Its a Shift light. Its purpose is to blink when to shift for optimal performance. On a Automatic, it is useless since it's meant to signal driver when to shift. Its relationship to the tachometer is nothing more than it measures RPMs. You can change it's settings to any RPM, depending on drivers preference. Depending on how to computer is programmed, the redline limiter can be unaltered, adjusted or off. Its generally adjusted, as off can pose engine blowout.
soooo coool... i drive an e36 m3 now and am trading her in but cant quite afford one of these... maybe a used e92 performance spec'd out in my future though :]

@H3Ad5hOt22 Shows how much you know of the car and its transmission I guess. You can set it to Manual and shift up/down on the steering wheel.

Nice but, just another toy with lights. It does seem distracting. Probably looks nice at night.

wuts the point for the steering wheel rev light wen u have automatic and if u use triptronic dont it shift by its self if u go over max rpms?
turchio12 2 years ago
Thats a M3 with DCT. That will not shift automatic when it hits max rev.

why the hell does it say you are redlining on the wheel when you aren't even close...?
justinleitch1 2 years ago
its because hes stationary, 4000rpm is the optimal performance for launching the car off the line :)

YES!

maybe it's a safety system of a car, so people don't actually redline the car to showcase the wheel when in neutral.

looks cool but maybe lil distracting?

hehe, it not that bad at all... just the camera making it look hard... its very clear though...
but then again... what if you turn your wheel while you looking at it :O

Defaults to 8400 rpm.
RPM is set free.
SENNA335i 3 years ago
Sorry but the new steering wheel is no damn good if it starts to tell you to shift at 4000 rpm when the car can do 8400 !!
That´s a bad joke..
