He is great! I love his eccentricity and his voice! I respect Placido for his career but Franco Bonisolli is UNBILIEVALABLE when sangs espesialy Di quella pira! Franco was an El GRANDE BELOVED-MAD OPERA TENOR!!!
During a rehearsal of 'Trovatore" Franco got outraged at the conductor for taking the tempo to slow and stormed of the stage violently throwing his sword into the Orchestra pit.The Conductor was VonKaragan and he told Bonisolli not to return and replaced him with Domingo..Big Mistake! Bonisolli would have been much better temper and all.
@spyridon77 It was a rehearsal , i happened to be in the palace guard (the Chorus) and saw it 1st hand . I applauded Franco for walking out the conductor disliked Franco so much he made it impossible for Franco to sing and there-fore every-one was robbed , especially the paying public as Domingo was and never will be able to replace Franco. There was No recording of that incident
but you can get the Opera on Amazon.com with Bonisolli as Manrico.
Knowing Bonisolli's eccentricity, I am surprised that he did not bitch slap the person or persons who booed him! lol Didn't Corelli went after the audience when they heckled him? And later charged with assault (and later the charges were dropped), no? We need such excitement in opera! lol
Great Bonisolli moment--I think you might need just this kind of panache to withstand the immediate public evaluations of performance dished out in opera houses.
Certanly Bonisolli was affected by a discouraging immaturity that humiliates him as a person; but when great maestros were able to contain his narcisism ...what a voice! Pura luce!
priceless. He was really a crazy man. But every tenors had their stuff. Pavarotti was a Juventus fanatic. He would cancel a performance if Juventus was playing that night.
Bonisolli, Grande para lo bueno y Grande para lo malo.
Vaya testa di tenore, Bravo Bravo, eres el Mejor manrico

Indeed. People took Bonisolli for what he was. His eccentricity made the opera world so much more entertaining.
