  • There are three programs I'm concerned about: Minecraft, LMMS, and Audacity. I can live with no other games and keeping it relatively music/picture/video free, as long as I can use the internet at an at least average speed and these three programs.

  • im thinking of getting one as a secondary pc, my main pc has a intel core i7-2600 a GTX560Ti 8 GB RAM and a 1TB HDD... just sayin...

  • can it run minecraft?

  • how do you install windows 7? is it free? (sorry im noob) or does it come with windows 7? what do you mean you can chose?

  • Nice..This looks like my next media player which I can connect to my 51" tv

  • zotac zbox is my fav nettop but im confused they have so many models so if anyone can tell me which is the better for multimedia for hdtv?

  • Yes, but can it run Crysis?

  • @IlhanK Stupid comment. This is a media player

  • will this play stepmania?

  • @illbedanged It should

  • @CatXFlame Netflix HD isn't too smooth since it uses Silverlight without GPU acceleration support. It won't be until Silverlight 5 is out of beta before Netflix will be smooth on it.

  • 3:53 if you thought that was hilariousssss

  • so this zbox can be used like a regular pc?

I am looking for a small computer. the smaller the better, major speed is of no concern as speed won't be needed.

  • That is such an awesome setup. I am looking to get one of these very soon.

  • NetTop or NetBook ??? Wich one is better ?

  • @HardstyleBLAZER Netbook is an affordable laptop with display, nettop is a affordable PC, they serve different purposes.

  • i installed ubuntu 10.10, then downloaded xbmc for linux.

playback is jumpy and i cant get any sound at all.

ive connected the zbox to my tv using an hdmi cable.

any ideas how to fix this???????

  • @ianthenut Please make sure you have GPU acceleration in the system. We typically use the XBMC Live (Dharma) installer as it supports the hardware right out of the box.

  • 1080p playback? hmmm, powerful machine then..

  • @Thsiscool HD video playback is handled by the GPU which is more efficient at 1080p decoding than the CPU

  • @ZOTACglobal I have installed Windows 7, and it lags on a 720P video.

It has 1GB of ram, is this because it is only 1 Gigabyte?

    Thanks.

  • @vancar6 What are you using to play files? Make sure your player takes advantage of GPU acceleration for smooth playback. We recommend using XBMC for media playback.

  • @vancar6 yes, your best bet is to run 2 GB instead, this will drastically improve your performance. The only time when 1 GB of ram made Windows run great was back around Windows 98 or so. XP is somewhat liveable with 1 GB, but Vista and 7 will be painfully slow with just 1 GB of ram to just run, not including trying to stream 720p video. even with GPU acceleration, 1 GB won't cut it.

  • Does it have to use a SSD?

  • @speedyeggbert2009 No, it uses any 2.5-inch SATA hard drive or SSD (laptop size)

  • Since it's a dual core and has an Nvidia Ion, it should be capable of running a wide variety of games, though not on the highest settings. This could be a great entry l evel system for people not really ready to sink their money into a full computer.

I wonder if it's possible to buy this with a version of Windows already installed.

  • @stbays We do not offer it with Windows preinstalled.

  • @ZOTACglobal

I wasn't aware you were actually part of the company that made these devices.

I have to wonder who this device is being marketed to.

Anyone with enough skill to install the hard drive and the OS would most likely go for a full desktop.

On the other hand, if someone were a casual user, this device, with the OS and everything pre-installed, would be perfect. Since you don't offer that, they wouldn't be able to use this.

  • @stbays The system has its purposes, not everyone wants a full-fledged desktop. Our ZBOX mini-PCs have been quite popular as home theater PCs and thin clients. They make great general purpose systems with HD playback capabilities while consuming very little energy. The HD-ID11 also runs XBMC Live with very little configuration as well.

We do offer mini-ITX platforms and graphics cards for those that want to build their own desktop system as well.

