  • this is one of those songs that just makes me feel weird and alone and depressed! haha but still a classic.

  • Reminds me of a little village where the war effort closed the town and forced the evacuation of the inhabitants.

When the villagers left they left a note about being kind to this special place.

They we're never allowed to return and it sits abandoned but not forgotten.

Every year the families of the former villagers visit the site for church but they will never call it home ever again.

Sad that someplace so special is just left to fall into ruin.

  • 36 people walk in fields of coal

  • cool, sting

  • Love this song. Such a classic. It will never grow old:)

  • the fields of barley. World War one, France. Or did none of you get this?

  • @katrienify Because barley fields are only in France? Or grown during WWI? I think you're stretching a song with general significance to fit very specific imagery... And the video has cars in the "past" sequences of golden times.

  • 0:51 - 0:54 Wonnym Filcem Wali!

  • separate and back is so sad:( i belive i come back 2 some one but i tried 2 love last forever always:(

  • We'll forget the sun in its jealous sky as we lie in fields of gold........its beautiful

  • wonnym filcem wali

  • love it

  • reminds me of my high school years since this song released in 1993. :)

  • memories.

  • Every time I hear this song, I think about Scrantonicity

  • such a lovely song.

  • last summer i was listening to this song a ton.... i happen to get in my first car that my father bought for me (03 Crown Vic) while fooling around with the radio this song happened to be the first song i heard in the car :) so the song means even more to me now. it was weird too considering i had been killing it on repeat prior to that anyway.

  • this reminds me of my schools marching show this year. wut.

  • family guy lol

  • @MariposaGirl1981 ... happiness & sorrow go hand in hand within romance. this music resonates in different ways to different people ... keep that in mind

  • I love this song so much it hurts. A love shared between two people so beautiful and rich that the heavens envy it.

(You forget the sun, in his jealous sky)

  • wonderful song....

  • 34 people have never known true love

  • this shall be played at my fueneral

  • @mrjoew8 It'll be played at my Dad's funeral too. It fits, you know?

  • Just beautiful. When I die, this must be playing in my funeral.

  • i'd play this song if i'm with my lover :')

  • what did he say ? does anyone know what he is saying

  • @dman24ist you'll remember me when the west wind moves...

    duh. o_o

  • great song

  • GRANDE STINGGGGGGGGG

  • Immortal song!

  • Beautiful! The first time i heard this song i was pretty little, and i remember the melody made me feel warm and happy but so sad at the same time-even more so now that i know the words. I've thought about the meaning of it before, and i wonder if the end of the song isn't talking about the man's death...? I love that the song is kinda vague enough so you can interpret it how you want. Anyway, it never fails to put a smile on my face and a tear in my eye:)

  • I love sting!....I been listen to this guy since Im a baby!!

  • wow..wow..wow...El master hacia mas de una decada..ke no escuchaba sus rolas,,pero me taen recuerdos de mis añitos jovenes...snif..snif¡¡¡snif..para el principe ke no aparece....

  • Murmured in childhood without meaningless words. Thanks Sting for the beautiful Love Song.

  • til we meet again mimi!

  • well 240p, we meet again.

  • i agree with many of your comments about how it's like sad but happy at the same time, very emotional song for me but I don't know why. It has nothing to do with lost loved ones or anything like that, it just is. Maybe its reminder of me being little and its lyrics and just awesomely sad/happy music is it.

  • @zeppelinplant I agree with you. The song do sounds better when Sting sings it. I found out that Eva Cassidy's was the original Artist of that song. She was admitted to John Hopkins hospital. To my knowledge she wrote that song in the hospital where she later died November 2, 1996 at the age of 33. If anyone like they can read it on youtube. The story of Eva Cassidy. It is a very beautiful song though.

  • @af7079 Sting wrote it, and released it in 93', but i didn't say anything about her version anyway lol

  • It makes my heart ache, but it doesn't make me sad. It's indescribable.

  • damn i can't go back in time =( thanks god for music

  • whenever i hear this song it gives me chills as i remember dancing around the living room when i was little with my dad..i miss it..

  • @yamahonkawazuki ... sorrow within happiness if that makes any sense to you. that's why it's special. it's one of those songs ... that when i hear it start to play in a store .. i move away from the noisy people and move to the where the sound is coming from so i can only hear it & nothing else.

  • yes, there still are genius among us!

  • The year of 2011 (this year) where the first time i heard this song, i don't know when or how but i ♥ it :D

  • Love this song.

reminds me of my middle school days.

  • Une de mais chanson preferer de sting, du best of !

    Je l aver achteer,mon premier, ver 1995

  • I'll never grow tired of this one. Tis the closest thing to a soundtrack of my life that there is. Somehow it was appropriate when my wife and I were a young couple, appropriate for the year that we were separated, and appropriate now that we've gotten back together and continued building a life together. There is very little else that can compare with that.

  • @trappedunderacat what about the song sway by bic runga well its not so much as appropriat but at least its close

  • No other person/band can make the video like that.... perfectly suited with beats and lyrics.....

  • I remember when this song came out. It played all the time, just before my friend was leaving for Japan in Marines. Sad, but happy times. The song stayed w.me and always takes me back to that time. Good memories w.it.

