OK, here's the deal: Im a drummer noob, trying to learn via instructive videos from all over youtube. I've got one thing I wanna say to every1 who has a video, or plan to make one: YOU. ARE. PLAYING. TOO. FAST. I know, I know, you guys who allready know how to play dont see it that way. But believe me, us noobs do.
@stormshadow2k Understand your disapointment but, all you have to know is that no videos are going to help you out...I mean there are a lot of good stuff and a lot of great drummers to look at, but if you want to learn properly all you have to do is to get a good teacher, good books spend good money and time and on top of all be really patient! ;) Keep it up dude, and welcome home!
You haven´t explained that the second hit comes from the bounce on the drum, you don´t do that with your hands. If you really strike the 2nd one it´s no benefit compared to single strokes. Enter "Drum Lesson 3 (Double Stroke Rolls)"
into Youtube and click on the fisrt video. This guy is a bit funny but explains it in great detail
I would bounce them bro. i took learned both way but i did the bouncing first it help out with all other rudiments too. I think you mean pitch catch like the moller method that tough to master trust me. it more like a push pull techinque an works better with faster tempos so your wrists dont get lazy how i think of it. but the moller is like a double stroke if you wana think of it like that. you push the stick that one stroke an when u pull its a 2nd stroke think of it like that. Hope this help
I'm just working on my doubles and the problem with this lesson is it's ment for the beginner and the double is more complex than just fast double bounces.
What he failed to show is you have to start very slow using your wrists and fingers to get two seperate nice even double strokes without using the rebound and then gradually speed up. It's that transition point where you go from seperate strokes to using the rebound that's the hard part.
The best way to learn doubles and I found this worked for me and my lil neice. You can start of slow but if you want to try faster, after the first stroke lossen your fingers up just enough to where it feels like your sticks might fall but they wont if you do it right and never try to force it either or you'll end up with a sprang wrist.
I believe people on youtube have been saying its a Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage Drum Set with Sabian HHX symbols (know this from obviously seeing in the video). Could be wrong bout drums, but looks like it.
Hey, if there any begginers out there and want speed, you can build your speed up buy trying to go fast on a snare, or practice hitting ur sticks on a bed since theres no bounce, and your wrists pick up stronger
Corny fill he made out of that.

If you watch the video at the actual site it gives you sheet music and instructions.
(They also teach you how to read notation if you didn't know how to already)

I wish this guy would add a 4th section on his video for rolls / fills: Playing em reeeeaally slow. Like at 0:51 I have a hard time keeping up

Drums are:
Low Tom, High Tom, Snare, High Tom, Mid. Tom, High Tom, *Snare*
All done in doubles - Highs are always on your left hand and the *snare* is a single accent at the end to finish. Hope that helps you :o)
Unless you are just saying he plays them too fast! XD

Double stroke roll is very easy, but doing it RIGHT.. ie, consistently, so it sounds fluid -- can be pretty hard. :)

damn thats hards. Im a beginner.
How do you get it going so fast?
thehelmsman69 4 years ago 2
try just moving your wrist up and down, not your arm or forearm
metalcore1129 4 years ago
Loosen the wrists, and what the other guy said, Move the wrist not the arm. It will just come to you in time, just stay with it.
