  • This a great way to hear the "Carousel Waltz"

  • magic

  • where is this place....

  • What a magnificent carousel and video! Thank you for posting this rare machine and organ !

  • i love organ music but, i dont really know why though.

  • im getting dizzy

  • HIGGLYTOWN HEROES MUSIC CAROUSEL

  • this is so cool!! :D

  • this isn't actually a carousel! a carousel goes anti-clockwise, this (which is going clockwise) is actually a merry go round

  • nice machine

  • The carousel is going the wrong way! In the US at least.

  • @Wurlitzer157 Do some research.

  • @TomSimpson165

    Yes I know.

That was more or less a joke.

  • A shame it wasn't actually being run by steam on that day. Look carefully and you'll see the steam engine is stationary. Still, as close to an authentic Victorian carousel as you can get - brings back memories of childhood :)

  • the carousel was made in 1890's and the machine is by: Savage steam co. and the gavoli fair organ is playing carrousel waltz

  • OMG! A carousel that actually plays R&H's 'Carousel' theme!!! Where is this, I want to ride!!

  • bressingham on the norfolk suffolk border near diss.

  • First time I hear the entire musical piece I first heard as a child. Could anyone who knows the music's name please tell it to me?

Camera work could have been better but nevertheless this is a great video.

  • It's the main theme from Rogers & Hammerstein's "Carousel" musical.

  • Humanity may have progressed scientifically since the Victorian era, but in style and ingenuity we havene't gone much farther. The victorians had style and built simple but marvelous machines like this, and all we do is make sterile robots and the like. When will we learn?

  • @tregnier279 the first time ive ever seen a youtube comment and thought "yes! exactly!"

  • Wow, a rare steam driven carousel with a band organ, beautiful. Thanks for posting this video!

  • Back in the day when everything was more creative and built by hand..

  • Where is was the video shot I see a steam loco in the backround so I presume it is at one the heritage railways

  • I recognise this as a gallopers that I have ridden on a number of occasions. It is at Bressingham in Norfolk, which boasts wonderful gardens as well as three narrow gauge railways..

  • Thank you

  • That was soo cool! Almost like being there. Love carousels. Enjoyed the comments, too. The Brits say us Yanks run our carousels backward! That should teach us to put our romantic side on the right!.....By the way, does anyone know where the Philladelphia Tobogan Company carousel from the 1986 World Fair in Vancouver went? That was a clockwise ride, and quite beautiful!.

    Thanks

    Tony

  • Wow! Merry-go-rounds were all the way from the Victorian period?

  • That's superb.

I flippin loved it. It was supremely creepy!

  • Whatever you call it, it is a beautiful work of art. Yes, European machines move clockwise. An animal from such a machine can be identified easily by the artwork, or "romantic side". The most elaborate art is on the left side, an American one, the right side. Thanks for the post.

  • sorry THAT IS NOT A TRUE CAROUSEL. it is a MERRY-GO-ROUND.

A TRUE CAROUSL HAS HORSES ONLY AND NOTHING ELSE

a merry-go-round has lame circus animals on and goes the opsit direction.

  • True the British roundabout name applies to all types of cicular Rides nothing to do with the animals on them and ALL British roundabouts go clockwise.

  • When only horses are used the term Gallopers is the correct one

  • yes, but some people call switchbacks and scenic railways 'roundabouts' as they move round a track going up and down

  • @retlaw1976 YIKES!

  • thanks for the rotation direction info ,...never knew that!

  • Its the music from Carousel But the Merry go Round is Allen Blooms in Norfolk England, I have ridden it many times its still steam driven.

Please notice that British Round abouts all travel Clock wise whereas American and continental rides go the other way.

  • well! im not going to shoot myself whatever they call it

  • "Carousel Waltz"... duh, well that makes a lot of sense!

  • yes it does doesn't it.

  • Thanks for the info. I could swear I've heard it before.

  • just came to mind , i think its on the sound track of the film CAROUSEL with gordon mcrae and shirley jones.should be able to track it down on the net. hope this helps

  • i dont know, but it stayed in my head all day. cheerful tho isnt it?

  • What song is this?

  • It's the carousel Waltz from 'Carousel' Oscar and Hammerstein.
