"Desperate measures". This seems to be very good even though it is from an American prespective. I am from Canada. Even though he died a warrior he has given us peace through friendship.
I am told I am a desendant of Tecumseh. My Grandmother was related to Babel W. Shirrell born 1835. I Lawrence Co. Indiana. Married and they had Sherman William Tecumseh or Shirrell. birth. Sept. 20 1866 in Shoals, Ind. Died in Hoquiam Wa. 1936. down the line there is a Loumisa Dell Lufcy. My Great grandfather was a half bread named. William Tecumseh Shirrell . They moved to Hoquiam Wa. where he became chief of police.
@obcanobe1 - I am related to Naoquageshic or Chief noon-day(anishanabe)who faught along side Tecumseh... and in the battle that claimed Tecumsehs life noon-day had pulled his body off the battlefeild, these people were never romanticized like the plains people, which to me makes them even more the heroes they were and still are.
@jswitze Thanks for watching the video. All the information about Fort Meigs we got from actually visiting the Fort and from their museum, so if the information is "wrong" it is an issue for the museum. Thanks!
Some of the information here isn't quite on the mark, but I don't blame you because it's hard to sort the right from the wrong outside the family. FYI, the Prophet's name is said: Ten-squat-a-wah. It isn't that Tecumseh divided the Indian people; some were too stubborn to see the danger of the whites while some like the Cherokee lived a lifestyle more similar to the Americans. Some illusioned the Americans would be peaceful (still do) and were wrong. *The Alliance treaties are still in place
ps: the two factions. the open minded Tecumseh. and the more conservative Tanskwatawa....................its like this, Tecumseh said "sure! get some metal pots for the women"..............Tanskwatawa said,"No! the women will cook the old way! we want nothing from these yankees".
Manifest Destiny was a mix of simple adventurism, an avaricious desire for other peoples lands, and a Zionistic type of religious fanaticism causing many of the poorly educated settlers to actually think God had promised them the lands in the west! i guess God forgot to mention those lands were already occupied!!.......Long Live Crazy Horse!! :D
Typically the British are portrayed in American history as cowards and cheats. The British honoured their treaties better than the americans and Tecumseh is honoured in Canada as a hero. The story of the HMS Nancy's crew tells the true story of the courage of the British soldiers if you can find it.
Please help us to correct the enunciation of his osiyatho or name as it is said with Shiwanwetewe a t and d blended to together combined with his umsoma or clan phraitie of "kumsi" from the Skutewithawe or water turtle, or as Dekumsi or Tecumsey.
"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people...Show respect to all people and grovel to none."
this is a good video, and you have some really good information. I do not know where the "experts" you spoke to attained their info however. As a member of the Loyal Shawnee tribe we have always acknowledged the Loyal to be those who fought with Tecumseh, remaining loyal to the people or as some put loyal to the British. In Oklahoma, where most all of the Shawnee I have ever known live both the absentee and the loyal have acknowledged this as a fact. I would be interested to talk to you.

@agricola Canadian identity goes back to 1557. National independence has nothing to do with identity.

In psychology this religious fanaticism is called self fulfilling prophesy. Travesty awaits Christianity and Middle-Easter religion.
