@fartinthewind13 Hovering requires better than 1:1 power to weight ratio. So, if the thrust of the prop is greater than the weight of the airplane, it will hover and if it can then he can. :) In general, 3d airplanes do have better than 1.5:1 power:weight ratio so it has power to stop from a tail slide.

@redcorvettez06 If I put a power-25 size in my E-flite apprentice, upgrade the ESC and Li Po, then it will hover. Kinda hard to hover a Cessna though... I bet he could though!

@fartinthewind13 The only reason 3d planes have large control surface is so that prop wash (small force) will still affect the control surfaces. While Cessna doesn't have big control surfaces, so it will not exert much force on surfaces, it will still maintain hover as long as you do not deviate much from perfect balance. 3d airplanes will allow greater deviation so it will be easier to learn with. But, once you know how to hover, you can pretty much hover any airplane (except pusher).

Hi, I built mine today. I tested it hovering vertically and it wants to pivot clockwise? I put the batt on the right and pointed the motor down and to the right. Any Ideas why its doing this? Thanks

@ChappersSP Do you mean yaw (rudder direction) clockwise or roll (aileron direction)? Foamies are typically built with no thrust offset. BTW, where did you get yours? ThunderPower is no longer producing them and a club member wanted to build one. If it is yaw direction, make sure your fuselage is straight. It may have a tendency to balloon on one side of knife-edge. If it does, double check the SFG alignment.

@ChappersSP It is rolling to counter the torque of the motor. Hence it is called TorqueRoll. :) In order to hover, you must apply opposite aileron to stop the T-R. All airplanes will do that in hover.

What is your background as far as RC because you seem to know almost everything about aerobatic 3D flying fixed wing and Heli, were you ever a member of a factory team?

@BrushlessNitroSlayer He has done few indoor carpet sessions during cold winter month. He loves it but the typical indoor sessions are held well past his bedtime so he have not gone too many times.

He does play CoD and Racing games like Burnout.

I flew RC airplanes during early 80s but get back in just after Justin was born. I got hooked back big time and Justin spent weekends watching me fly with his mother. I always flew for fun. :)

@RCRacing88 I know that TP is no longer producing the Storm 3d kits. You can get DWFoamies 38" series for outdoors. Any 38" 6mm foam should do well outside.

I call it "Pelican Beak". It allows two things that conventional foamy can't. It will do knife-edge drop with very little forward flight due to extra lift from the nose. It also allows ground takeoff on short grass with a 10inch prop.

I just bought one of these. I am puting a neodyme motor in it. Why did you trim down the side force generators? Or did they just break off in a crash?

Too much side force generator will make the plane fly non conventionally. While rolling you do want to add elev and rudder like most airplanes. Experiment without it first and try it with SFG. Trimmed down version flew much more like a normal airplane. Use of around 700kv vs 900kv will allow even 730mah pack to give a good 8min flight. Our main pack is 910mah.

We started helis together at the same time.  I was ahead of him for the first 6 months then I had no hope of catching up. For airplanes, I held my own up until few months ago. Now, I don't think I can out fly him on airplanes either. He does about 15-30min on sim almost everyday. As for real RC flying, he has done 30min total in past 2 months due to cold. But in general, he will do about 30min-1hour of real flying per week.

He still has his Funtana 90 which he flew during his pre heli days when he was 3. :) He never flew it after he got into helis. There is a GP Cap 232 27% waiting to be finished also.
