hey. ive performed this song about 3 times and you guys could have totally added more personality to it. smile. its an upbeat song. it was ok. but you def could have pulled off something amazing.
maaaan we jus sang this at our concert last nite nd we rocked it!!!! i;m in Acapella choir nd we got to sing it with our chorale choir nd it was waaay louder nd prettier!! they need more bounce nd need to work on their vowels ALOT MORE!!!!!
they needed to be a lot more enthusiastic when singing this. it's so upbeat, and they're all just kind of standing there. relax and have fun with it!!! :D
only critique i have is vowels, and the tempo, i felt it was too fast to enjoy. But your vowels need to be rounder and need have more "Southern Dialect" if you understand that. Your singing about and praising god! gotta feel it! that separation at the end you dont even know whats being said.
What you don't see in the shot is the fact that there are obstructions in the back two rows where there can be no risers. It was a great space to sing (which you can't tell by the inexpensive microphone used), but it was logistically impossible to space them evenly. Sorry for putting you off. :)
I am the founding director of this choir, and I totally agree with the "lack of animation" comments. A lack of animation is a lack of commitment, and is also cultural. We mid-westerners are culturally less demonstrative in general. This is not to excuse our lack, but to state it is a larger barrier to overcome.
This was the 2nd performance in the choir's existence, all not knowing each other coming from 20 different schools. We have come a long way since then!
I sang this in 1997 at the ACDA National Children's Honor Choir in San Diego... It was awesome. Anton Armstrong conducting, how could it not be?
I agree with the comments about the lack of animation in this choir, though. This is a tough song, and it's not gonna come across with the Gospel flavor it needs without some enthusiasm--get into it, kids!
Hey onepiece... I agree, and I was actually in this choir.. it was a few years ago! I am now in my 4th year of college (as a music major). And it was a high school choir, which would explain the no animation!
High School does not necessarily mean dead. My high school choir program (Lee High, Huntsville, AL) was/is one of the best in the South and, arguably, the nation. My college vocal experiences had NOTHING on high school for me--it was disappointing.
There was absolutely no animation in the choir, this is a happy, jumpy song, there needs to be eyebrows up, leaning forward on certain parts, not glaring any time that your not singing.
Except for that, it was a good rendition, just a minor few fumbles.
This is a happy song, you should be happy to sing it. Can't exactly pout the gospel soul into a song without facial expressions..y'all look like you 1. hated that song 2. didn't want to be there and/or 3. were ready to kill somone o.<
I had to sing that for my Autumn Choir Concert, and I've got to say, the most difficult part was at the end where the sopranos split into three parts, the altos into two, and had to sing:
"Children, go where I send thee, how shall, how shall I send thee"
four times. Dif-i-cult! But one of the funnest songs. My director had us lean back and then throw ourselves forward when the part of:
"Go, go,go, gooooooo where I send thee" came on. Very effective!
We just had held a concert at my high school where we sang this song and everyone loved it we watched the video on the concert and at the end of this song you could hear the audience say wow
i just got back from my school chorus concert (i was in it) and we sang this song and it TOTALLY rocked! The director said if i see any of you standing still in this song there will be HELL to pay! lol so we were rocking out!
ummm...yeah i'm singing this in my seventh grade choir and i don't especially like how u guys sounded but it may just be me...keep workin

Our choir in high school is doing this song as of now,
and i would say that you guys did a really good job.
We have the tempo a little slower, but we also sing a little bit louder.. more people i think.
Kudos to you on the ending.. it is a tricky
part to sing and to conduct.
It is a truly awesome song though, and i'm glad that our choir is doing it as well.

Yeah...it's great for Renaissance pieces, but not anything above about 70 bpm. St. John's Abbey has about a 7 second reverb.

too bad about that performance space...not good for fast songs like this.
