  • Boyd Tinsley's dreads are SOOOOOO short!

  • te pasan por arriba!! IMPRESIONANTE

  • ohhhh man old vh1 brings back memories

  • I don't think there is a better version of this tune out there. The band is sharing themselves at a deep musical level,,,,totally the freaking best of musicians in the moment..

  • I love the way Dave and his band members preach this tune. it's my "Anthem" for the next year... Somebody please tell me: "Is that a saxophone, at 1:30 - 1:40 or so?

  • @thisux7x7 yeah, I think it's a soprano sax...

  • DMB at their finest!!!!

  • The beginning seems more like a jam session in someone's garage than a concert. Indication of a great band, that enjoys making music from the soul

  • 5:40 TO 5:44

  • Dave can dance lol

  • That violinist is killing it man (its a compliment)

And the drummer broke his right drumstick and replaced it quickly without breaking his rhythm now that's skill

  • yup, that jammy outro from like 5:10 until end pretty much defined DMB and made them what they are

  • this is when dave was dave.

  • This intro of Ants is the wildest ever.

  • dave has some sick dance moves

  • 0 dislikes. The way it's suppose to be.

  • 1:47 carter's fucking stick breaks.

    what a bad ass.

  • if boyd used anything other than his magic bow, he wouldn't have any bow left by the end of this song. ;)

  • Carter is my man but have you seen neil Pert (Rush) live? nuttn nice dude!

  • Amazing!!! Dave too young!!! I miss 90's !!! the best band around the world!!!

  • THEY ARE ON FIRE!!!

  • Gives me chills errrrytime ;) Have seen them every summer since 1999 most years more then once, 2011 will be such a lonnngg year , but they have earned some rest!!

  • @mandalinstarr are they not touring in 2011?????~?!?!?

  • @slgion They are taking 2011 off :( Well deserved though theyve been touring for like 20 years! haha Im sure 2012 will bring us a kick ass tour and an album :) It was announced before the 2010 tour even started , I hit extra dates this year for that reason! And they showed why they are one of the best touring bands ever because they extended the summer tour of '10 into a fall tour adding dates, they hit NYC again, Phila again and a few more one last time :)

  • @mandalinstarr they are planning 4 multi day multi artist events to celebrate 20 years

  • i was five years old and at this concert! ....no i wish though lol

  • Dave Matthews Band feat IVETE SANGALO in dallas

    youtube.com/watch?v=QEp7mlWM_c0

  • All comments below are true, but he's actually a convicted rapist.

  • no, keith moon by far

  • Carter is a Very Good drummer, but the best in the world........I don't think so. Neil Peart is the best and has been the best for the last 30+ years.

  • @dblamp1 Completely agree with you. Neil Peart is the best.

  • @dblamp1 First off, two completely different styles. Neil Peart will never be able to groove like Carter Beauford, he just doesn't those kinds of chops or that much feeling, but he may, or may not, be more technical than him. As a drummer, though, and having studied music and heard a ton of great drummers, I would say the best drummer in the world is either Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, or Dennis Chambers, based on their ability to do anything and everything on the drum set, and play any style.

  • Seriously, he is good no denying; but really... "Neil Peart"

  • DMB FOR LIFE!

  • it's weird seeing a vh1 logo on something related to music haha

  • Is that steve o singing???

  • is this one of the live trax?

  • This is how i wish Sexton still sounded like...IMHO...Drummers alike all liked his sound lighter and more crisp than heavier with more "body" on the snare. Sexton still rules but the overall popping snare, hi hat work, always has turned my head with a smile.

  • The Violin was out of tune this time, but is a good version a prefer Central Park one.

  • OHSA has declared the 50ft diameter zone around Carter Beauford a hard hat area

  • @dmbandvids Clever.

  • R.I.P. Le roy I worked at TRAX in c-ville when when this band got together, they where cool as hell.

  • This was around the time I became a fan... damn, 15 years ago. Can't believe it's been so long...

  • The best band of the world.

  • @joaomad Have u heard RUsh? fantastic percussion

  • @newjerseydev LED ZEP!!!

  • Ant's Marching is just one of the most incredible songs of all time, when it comes to the experience of live performances!

To listen to such a combination of instruments, being mashed up together.. it just reaches a higher level all-together, and gives an indescribable feeling!

And I remember when DMB was in Denmark.. The second the band went quiet, and let the crowd sing along, that exact moment was just priceless!

  • i remember watching this on tv so long ago. it was me and my older bro. except at the time this concert was on i was like 1 lol. but i remember it for some odd reason, they must have reshowed it sometime after, but anyways dave has always been in my life, even b4 i was born. and his music will stay in my life until the day i die

  • DMB has so many incredible songs and this isn't my particularly favorite DMB song but this might be one of the best "concert songs" of all time....;;love it!

  • love dmb. wish Boyd would play a note other than the 7 in whatever key he is in. accidentals homie... keeps it interesting

  • this drummer is very good. but neil peart has to be the best drummer in whe world by far. just sayin

  • Is this the first performance when the audience knew the 'people in every direction...' part? You see him kind of look up in shock when he gets to that part...

  • He's still playing this song almost every night. Timeless. Absolutely timeless

  • My dad has played drums for 30 years, and is not a Dave fan, but still says Carter is the best drummer that he has ever heard, so I have to agree with everyone.........

  • @ntualabama at 1:47 he is throwing away the old drumstick cause it was about to break anyway most likely.

  • 1:48...Oh Carter.

  • Hey he did this on the day i was born! lol

  • I wonder if Carter is a Bruins fan or if he just likes the Jersey?...lol.

