Entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 on 10-09-1961, it peaked at No. 7 and spent 12 weeks in the Top 100...
On 03-15-1947 Ted Weems' version became #1 {for 12 weeks} and spent 16 weeks on Billboard's Best Sellers chart. This version was actually recorded in 1933, but didn't become a hit until Chicago DJ start airing it in 1947.
Also in 1947 Harry James releaed his version, it reached #8.
Other charted covered versions; Somethin; Smith & The Redheads {#71 in 1956} and Patsy Cline {#73 in 1962
Heartaches was written by John Klenner (music) and Al Hoffman (lyrics) in 1931. Just one more incredible example of a doo wop group covering a great American standard of popular music.
The guy who sang bass was incredible. Gotta say that I have never heard a better bass singer. The work he did on this particular song is without equal by any other bass singer. Oh, lest I forget to mention: I like "Heartaches" better than "Blue Moon." Just a personal preference.
@63filmbuff Col+Pix=Columbia Pictures. Their first hit, Blue Moon was recorded in a single take! I spent an hour with Stu Phillips last week - the producer who put the Marcels on the map 50 years ago this month. An amazing composer/arranger/conductor, he did the music for Battlestar Gallactica, Buck Rogers & Knight Rider & 12 albums as leader of Hollyridge Strings. go to his channel at bsgkr2000 & show Stu some love - he's earned it. We wouldn't have had Blue Moon without him !!! chuck
