I don't think there is a better version of this tune out there. The band is sharing themselves at a deep musical level,,,,totally the freaking best of musicians in the moment..
I love the way Dave and his band members preach this tune. it's my "Anthem" for the next year... Somebody please tell me: "Is that a saxophone, at 1:30 - 1:40 or so?
Gives me chills errrrytime ;) Have seen them every summer since 1999 most years more then once, 2011 will be such a lonnngg year , but they have earned some rest!!
@slgion They are taking 2011 off :( Well deserved though theyve been touring for like 20 years! haha Im sure 2012 will bring us a kick ass tour and an album :) It was announced before the 2010 tour even started , I hit extra dates this year for that reason! And they showed why they are one of the best touring bands ever because they extended the summer tour of '10 into a fall tour adding dates, they hit NYC again, Phila again and a few more one last time :)
Carter is a Very Good drummer, but the best in the world........I don't think so. Neil Peart is the best and has been the best for the last 30+ years.
@dblamp1 First off, two completely different styles. Neil Peart will never be able to groove like Carter Beauford, he just doesn't those kinds of chops or that much feeling, but he may, or may not, be more technical than him. As a drummer, though, and having studied music and heard a ton of great drummers, I would say the best drummer in the world is either Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, or Dennis Chambers, based on their ability to do anything and everything on the drum set, and play any style.
This is how i wish Sexton still sounded like...IMHO...Drummers alike all liked his sound lighter and more crisp than heavier with more "body" on the snare. Sexton still rules but the overall popping snare, hi hat work, always has turned my head with a smile.
Ant's Marching is just one of the most incredible songs of all time, when it comes to the experience of live performances!
To listen to such a combination of instruments, being mashed up together.. it just reaches a higher level all-together, and gives an indescribable feeling!
And I remember when DMB was in Denmark.. The second the band went quiet, and let the crowd sing along, that exact moment was just priceless!
i remember watching this on tv so long ago. it was me and my older bro. except at the time this concert was on i was like 1 lol. but i remember it for some odd reason, they must have reshowed it sometime after, but anyways dave has always been in my life, even b4 i was born. and his music will stay in my life until the day i die
DMB has so many incredible songs and this isn't my particularly favorite DMB song but this might be one of the best "concert songs" of all time....;;love it!
Is this the first performance when the audience knew the 'people in every direction...' part? You see him kind of look up in shock when he gets to that part...
My dad has played drums for 30 years, and is not a Dave fan, but still says Carter is the best drummer that he has ever heard, so I have to agree with everyone.........
@Slikrik1212 haha he always wears some sort of jersey wherever he is... i saw him in charlotte twice, and he was wearing a carolina hurricanes jersey both times.
well ok, now I know! Always liked DMB, never really looked into it though (m'own damfault)...until now. Have viewed most Beauford vids I could find. Plays as well as Peart from Rush (sick!). Great drummer!!
no, they're live stuff is really different from the studio versions that you hear on the radio. This video has an introduction over 2 mins long that the studio version doesnt
i love how they just LOVE to play, it doesnt seem like its about money or anything, just jammin, that why bands like rush stay together for 35 years, i wonder what they will do now tho w/o leroi, he is irreplaceable, i hope they keep playing tho
A young DMB here, who has ONLY gotten better & better over the years - that's NOT saying that they didn't sound good here because they sound AWESOME, it's just saying over time they've increased even more whereas some bands over time, lose a bit of that special "thing" that got them there in the
1st place, I believe there called 1 hit wonders? DMB, NO! There are almost to many DMB hits to count & though I'm going to miss Leroi like every other DMB fan he'll always be w/ them & w/ us - DMB fans
yeah he broke it while hitting the snare, threw it up in the air on the off beat, and got another one out of his bag. without missing a beat. carter beauford...so hot right now
The version on Under the table and dreaming is my favourite version. And the central park version <3<3, and the one on best of what's around. I think that was in Sydney :) It's always good, I love Dmb.
I just got back from their concert at the Ddoge Music Center in Hartford, Ct, and it was the coolest version, even better than central park.
