergeant painting is his portrait of Mrs. Edward L. Davis and her son, Livingston.

...Check it out, and see if you agree.

  • Damn, I hate photoshop. That thing will kill soon the real art like this is, you will see...

  • i just finished the book " Madame x"

I have such an appreciation for Sargent.

    Timeless, and utterly breathtaking

    thank you

  • he painted with light and with life. thank you mrs. gardner.

  • His brush stroke are so loose yet the painting is very realistic. Each brush placement is no accident. A virtuoso.

  • Yes, the economy of his brushwork and his gift for deft accuracy without precision is almost peerless; I don't think any fellow painter could fail to be endlessly fascinated by his technique.

  • Singer was no doubt on of the greatest Portraitist of all time(probably 2nd only to that of Velázquez), but his real love was impressionism which he expressed through water colors near the end of his life. If you would like to see some of his work here in the states I would encourage you to visit the Boston public library, he was commissioned to paint quite a few halls and ceilings there (very impressive!).

  • One of the great Masters...Wonderful , thanks....

  • These are so beautiful. It must be overwhelming and a wonderful experience to actually see his works in a museum.

  • A real master!

  • Completely breathe taking....

He is by far my favorite of all time.

    His pieces are absolutely priceless.

    Realism at it's best!

Thanks for posting such a timeless slide show.

  • Thanks for posting this. It's pure brilliance.

  • This guy is a genius. I love his work so much. With just one brush stroke he can make a dress look like silk or velvet. Amazing.

  • My favourite master, him Lyendecker, manet and Hals

  • An absolute master!

  • A friend and I watched this entrancing video.

I think we are on some cloud. That was wonderfully done. Thank you!

  • that was lovely , but there is one painting i like , i dont know the name but its a girl holding a doggie in her arms , that painting is wonderful , i wonder if you had the picture somewhere?

  • The painting you speak of, is it in the video? Not sure which it is, can you give the time it shows up? Try doing a Google image search of Sargent and see if it shows up there. Let me know if you find it.

  • Its not in the video no , and on google its just one small picture from a painting site , i wanted it bigger ... the pixels r too small there

  • Ahhh that is why I did not use it, too small. Try websites that sell posters, reproductions of paintings or art history sites. Also you could try your local library. There you could maybe make a color copy from a book. I'm sorry I couldn't find it. Do you know the exact title of the work?

  • gecko1963 my dad, a true Sargent, and a brilliant artist, but refuses to paint!

  • @alinatitch

I know it's 4 years too late to answer, but the painting you mean is the Portrait of Beatrice Townsend. Beautiful painting it is !

  • I adore Sargent, especially his watercolors. What a treat to have this available. Many thanks for making and posting.

  • Thanks for watching. :D

  • This is perfect, right down to the font!

  • Thank you very much!

  • You do such a wonderful job matching the music with the soul of the paintings. Thank you so much.

  • You are welcome, I try hard and it makes me happy to know my work is valued. Peace.

  • Oh my, his paintings are absolutely gorgeous. A beautiful video.

  • Yes, they are and such classic, regal works. Thanks for watching!

  • Uno de los mejores pintores retratistas del mundo,

    felicidades

  • John Singer Sargent---he needs no words, the music you chose says it all----complimenti

  • Thanks kenneth1950! For watching and taking the time to comment! :D

  • I love this. Makes me want to see them all up close and personal =)

  • Don't it though? Thanks for stoppin' by!

  • Wonderful video although a few of my favorite paintings were missing ;) I love his paintings of 'rosina' and his portrait of Lily Millet is my favorite.

Especially considering his close friendship with her husband and fellow artist Francis Davis Millet.

I would love to see a video of Francis D. Millet's work, he isn't as well known but his art was just as breathtaking and his life story is rather amazing

  • An American Velazquez. His work often embodies languor, indulgence and a brooding sort of calm. I think it is through his dramatic use of evocative light and atmospheric shadow that the figures seem caught in inner or personal revery. Great video. Thanks.

  • Great observations! A good description of most of Sargent's works, especially his portraits. Thank you for your comment and your compliment.

  • I enjoy your videos tremendously. Again, thanks.

  • Thank you very much. I have been getting used to it not being cold outside! ( : It's an Ohio thing, when it finally gets nice outside you throw off the cabin fever and run amok. Grandchildren over every weekend, giving me the "Grammah Twitch". That kinda stuff. Thanx again! Always look forward to hearing from you.

  • I know what you mean....a Wisconsin boy....that's why I live in Dallas!

  • Outstanding!
