Dionne problem is that she drifted off from music... I dont know why... kinda like Whitney did earlier last decade..... Clive was trying to make her go back into theh studio more in the late 80's to recent but with no luck.... she's been offered broadway shows a few times and turn them down. I think she's content with what she's acheieved and left her mark in music....

Her voice is very unique, you could pick it out of a crowd of several women. Her tone has always been quite unique. Again Whitney's version of the Star Spangled Banner is the STANDARD. When young artists are asked who influenced them singing the Star Spangled Banner they almost always answer "Whitney Houston." Aretha alway does justice to any song. Her interpretation of Nessun Dorma was the talk of the Grammys. It was stated that Aretha saved the Grammys. Her interpretation of that aria was spectacular, and the highlight of the whole show. I don't think Whitney would be able to compare to what Aretha did.

Not Aretha is the QUEEN! Nothing about Aretha is one dimensional. Now i could say that about Whitney because she never really went outside of her genre. Aretha is far more versatile singer than Whitney. Aretha has crossed more genres and has excelled in all. There is nothing that Aretha can't do in music. She is Lady Music. Aretha's voice is unquie, something Dionne's voice doesn't have and never did. It is average in comparison. And don't even talk about ego, Whitney has a big on too. Aretha is the most respected woman in music. She has changed the face of music with her influence.

The title of Queen of Soul is rightfully hers because no female did more for the genre than Aretha, but Aretha is more than just a soul/rnb artist. Aretha has sung rock, pop, jazz, blues, gospel, and even opera. There is nothing Aretha's genius can't do. She has a body of work that proves every single word.

Actually this song is a Dionne Warwick standard. if you listen well enough you can hear Whitney's Auntie Dionne in this rendition. BTW great singers are true entertainers who share the their audience. technical clarity and range aren't enough to entertain. Aretha is older w/ vocals worn out frm yrs of performances and lifestyle choices.So isWhitney, Natalie, Dionne and Chaka . Put anyone of 'em on a stage. you re entertained! So saying countless singers before Whitney were more vocally gifted than her (which I disagree with) is quite pointless, because Whitney is still going to go down as one of the greats in singing, and she should... When Whitney was in her prime (based on that generation and era), she was quite frankly in a league of her own. Whitney IS one of the greatest singers of all time!

Does there really need to be a massive online discussion over what singers are/were better than others? Whitney Houston has the voice of an angel, end of discussion. Whitney Houston (in her prime) was vocally untouchable, she was the one everyone was trying to measure up to in her generation (when it came to singing ability). Anyone with an ear for music should acknowledge Whitney Houston is an incredible singer. That is no way detracts from all the other fantastic singers like Arethea or whomever that should also be acknowledged. Aretha voice was an instrument as well. Whitney is amazing but Aretha use better. Aretha in her prime had far more range than Whitney. And would hit higher notes as Whitney would lower the key to her songs. And Patti is nothing but a hollering mess. Patti can't fuck with Aretha. Patti ain't a singer she is a screamer. its like someone is skinning a cat when patti labelle sings, she has a high range so she sounds like she has more range than anyone but she lacks a strong, or even a nice sounding lower register. and doesnt know how to sing at level 5 intensity its always all out blasting and most people, normal people not losers who think screaming is SANGING, just know her as an annoying screamer

My dear when Whitney sings an Aretha song, she doesn't at all make it her own. Nor can she compare to Aretha's interpretation. Now with Aretha, she gives it new light. Aretha make the song her own. Aretha alway does justice to any song. Her interpretation of Nessun Dorma was the talk of the Grammys. It was stated that Aretha saved the Grammys. Her interpretation of that aria was spectacular, and the highlight of the whole show. I don't think Whitney would be able to compare to what Aretha did.

Pavarotti didn't choose Whitney. He picked Aretha step in for him and she SAVED THE GRAMMYS with her spectacular, once in a lifetime performance. It was the talk of the night. Aretha wasn't trying to sing like a Opera singr, she isn't a Opera singer but what she is, is the Greatest Singer Of All. She had the ability to sing anything. Not Aretha is the QUEEN! Nothing about Aretha is one dimensional. Now i could say that about Whitney because she never really went outside of her genre. Aretha is far more versatile singer than Whitney. Aretha has crossed more genres and has excelled in all. There is nothing that Aretha can't do in music. She is Lady Music.