  • @ZOTACglobal

Not trying to be trouble some. I only wonder cause it seems like the product could hit a wider audience if they could buy it ready to use out of the box.

I'm wondering is this not an option because of some legal matter or is it a cost cutting issue?

  • @stbays We are a channel manufacturer for components, hence why we don't sell a complete system with Windows :). It is up to our retailers and distributors to configure the system as they see fit for their region.

  • @ZOTACglobal

Now that makes sense. Thanks for the information.

  • Is it possible to game on this or no? If it can what would be the playable+highest graphics can i play it at thanks!

  • @boosmart you can do light gaming at lower resolutions, lower detail settings. But as with all other Atom-powered system, you won't be able to have the same gaming experience as a desktop system with dedicated graphics and a more powerful CPU.

  • @ZOTACglobal Thanks and another question I game I usually play is Combat Arms. For minimum requirements Windows 2000+ Pentium 3 - 1GHz+ 256Mb RAM GeForce 2 MX Direct X Version 9.0C or later Requirements for Recommended Windows Xp+ Pentium 4 - 2.4GHz+ 512Mb RAM GeForce FX 5600 or better Direct X Version 9.0C or later
  • @boosmart It should have no troubles playing Combat Arms

  • Wow a card reader in the back! I thnk i'll look at the next candidate...

  • @CorrosionX3

You're mistaken. The card reader is in the front.

  • zaujaloměto mám otázku ten počítač nemá vlastní monitor nebo má ?

  • Linux rules

  • Okay, I just got my new HD-ID11 and it looks really nice. I have a problem though.. I have put in the right hardware, but when I start it up, I get the Zotac Z-box flash screen, and then the screen turns black with only a small underscore blinking in the left corner. I have no idea of how to get past this, to access the windows installation from my flashdrive. Any ideas? The Zotac support hasn't answered me yet..

  • @schaltzharder i have the same problem (i am booting from the SD card). it seems that from time-to-time ZBox resets the boot device to something else then the right one. in my case, usually a reboot helps.

  • @schaltzharder press F11 on bootup and select the SD card to boot it. The SD card should boot if its partitioned and formatted properly.

  • Thinking about buying this. All i want to is something i can do my work on, if i bought this would i be able to connect it to the back of my tv and use it straight away or would i need to buy other stuff like memory and hard drives to use it? And would i also need to buy these just to go on youtube? thanks

  • @ealesey455 You need to provide your own hard drive, memory and operating system.

  • @ealesey455 yes you will need to buy a hard drive and a ram Dimm for this PC to work there are pre-assembled versions if you need help finding a hard drive or RAM i know a cheep place to buy high quality tech for LOW prices

  • damn, these zboxes look really freaking attractive to me. I know that the acer revo r3610 is similar to it but I like the look of this one better and how easy it is to 'mod'. I know these aren't much for gaming computers but with 512MB from the ION that's not bad for an integrated chip. wish I had the money right about now as I've heard some good reviews on here about it, yours included.

  • I just picked a copy of this up and will be running it as a media player with XBMC.... i hope it lives up to the hype.

  • Works fine google earth with ubuntu?

  • @malolillo It should run Google Earth fine. It meets the recommended system requirements.

  • This PC is only for can, its a imposibble to play youtube with more then 5fps even in SD because PCIEx1 limitation between ION and NM10chipset. 6 monts after this product release they are not solve the problem yet, I try both 260.63 nvidia driver and bios upgrade but the same story, this PC is only for the junk, I waste 350$ :(

  • @radojko123 Have you updated your Adobe Flash Player to 10.1? The new NVIDIA driver release from July corrected the issue.

Many websites have confirmed the issue has been corrected and experienced smooth YouTube 1080p playback. We have not had any issues here either.

    What is your system configuration?

  • On the Zotac website it says you have a ZBOX with a CULV Pentium SU4100 and ION chipset yet I can't find any place that sells it nor any additional info on it. When will this ZBOXHD-ND21-U model be available for sale?

