The dance starts at 1:30, the first thing comes to my mind is this looks gay but I don't know why I like it. I'm not a Muslim so can I perform this dance in the public???
This ritual has very old ancient Turkic roots. Comes from the idea that one gets into a state of mind (OZLAŞMAK) and let his soul "pass" to the Gök Tanrı (Sky God) in a spinning sense. This was the belief in the requiems when the dead body is burned so that a good khan will be passed to the Sky God by changing it's form from body to soul (OZLAŞMAK). The same ritual can be seen in Maya civilization.
@palindrome06 There is a difference between doing koufr and being a kafir, doing koufr is like this mixxing culture with religion and saying its of the religion. Immitating old turkish tribe religions and creating it in the Islam is strictly Forbidden.
@kostakii1030 They are not immitating anything. This ritual existed before Islam. So Islam might have influenced by this ritual of ancient Turks. This ritual is originated from the ancient Turkic tradition of Fire Cult, not from Islam.
Aesthetically this is a beautiful dance. The effect of the slow circular whirling, the skirts floating gently all in unison, the hand movements and head tilt, is other worldly. It has a mesmerizing, hypnotic effect on the dervishes, but also on the viewer.
Religion aside, that has got to be difficult to do. never lifting the left leg, head tilted, hands up while turning for over 4 minutes! How do these guys not fall over or run into each other?! <8o
@theviewermonique They practice this dance from childhood. And a 4 minute dance is nothing, they can dance for a lot more time. There's a part in the brain that gives you the capability of controlling stability, that part of the brain disconnects during this dance and the body controls itself while the dancers fall in a very deep trance, some of them fall unconscious during this dance and they even have dreams. It's amazing.
Of the many Turning and "whirling" videos on YouTube, this is one of the best. These guys have excellent form (especially their arms --- UP, not horizontal) and their footwork is also very good.

Je
I am in awe at how beautiful this is.

@palindrome06 That makes it Shirk and koufr, cuz in Islam its strictly not allowed to immitate rituals from other beliefs.
kostakii1030 2 months ago
@kostakii1030 This doesn't mean they are koufr. This is cultural heredity. It shows that there were some interactions between the cultures.

@Rao665 Yes, especially when they descend like the clappers on you on a misty morning, playing their bagpipes and swinging their swords.

Con la mano derecha hacia Dios para alcanzar su amor.
Y la izquierda hacia la Tierra para transmitir ese amor a los hombres.
Hermosa manera de orar.
