I'm from Australia & we have the same problem with these so-called Greens parties who convinced themselves that steam power causes greenhouse warming. That's a lot of bulldust!! We operate steam only during the autunm & spring months with an average of 2 mainline runs per month. And, even though we did our best to reduce ash fallout & reduce boiler pressures to lengthen the life of our boilers, the Covernments now come up with public liability insurances thats put us out of buisness.
NO MORE STEAM ENGINES?!?!?!?! You've got to be kidding me. I saw the Grand Canyon train leave Williams last year so I guess this happened earlier this year.
It happened late this summer. Falling ridership and rising fuel costs forced the GCRy to put the 4960 and 29 in storage. Who knows if/when they will return to steam.
