best question, why is your video not exported in the correct format, being students of a production program shouldnt you know how to do this? i mean its not that i learned it in college STEP YOUR GAME UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@zulfikar74 because this was made 5 years ago and back in 2006 240p was the only format youtube used but now a days they would be able to upload it to hd format
One that is rated for it's weight. The tripod they had was for tiny handycam camcorders. We use a 5K$ manfrotto carbon fiber fluid head tripod with a spreader for our HVX 200.
Are we able to immediately see the level of depth of field (ex: shallow D.o.F.) on the LCD screen on the camera--or would it only show it after it's already finished recording?
So what exaclty is so special about a professional cameral like this? Tell me ALL the differences in why you or anyone should buy a professional camera for certain things and what extra features and specifications it has. Like why you need a P2 card for HD when you could just get a Fh1a Sanyo which records 1080p 60fps with a class6 sd card priced way lower and other stuff too. Thank you
@BBrtqB It all depends on what you use it for. I've produced a few narrative pilots and yes, I do need XLR inputs for wireless lav mics.
If you're shooting stuff like music videos or experimental stuff where you just use your own music, you wont need that kind of stuff. It's about your budget and preference.
I had a 7D for 3 weeks and sold it because it wasnt my cup of tea.
@cnguyen32 ok Thanks, i understand now and by the way, where exaclty can you get in the film industry with out going to say Hollywood, what kind of local jobs and a little extra income can it offer because im thinking of having a full time job and filming "something" in my spare time because i find editing and film "entertaining" any ideas?
@BBrtqB I started off doing wedding videography while in college. In our last semester, we were required to have 150 hrs of an internship. Luckily I landed one at NBC.
You can check craigslist or "crew" gigs too. a lot of people need PA's but a lot of times they dont pay. That is just part of the business. Once you really know what you're doing, you can start producing your own stuff and look for people to fund your project! Hope this helps.
@cnguyen32 Reading back through all the comments, I have to say I found your answers very concise, informative and not condescending, (which was what I expected when I saw the intial question). I even got something from it. Wish more people out there on the net were like you.
Haha, i like how you say, its better in hd.. when you didnt encode an hd video.. you see that black space? that means you had hd footage, and rendered it out to standard def format. so good job!
@shahidmexico so your saying that you didn't know how to use this stuff and by this video you know now and you are getting a job with it. Chances are that you might not get hired due to the fact that there is a lot more to video editing then you think things like programs that sometimes may cost more than your camera and more.
If someone dident know how to do any of this stuff, they should not be buying this camera!! It pisses me off when people buy a camera like this without knowing how to use it. Go out and buy a little canon vixia then work your way up, dont go right to a hvx, hmc, ect... work your way up untill you actually know how to use a camera like this. Not trying to be mean just gets me mad.
It saved my life this video, tomorrow I have a shooting and they told me we were going to use this camera, I just needed to locate this buttons, and know how to operate like real fast, I couldn't find the user guide on pdf, does anyone has it?, this video just saved my life
If someone buys an hvx200, they should already know or have some experience with these things. Im sorry but im really tired of people buying things they dont know how to use.
@namyrb I'll hate on whatever I want, especially school. The schools in Florida are fucking horrible, the teaching system sucks, and the administrators that are supposed to protect you are doing an even worse job.
That very well may be true (not that I've ever been to Florida)... but the point I was trying to make was that you were calling this guy out on something that he didn't do... and now the red herring...
@labivlor Your spelling is horrid. But yes it does make sense, if you're trying to learn things as you grow, you should start out with the simple and move your way up to the difficult.
@NickGoesR0aor You should check out the video of Rob Rodriguez using a new digital camera on the set of, "Mexico". He bascially say's we never seen a digital camera like this, and we are just figuring out on set. That's on a hollywood level, so i say go for it! Learn as you go...
@NickGoesR0aor So if someone decides to upgrade from a high end consumer camera or DSLR they should already know how to use a prosumer camera like an HVX? How exactly would you expect them to learn it? Through constant rentals?
@cnguyen32 I guess it does look unprofessional to someone who doesn't know anything about filming but to a filmer it does look professional. There have been a few movies shot with dslrs. Zebra stripes are for those who can't set their exposure. And you dont need the xlr outputs or the gain using the agc hack and if you don't know what that is the you need to gtfo. But if you really want to spend $1000+ dollars on a few features, then have a ball.
This type of advice is coming from someone who says "Filmer" come on now. Zebras are used by professionals. I'm sorry, its been that way for who knows how long. What FULL FEATURE has been shot with a dslr that has been on the big screen? Here at NBC, we only use DSLRs for BTS and B-roll.It has no sync gen so you cannot do live multicam.
Just stick to shooting skate videos. You don't have the knowledge to produce anything better.
@cnguyen32 and dont think im trolling about the hvx200. I have an hmc150 myself and I think its a great cam, but I think the 7d is amazing when your 15 years old and work at a horsestable making 18 dollars an hour.
@NickGoesR0aor What if someone is renting this camera? It could be the first prosumer/professional camera that you own. You have to start somewhere...
@NickGoesR0aor I know what you mean. I use this camera now and again and have always been into advanced photography - SLR photography. I know a fair amount about it. But this video is for a college to show the students how to use it.

