@WELLGURU I BEG TO DIFEER, IT WORKS GREAT IN MY 80 YR OLD FARM HOUSE WITH A WELL FULL OF THE HARDEST WATER U CAN FIND. MY PRESSURE HAS INCREASED, THE STAINS ARE NOT COMMING BACK ON MY BRAND NEW SINKS OR NEW TOILETS. IT WORKS GREAT AND I NEVER HAVE TO DO ANY MAINT. MAYBE U SHOULD RE-EDUCATE YOURSELF ON THIS TYPE OF WATER TREATMENT AND HOW IT WORKS.
I got this last week. Since it doesn't work like a salt-based system, it doesn't act like one. For my family this is perfect. We used to put on lotion after a bath for dry skin, use lots of jet-dry in the dishwasher, and lots of shampoo to get a lather. Now our skin doesn't feel dry, but it doesn't feel slimy either like a salt-based softener. Water spots on our dishes have COMPLETELY disappeared after the first wash! I highly recommend it. Perfect balance between slimy and squeaky clean!
Good news texashoncho. You are half right: A chemical "study" will show the same amount of minerals coming out thru your tap. The technology does not claim to remove the minerals, however, it does put the dissolved minerals in SUSPENSION preventing them from scaling up your pipes and water heater. Additionally, the treated water REMOVES pre existing scale thus saving energy by keeping your water heater scale free. Made under Scalewatcher patent, with over 1/2 a million systems in 40 countries.
I think this does not remove dissolved solids, as it does not change the tds. It changes the charge of undissolved solids, and keeps them from sticking to the pipes. I don't have one but am looking into getting one.
I have been using the Small Wonder for over a year on my 2600 sq ft house in Scotts Valley Ca. Its amazing how much difference it makes in my water quality (there is a large swimming pool on the property and this device really contributes to the clarity of the water. Hi, I own a Small Wonder and my heating bill has made a noticable drop. Not only that but my skin feels softer and my dishes are cleaner. I highly recommend this for any home!
I took the leap of faith, and bought one of these. I was so happy with it, I had to go back and buy another for my print shop. If Scotchbrites, and razor blades are your tools to clean the scale, you got to check into one of these. My home unit is paying for it self, just from the savings on dishwasher treatments, to keep the lime scale in check.

I don't believe this has any effect on the water.
