A pure champion interpretation of this song. No disregard or disrespect meant to Shane McG, but when Christy got his hands on this it's up there, and right up there as one of my all-time favourite Christy M renditions.
HAIL HAIL THE FOLKLORE IS, HERE' S TO, THE BOY'S GRAND MOTHER, THE MOTHER OF HIS DAD, AND TO THE GRAND-DAD OF HIS MOTHER, .RESPECT TO YOUR CARING, CONSIDERATE AND WISE OLDER GRANDPARENTS. RESPECT IN THE GENETIC LINES WILL OVERTHROW BLATANT CAPITALISM. (IN THE CELTIC NATIONS)GOD BLESS THE CHILD. AND PEOPLE WILL UNITE AGAINST ALPHA MALE AND FEMALE CORRUPTION IN SOCIETY, THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MISSIONS, WITH THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECOSYSTEMS.I LOVE THE POGUES AND MANY OTHERS ARE SAILING.
This is one real gem - I think from the Unfinished Revolution LP/tape. Personally I feel Shane NEVER did his own song justice but when Christy took it and recorded this; it's a classic and one great song. So true to life.
my favorite song of all times. shanes poetic ability to introduce war drama into a love song is so heart wrenching. the C Moore version has grown on me but shane (god bless him) does it best.
@Biverix Ummmm....while I totally agree that this is a great, great song, the idea of it being a love song kind of confuses me. It's a song about the horrible after-effects of war. Still...it's a fantastic song...whatever works for ya, I guess.
Just an interpretation of the lyric with what I consider to be striking and appropriate images, using the Ulead software to roll them along with the songs tempo.
HAHAHAHA....classic txt man!! fair play. Don't worry buddy you'll get over her. i used to date this polish girl two years ago who had brown eyes and a body to die for. fuckin model.
Anyways, she let me go but i met 'the one' a month after, still going strong.
I think it's a testament to Shane's song writing ability that his music can sound great whether it be with his raw edge or by someone a little more polished like Christy.

Christy, you're a great man, but you've ruined this song. It needs a much more raw edge and the passion bringing to it that you've had before. It's not the gentle ballad you make it into here.
Its about a man who goes off to war and has a woman (with brown eyes) waiting for him back home. He goes through the war, and all the horrors of it, but when he gets back he finds out she didn't wait for him at all. The main character spends the rest of his life, wandering, and drinking away his miseries, always hoping to find her again, but never does. Damn sad song :(
A pure champion interpretation of this song. No disregard or disrespect meant to Shane McG, but when Christy got his hands on this it's up there, and right up there as one of my all-time favourite Christy M renditions.
It's on (I think!) the Unfinished Revolution CD.