@NickGoesR0aor I respectfully disagree in theory. You should know something about the basic principles of photography and lighting. If this is your first pro cam, then God bless you. Shoot every day and learn every aspect of the camera and you'll be better than more than half the herd out there with their RedEpic's. Also, only post your best stuff to the web.

@detroituntilidie Took an arrow to the knee almost a full year and a half before it was in vogue. Lol. Hope your shooting now as often as possible. Go Motor City!
Love this vid. I took the info you provided here, printed it out, laminated it, and attached it to my AG HVX200.
I really hope you can help with the following: When I take footage, I find that the phase lines (if that's what they are) are evident in the imported videos. They're particularly evident with subjects that are at an angle. Is this something that's evident when shot on Digital Tape and not a P2 card or is the camera not properly calibrated? Thanks in advance.
it shoots HD witch the vx2100 does not do but its bigger and heavier so if you skate around with your camera not drive from spot to spot it will suck. you have the option to use the century optics xtream fisheye witch you dont with the vx2_00. if your not shooting for like a great skate team it not worth it in my eye. the vx2_00 and vx1000 is still the skate industry standard. personally i would also go with a vx2000 over a vx2100 because the only major difference it there price.
The best camera is Sony DCR-VX1000, because the colors are tooo beautiful, and with a good handle on the cam you probaly a pro in filming, and for the fsiheye for a vx100 i would recommand Century Optics Mk1 Fisheye
both these cameras have good video quality. hvx would most likely be better. but it is alot heavyer/ but a vx2100 is realy good for skateboarding. i would recomend that
me too, the vx21 is one of best skateboarding cameras, if you want something cheaper or not too big but with the same quality i recomend the Sony trv900.
Switch both of your camera Channel selects to "Input 2", then attach your Sennheiser through the XLR Input 2 on the front of the camera. Turn on the Mic Power for Input 2, set your levels, and record.
PS: You probably already figured this out by now, but I hope it helped anyway.
the reason this isn't HD is that HD wasn't the standard for Youtube in 2006.
it was not until sometime in 2008 that Youtube started rolling out HD videos for users.
that's just 4 years ago. alot can change.

@BBrtqB
The HVX has 4:2:2 color space (google it)
XLR inputs
Variable / Interval Frame Rates
Shooting onto p2 means your footage will have more flexibility in post. it contains more color data, its less compressed.
24fps, cinema look.
ND Filters for outdoor field shooting
shuttler speed adjustable
custom w/b

They're particularly evident with subjects that are at an angle. Is this something that's evident when shot on Digital Tape and not a P2 card or is the camera not properly calibrated? Thanks in advance.

what a useless video, have you ever heard of an owners manual? And never use image stabilization it cuts your resolution.

Why are you guys arguing over whats better for skateboarding?
If I had an HVX I'd film with it just as much as my VX1000/mk1.

prakashdotcom 2 years ago
aye, is this better than the Sony VX2100?? I wanna use for skating, but is it good quality wise, user friendly, and just lightweight?
nickkbrowning 2 years ago
Befor you get into cameras like these bro you need to learn about your cams my freind.
it's far better than a 21 and its not as light as a 21
seanthegrate 2 years ago
get the vx21. HVX are more bulky and will cost more if you don't have enough RAM or space on your camera if anything get a hmc150 or hmc40

get a vx2000 bro. not a vx2100 or a HVX-200...
underoath3silver 2 years ago
it shoots HD witch the vx2100 does not do but its bigger and heavier so if you skate around with your camera not drive from spot to spot it will suck. you have the option to use the century optics xtream fisheye witch you dont with the vx2_00. if your not shooting for like a great skate team it not worth it in my eye. the vx2_00 and vx1000 is still the skate industry standard. personally i would also go with a vx2000 over a vx2100 because the only major difference it there price.
somerockenguy 2 years ago
The best camera is Sony DCR-VX1000, because the colors are tooo beautiful, and with a good handle on the cam you probaly a pro in filming, and for the fsiheye for a vx100 i would recommand Century Optics Mk1 Fisheye
Shadow1Runner 2 years ago
both these cameras have good video quality. hvx would most likely be better. but it is alot heavyer/ but a vx2100 is realy good for skateboarding. i would recomend that
snackeye12 2 years ago 2
me too, the vx21 is one of best skateboarding cameras, if you want something cheaper or not too big but with the same quality i recomend the Sony trv900.

How can I get both audio channels with my sennhiser on my HVX200 using channel one
av64491 2 years ago
Switch both of your camera Channel selects to "Input 2", then attach your Sennheiser through the XLR Input 2 on the front of the camera. Turn on the Mic Power for Input 2, set your levels, and record.
PS: You probably already figured this out by now, but I hope it helped anyway.