  • @shinigamiabarairenji The HD-ND21 is build-to-order at request from retailers. The HD-ND22 with the Celeron SU2300 dual-core will be available regularly though.

  • Comment removed

  • @ZOTACglobal Any idea when the HD-ND22 will be available?

  • Is it possible to run software like cubase to make music with this pc? And Is it possible to make HD video (720p video especially..) with the video editing software : Sony Vegas ?

Thanks for you answers ! :)

  • @ImMike1415 I would recommend a system with more processing power for HD video editing using Sony Vegas and audio editing with Cubase.

  • Okay I need a computer round about's £200 or less and I have a monitor and that but I would mainly use it for YouTube browsing, Video Editing, Video Uploading, Photo shopping, Facebook etc, and a slight bit of gaming. Will this be an ok comp?

  • anyone tried wow on this ?... i know the stats in general should be playable with 4 gb ram , 512 dedicated memory and a 1.6 GHz dual processor... but wondering how decent it is ... ?

  • @LJH08Ralith It plays WoW great, very smooth on high graphics

  • @MYsterYmarcus kk ty ! wanted to be sure ;-p

  • I bout an Asus EEEBox turned out to be the EB1006 not the later model but still it was to send audio via the hdmi and for nothing good i got it working, its now in pieces on the floor.

will i have problems with this ??? i own alot of Asus O!plays (one in each room) and they work flawlessly but ja the UI sucks which is why i wanted a Nettop to run XBMC on to to this... but not if i have to go thru the trouble again trying to get audio via the hdmi cable...

    let me know please

  • @FatPumPumLovah It requires a little of bit of tweaking to get audio working in XBMC Live. We are working to ensure the Dharma live CD will work with HDMI audio right out of the box.

  • Is there a fanless version of this setup?

If not, how do you rate the noise of this fan? I'm thinking of running this 24x7 to replace my NAS and I'd like to be extremely quiet. Is the Z-Box HD-ID11 what I need?

  • @jl0242 There is no fan-less version. If the GPU and CPU are just going to be idling all day, it should be extremely quiet. You can tweak the fan speeds to your liking.

  • Comment removed

  • so how much hd space does it have

  • Zotac is extremely hot at 90+ degree c even at idle.

this temperature design is very poor. Apparently zotac engineers are monkeys who know nothing about computer designs. Note the holes for cool air are directly above the fan, so there is no circulation inside the unit.

  • Can you boot XBMC fom USB-stick without an hdd.. If that work, i would buy it.

  • @Hertiebrother

I guess you can boot it up from a usb-stick with the XBMC live.

Have never tried it my self with XBMC, but I have used some live versions of linux.

You can ty it out from a regular pc before you order a ZBox

  • Now accept 1 x 4Gb SODIMM and have a better fan noise controler.

  • Supports XBMC ! Nice. smart idea.

I wonder how loud it is. The front is a bit ugly.

  • Is there one or two slots for RAM ? Looks like just one in this video, but on another video by zotactube (something like that) they install two sticks of Kingston RAM, one overlapping the other. I am thinking for getting one of these to run Linux but would want to install 4 Gigs of RAM..... a single 4 Gig stick is very expensive at the moment, but if there are two slots then 2x2 gigs is the way to go.

  • @jsp21c

The ZBOX HD-ID11 has one memory slot, the ZBOX HD-ND01 and HD-ND02 have two slots.

  • @ZOTACglobal

    witch one is better than?

  • @jsp21c

Apparently all the Pineview based boards will be single channel for system RAM. The controller is built into the die, and there's 512MB of RAM built-in for video, which accounts for the lack of dual channel.

  • and I hope you enjoyed ..... our video

  • i want it =)

  • @madebarriere looks like Logic Supply has it in stock!

  • The similarities between prefab-HTPC's and games consoles are starting to scare me, I prefer the PC format for their custimizability.

Lets hope they stay customizable =S
