The Gibsons are great guitars, but the LectraSlide is a specialized tool. Of course, the craftsman matters more than the tool, and Joe is a superb craftsman.

see him live, he's the best, puts real feeling into everything, some musicians play great but don't connect to the audience like he does, some are too cool for their own good, joe's puts himself out there.
The best blues guitarist of the NOW genration..He is better than Kenny Wayne, Derek Trucks and Johnny Lang hey don't get me wrong all these young KATS are Virtuoso's in their own Right ....but hey there is something about Joe B. that only that the blues feeling he puts out ,is like a tasety morsel, but its a meal from the PAST straight to the HEART...
Joe is a great player who has been influenced by other great players. On this tune especially later I hear Johnny Winters big time. The metal slide on humbuckers adds to that impression. Also the speed and clarity. Really great playing. Emotional and colorful.
I guess Clapton, Beck and Mayer suck at the Blues then! Joe is on the verge of becoming a household name. A little more touring, which he is currently doing and he will leave his mark.
Just think, at 2:55, the song really gets going, most pop songs would be almost finished by then. Just shows Joe is not afraid to build things up with a long song. Not bad eh?
Joe is so good, it'd be nice to see him break out into the mainstream. As a genre, blues is kind of a niche market (even though it's the root of all popular music), and it's evolution the last decade or so has pretty much revolved around guys like Joe playing cooler licks, but otherwise not growing as a sound. I'd love to see Joe and others like him take their songwriting and playing talents in new directions. Keep one foot in the blues, but reach up and out for new sounds.

Blues aint from "black" and it aint from "white". Blues comes from the soul and heart and Joe Bonamassa has both. And I think he loves his music enough that he isnt concerned with charts. He knows personal satisfaction sometimes out weighs corperate greed. I personally think he is going to be ranked among the finest blues players and guitarists, at least he should be but I think he needs a few more years to stand him along side B.B. King. Great talent still needs longevity to reach that pinnacle
The problem too many of these guitars prodigies have is they can't write a memorable song. If you don't have a song the grabs people, you are doomed to obscurity.

Joe's music grabs me. Hell, it grabs a lot of people with any sort of ear for blues music. I'm guessing that's good enough for Joe
John Mayer played his cards perfectly. He writes some pop songs that sell his albums and let him play the big venues. But there's more on his albums than just pop songs, and at his concerts he plays more than just pop songs. He also gets to do the blues and rock stuff he loves. But for more money and a bigger audience. I still say the thing that separates the greats from the mere prodigies is songs. Clapton, Page, Hendrix, etc -- they all had great songs that grabbed people.
Not so much Johnny Winter, but, at least on this tune, John Lee Hooker.
As for the comparison with Vai, guitar isn't an athletic contest and who you like is more dependent on your sensibility than the technique being used. I love Steve more only because he is a phenomenal player and one of the nicest and most grounded musicians I have ever talked to. But Joe smokes, too. Check out the Bloodline records. Great stuff.

vai im sure as more knowledge of scales and technique and odd timings but i doubt he can play blues like joe. they are just too different to compare. its usually not wise to compare musicians at this level of playing because its all just different, not better or worse.
I'm a big JB/Gov't Mule fan but must admit I Love Buckethead/death cube K's Soothsayer,I'm not into shredd,but he stops just in time,it's still melodic music.
Joe is great as well here, as live. I had the time of my life, watching him live in Copenhagen 2008. Guys like him will keep the blues alive forever!!

Blues aint from "black" and it aint from "white". Blues comes from the soul and heart and Joe Bonamassa has both. And I think he loves his music enough that he isnt concerned with charts. He knows personal satisfaction sometimes out weighs corperate greed. I personally think he is going to be ranked among the finest blues players and guitarists, at least he should be but I think he needs a few more years to stand him along side B.B. King. Great talent still needs longevity to reach that pinnacle

The problem too many of these guitars prodigies have is they can't write a memorable song. If you don't have a song the grabs people, you are doomed to obscurity.

sometimes obscurity isn't too bad. To a lot of people, pop stardom is a lot worse. Look at John Mayer; soul of a blues artist, forced to write crappy acoustic pop by his label, didn't get to show people his bluesy side until years after he came out
Joe's music grabs me. Hell, it grabs a lot of people with any sort of ear for blues music. I'm guessing that's good enough for Joe

John Mayer played his cards perfectly. He writes some pop songs that sell his albums and let him play the big venues. But there's more on his albums than just pop songs, and at his concerts he plays more than just pop songs. He also gets to do the blues and rock stuff he loves. But for more money and a bigger audience. I still say the thing that separates the greats from the mere prodigies is songs. Clapton, Page, Hendrix, etc -- they all had great songs that grabbed people.

Not so much Johnny Winter, but, at least on this tune, John Lee Hooker.
As for the comparison with Vai, guitar isn't an athletic contest and who you like is more dependent on your sensibility than the technique being used. I love Steve more only because he is a phenomenal player and one of the nicest and most grounded musicians I have ever talked to. But Joe smokes, too. Check out the Bloodline records. Great stuff.

vai im sure as more knowledge of scales and technique and odd timings but i doubt he can play blues like joe. they are just too different to compare. its usually not wise to compare musicians at this level of playing because its all just different, not better or worse.

Blues opened a lot of doors for people of "all" colors to explore and use Aerosmith,Led Zeppelin,Joe Cocker,Joe Bonamassa, the list is endless.
