Not that a break in sound was ever important. People in the North of Eire only really turned on the news to hear who had been killed. But if something really important happened like Gusty Spence dying, then obviously it's of great importance. This is Mark McFadden, Unionist Television, Londonderry.
I am actually impressed that UTV managed to put together a programme at all at such short notice. To get the autocues copied over, the reports transferred between servers and a second camera set up for the sport must have took some doing in 8 minutes. Granted technology has moved on since the 80s but I remember a similar thing happening at Tyne Tees in 88 and the whole bulletin was scrapped, replaced with a filler programme and the announcer putting out a very short bulletin without any reports.
Yes I agree with you there, I'm from Ulster and have had a few English ask where in Scotland I'm from!
We in the North have quite a hard "Pronounced" accent I guess if you compare it to the South.
The English have some wierd dialects to, I remember saying to one on the phone if he were from Manchester and got rather berated by an angry man saying no Blackpool! At that point he called me a Scot and we both hung up the phne!
That's really true! You probably thought that because the guy you spoke to was from the North East. It's quite an easy mistake to make really. I'm surprised he went crazy at you.
I worked for Abbey in my old job and quite a few people asked me if I was in the Belfast contact centre.
It would be quite easy for someone from Northern Ireland to put on a Glasgow accent and vice-versa.
The Glasgow and Ulster sense of humour is quite similar as well. We both know how to make bad situations funny.
Turn the sound up and listen closely, you can hear a faint purring noise in the background, this is also on other UTV videos, can anybody hear this on TV as well? Sounds like some of their equipment has been damaged for a while, or the videos were compressed that way, idk.

I know the woman is from Northern Ireland but her accent sounds very Scottish too. I'm from Glasgow so it's quite a similar accent to ours.

Was it the IRA who disrupted this video, or Loyalist Para-military groups? This is Ulster, after all.

Nothin' simple in Ulster lol they probably fought over the button. I want a press it, then ended up fighting over who wanted to fix it.
Am from Ulster btw, I have a dark sense of humour which will probably get me shot one of these days!

I love Lynda's look as she realises the sound has gone.