  • @Slikrik1212 haha he always wears some sort of jersey wherever he is... i saw him in charlotte twice, and he was wearing a carolina hurricanes jersey both times.

  • The air hangs heavy with the smell of burnt cannibus;)

  • Bruins!

  • abc

  • At 0:47 Carter breaks hisstick, throws the stick back, and gets a new one without breaking the beat. Smooth.

  • At 1:47?

  • it's incredble ... what is rhythm and what is melody???

  • well ok, now I know! Always liked DMB, never really looked into it though (m'own damfault)...until now. Have viewed most Beauford vids I could find. Plays as well as Peart from Rush (sick!). Great drummer!!

  • The god that is Carter Beauford

  • What's name of the drummer here?

  • @rexxcarz are you serious? honestly? thats Carter Beauford the greatest to live!

  • Where is the version played on the radio? It's a live version (at least it sounds like it). I cannot seem to find it on the powerful YouTube....

  • @Cappadoccia04

no, they're live stuff is really different from the studio versions that you hear on the radio. This video has an introduction over 2 mins long that the studio version doesnt

  • does Boyd sound really flat at the beginning or am i just hearing thing?

  • he's definatly flat but he pulls it back

  • how can you NOT wanna dance while listening to this?

  • This is some high energy shit right here!

  • 5:08 chills!!!

  • The best version of Ants Marching is 1/30/95 - but this certainly is close

  • ah ha thats dope how carter gets a new stick

  • boyds violin is way off pitch ha

  • stefan was, and dave just kinda laughed. i wish i had a video

  • i love dave's eyebrow lift as he sings haha. good performance.

  • I love the style of the mid-90's

sigh, how i long for my coloured jeans

  • 1:47 Carter with the sticks lol

  • All the musicians seem to be having a great time.

Love the joy you can see in the drummer and violinist.

  • this is back when they realllyyy used to jam to this song... the long snare intros from95/95 (like on live at red rocks) are amazing

  • He's a complete badass...and he gets so excited everytime Boyd plays his solo.

  • You're right that was fucking awesome....I would have missed that hahaha!

  • DAMN!!! Boyd rocked out so hard his bow was breaking hahaha!!!

Anyone that says you can't rock out with a Violin is dead wrong.

  • boston bruins jersey!!!<3

    r.i.p. leroi

  • ebonics.

  • This is back when VH1 played music. lol

  • that's why he uses guitar tuners now

  • Man, I wonder how much his kit costed?

  • great song but the out of tune violin is killing it!!!

  • boyd tune that thing!!!

  • Yea Carter rockin the Bruins jersey

  • little did he know that 13 years later they would ROCK

  • true true

  • they jammed the hell out of that song...awsome

  • why does the fiddler always play an E the whole song when they do this live - it doesn't make sense!

  • carter beuford is sick as mess!!! his snare was tuned dirty for this too. i would do anything for his snare and bass drum.

  • carter is a absolute beast

  • Violin is fricken painful.

  • boyds violin sounds so bad

  • the bands always in such a good mood.

  • i love how they just LOVE to play, it doesnt seem like its about money or anything, just jammin, that why bands like rush stay together for 35 years, i wonder what they will do now tho w/o leroi, he is irreplaceable, i hope they keep playing tho

  • When i saw dave about a week ago, stefan's bass amp was accidently left off during the intro. he was pissed

  • R.I.P. LeRoi

  • one of the best versions i've heard..

    LeRoi=irreplacable

  • A young DMB here, who has ONLY gotten better & better over the years - that's NOT saying that they didn't sound good here because they sound AWESOME, it's just saying over time they've increased even more whereas some bands over time, lose a bit of that special "thing" that got them there in the

1st place, I believe there called 1 hit wonders? DMB, NO! There are almost to many DMB hits to count & though I'm going to miss Leroi like every other DMB fan he'll always be w/ them & w/ us - DMB fans

  • R.I.P Leroi

  • Rip Leroi

  • Maybe it was a bad drumstick.

  • yeah he broke it while hitting the snare, threw it up in the air on the off beat, and got another one out of his bag. without missing a beat. carter beauford...so hot right now

  • did he just throw a drumstick after the snare hit? 1:47-1:49?!

  • Awesome video, and Leroi looks like Prop Joe.

  • 2 words: CARTER BEAUFORD!!!!!

  • I 2nd that...

  • amen

  • love that bass

  • oooh, thats a fresh violin solo. Haven't heard anything like that from Boyd on Ants in a while.

  • nice go check out my drum cover of this same song....peace...

  • The version on Under the table and dreaming is my favourite version. And the central park version <3<3, and the one on best of what's around. I think that was in Sydney :) It's always good, I love Dmb.

  • I just got back from their concert at the Ddoge Music Center in Hartford, Ct, and it was the coolest version, even better than central park. It statred as just Dave playing and singing the first two verses acoustically, then the stage went black and the snare started. The solos were intense and it was just CRAZY!!!

  • wow this is amazing

  • Right you are! Carter is a monster on the drums, and he surely couldn't help that his drum got messed up, he should be glad it didn't get messed up in a faster part though :P

  • the band at its best

  • Lol at 1:47 carter breaks a stick

  • where is this?

  • best version

  • Imo, the best version is the one they had in Sydney, the one on Best of what's around vol1. But of course every Dmb version of ants marching is good as hell

  • god i love dave!!!!!!!!!

  • it's not the audio...it does sound like someone is out of tune a little

  • hahah i wonder if thats the first time the crowd sang "people in every direction"

  • haha, i love how he is surprised the crowd knows the words

  • sweetness
