Yes, this is an amazing video of an amazing artist. I became very well acquainted with John Singer Sargent when doing research on the Gilded Age. His paintings are just the most beautiful & he was in great demand in his time & had to turn many people away. The music is a great complement to the video as well.
This is great, thanks for posting! FYI, the Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown is featuring an exhibit on John Singer Sargent: "Portraits in Praise of Women" now through Dec 31, 2010.
Magnifico Artista, eccelle nella figura, magistrale figurativo moderno, che sollievo, dopo tante brutture e mediocrità di improvvisati che annaspano e sgomitano con le loro algide e deprimenti installazioni!!
Chopin did not write a Nocturne for the left hand alone. This is the famous Scriabin Nocturne for Left hand alone. Other than that....great video. Sargent is my favorite painter.
Yes, the economy of his brushwork and his gift for deft accuracy without precision is almost peerless; I don't think any fellow painter could fail to be endlessly fascinated by his technique.
Singer was no doubt on of the greatest Portraitist of all time(probably 2nd only to that of Velázquez), but his real love was impressionism which he expressed through water colors near the end of his life. If you would like to see some of his work here in the states I would encourage you to visit the Boston public library, he was commissioned to paint quite a few halls and ceilings there (very impressive!).
that was lovely , but there is one painting i like , i dont know the name but its a girl holding a doggie in her arms , that painting is wonderful , i wonder if you had the picture somewhere?
The painting you speak of, is it in the video? Not sure which it is, can you give the time it shows up? Try doing a Google image search of Sargent and see if it shows up there. Let me know if you find it.
Ahhh that is why I did not use it, too small. Try websites that sell posters, reproductions of paintings or art history sites. Also you could try your local library. There you could maybe make a color copy from a book. I'm sorry I couldn't find it. Do you know the exact title of the work?
Wonderful video although a few of my favorite paintings were missing ;) I love his paintings of 'rosina' and his portrait of Lily Millet is my favorite.
Especially considering his close friendship with her husband and fellow artist Francis Davis Millet.
I would love to see a video of Francis D. Millet's work, he isn't as well known but his art was just as breathtaking and his life story is rather amazing
An American Velazquez. His work often embodies languor, indulgence and a brooding sort of calm. I think it is through his dramatic use of evocative light and atmospheric shadow that the figures seem caught in inner or personal revery. Great video. Thanks.
Thank you very much. I have been getting used to it not being cold outside! ( : It's an Ohio thing, when it finally gets nice outside you throw off the cabin fever and run amok. Grandchildren over every weekend, giving me the "Grammah Twitch". That kinda stuff. Thanx again! Always look forward to hearing from you.

My all-time favorite Sergeant painting is his portrait of Mrs. Edward L. Davis and her son, Livingston.
...Check it out, and see if you agree.

His brush stroke are so loose yet the painting is very realistic. Each brush placement is no accident. A virtuoso.