  • las canciones que hoy en dia se hacen famosas ya no son como estas!! increible cancion! Solo tengo 21 años pero se apreciar que esta musica era la mejor!

  • You know, I think this song should have been put on that one CD 'Pure Moods' because I instantly get put into a relaxing mood right from the opening chords from all of the insturments.

  • @Enix2738 Totally agree, similar to the feeling I get listening to Robert Plant's song "Big Log"

  • @WalkerBros4Ever YES INDEED. both of these two songs are on my short list . burning my own moods type cd. just stuff that mellows me out

  • I do not want to overdo it in saying this, but it's true, when I listened to this song, I felt calm and peaceful, the soft tones of this song brings me like was in heaven...oh God...this is Beautiful Song !!!

  • @figorrahman i agree. its audible prozac :). get all relaxed and just tune into everything. and its at ease

  • Sting did this song better than anyone else.

  • hmm very nice :D

  • The best line must be:

"But I swear in the days still left We'll walk in the fields of gold".

  • 33 people don't know the colour of barley.

  • Last Year,

I won four tickets to Sting in concert.

I always thought Sting and The Police were boring (Wait with thumps down).

I gave the tickets to friends to go to the concert.

A week after that i was on vacation in Berlin (A week after the concert).

In Berlin they have a MTV with older music.

    This video was on...

And now after this all... I hate myself for giving those tickets away.

(Sorry for my bad english, i'm dutch)

  • @studioflip yea your english is shit.

  • @andytheweb Well, its better than those translate machines.

  • @studioflip I'm only kidden ya ;)

  • @andytheweb Ahh, that's okay

  • @studioflip As long as you learn something from this experience, you are on your way to becoming wiser.

And who knows...perhaps, you might get another chance at something like this?

Best wishes for the future in whatever you do and whatever choices you make.

    D.M. >:o)

  • @studioflip Perhaps you will get another chance to see him in the future. As for your English, no worries there, I am sure I will take shit from my fellow Yankees but sadly, very sadly undeniably your English is much better than many of the natives here in the States. I have seen much egregious, atrocious misuse of grammar and spelling in internet comments written by my fellow Americans and it is only getting worse. It is indeed a truly sad state of affairs and does make us look intelligent.

  • @studioflip Your English is fine :) Sorry you missed out on seeing Sting live, I have never seen him perform live either.

  • @studioflip yeah its a bitch Eh? didnt that just make you go " aww shiite. shouldnt have done that. should have held onto at least one for myself" ive been there.

  • @studioflip hehe then buy them?

  • @studioflip my friend, regrets Eh? dont apologise for your what you call bad english. its better than many british or american or canadians english.

  • @studioflip Hey, man. You're English is solid. No need to apologize.

  • @studioflip Your english is fine, and yes, this song is one of the best songs of all time in my opinion. I would never turn down a chance at it.

  • @studioflip Das pech zeg.

  • sting

  • way love this song and its interesting how you can see people and stuff happing in side the gold sluet of him

  • @KKamy123 would ve in a field of gold with me

  • song is really good, i got this song from my dad when he played it a million times lol

    like father like son >.<

  • Quite possibly one of the most charming and mesmerizing pieces ever made ... and this video captures the peacefulness and beauty of the melody. GREAT STUFF !

  • Although it was released in 1993 you know this is the last 1980s song.

  • @BouncePounce

This song sounds completely 90s to me. Still, it might be my favorite song of that decade.

  • Beautiful Song ! I Love <3 :)

  • STING 4 EVER!

  • Just recently got back from Cyprus. The sun was setting over the sea, with the mild and calm sea breeze with fantastic colours in the sky and on the other side was the mountains. I heard this track being played from a Hotel and it was just so perfect. Also brings memories of someone I met over there... Need I say anymore?

  • I very like this song it is my dream to live in the fields of gold. Will you stay with me,Will you be my love among the fields of barley. We,ll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we lie in the fields of gold

  • I used to sit in the car with my father with this song on the stereo. It was one of his favourite tracks. He passed away 5 months ago at age 54. This was played at his funeral and I can't listen to this song without shedding tears.

  • @Enruju Sorry to hear that, it is a beautiful song... I would like someone to play this when I die.

  • I am having this played at my funeral. It is just such a beautiful and powerful song set in chronological order; partnership, marriage, watching your children grow up and eventual old age/passing away. Life. Sting is undoubtedly one of the best musical artists of the 20th century.

  • this is my parents wedding dance

  • Would 1:49 to 2:05 be considered the "bridge" of the song?

  • @conker206 I believe so, yes.

  • I think this song is about reincarnation, so all you out there who had it played at a funereal, remember, if it helps your grief, that your loved ones could be walking beside you now, and if not yet, you will walk again with them, in your next life.

  • it sounds like a couple, who suffered a lot, finally gets the chance to walk away from the crowd for a bit, loving and calm.

  • Family Guy brought me here.

  • i hope u know its fields of volley not barley hhahaahaha

  • better than 85% of today's music and yet only 1.3million views...

  • @fennaru 85 % he says. Today's music? This stuff is better then 100 % of it.
