SAD...VERY SAD, HOWEVER, THE SANCTIONS BETWEEN OUR COUNTRIES GIVES US NO LEVERAGE TO EVER HELP THESE POOR ANIMALS.....YOU WILL EVENTUALLY PAY AT GODS HAND....
Raise public attention to this cruelty, educate the public, give talks in schools, organize demonstrations and protests, humiliate visitors for supporting cruelty to animals...
At the same time, as an Asian, I have to say the Japanese (being among the most educated & affluent) are among some of the most backward. As a society, they produce many Nobel Laureate calibre in the physical sciences; but no famous zoologist or other animal-oriented fields. The Japanese, 100M strong, consume most of the world's Oceans giant tunas; with the Northern European/Scadinavian whaling people, they kill off & eat most of the world's big, majestic whales & dolphins, too.
@StaceyWF1 This is not an Asian, White, or African issue. This is a HOMO SAPIENs issue: how we, as a species, are taking all of the earth's best lands, making every acre "private" and killing off of other large animals through space-resource squeezes in several forms. Americans (almost entirely of European descent) -- with guns, for "sports" --- killed of 60M bisons, 50K wolves, millions of otters, and 1B passenger pigeons, by the early 1900s...
@StaceyWF1 Europeans killed off virtually all of their large animals (including, yes LIONS, by the 1700s, 200 years BEFORE the Americans.... once every square inch was claimed by people. Indeed, the only two continents (& the 2 people, Asians & Africans, if you will) that still have & PRESERVE large, wild, majestic animals are Asia & Africa, where the poor, "uncivilized" & "illiterate" Natives live. Fingers need to point INWARD, not outward, toward "others."
@HenryDavidT I would have to say Canada and the US have large animals to. Bison, bears, Moose. We do have the largest predatory land animal here in Canada and the US.
Also I think that the Lion population in America died off naturally. They couldn't survive the ice age.
So horrific. Honestly you are doing what I think is one of the best things we can do. The public must be shown how these amazing and complex creatures are treated. Elephants have such a similar brain chemistry to us humans, people need to be educated on that fact and that elephants do suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Keep posting you videos!
A place called Yama Jigoku located in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, Kyushu Island. ! I've tried negotiating with the owners many times, but they are not willing to change their ways. Very sad!
@dawilson100 The best I can say is approach the government. Other countries won't be able to do anything to help. Maybe try and start an organization. Try getting film students in on this with you and make a documentary.
Ever see the film sharkwater. The young kid that made that film changed 17 countries minds about shark fining that used to import shark fins and millions and millions of people. You could have the same results to improve the animals life in Japanese zoos.
omg... that poor elephant. That is torture for an animal of that size to be living in that small jail cell.
Maybe you should sneak in a large inflatable ball and throw it over, at least it will mentally stimulate the elephant for half an hour or so... better than nothing :(
That... place. I wouldn't consider that a fit habitat for a dog, let alone a horse, let ALONE an elephant. No grass, no pool, no hay to lie down on even. Jesus. What are people thinking?
what the heck? that idiot lady thinks the eliphant is listining while she sings. Try to sue this place or contact the owner. This is the equivelent of a human living in an 10ft by 10ft concrete box for your entire life.
Elephants raised in captivity sometimes show "rocking behavior", a rhythmic and repetitive swaying which is unreported in free ranging wild elephants. Thought to be symptomatic of stress disorders, and probably made worse by a barren environment, rocking behavior may be a precursor to aggressive behavior in captive elephants.
who the hell is running this place? no substrate on the floor, not even any water, tiny cage, no companions- the basic of needs. this is waht gives zoos a bad reputation, and it really doesnt have to be like that.
I agree so much on this situation. We need to close ALL Zoos' in the world. Animals belong in the wilds. Not in a horrible cage. So cruel people. I care about what my pets and including all animals' in world. One thing Ii hate about the world and it's cruel to treat animals in such a bad way :(.
i dont think its a good idea o close ALL the world's zoos. Some are EXTREMELY good and spend thousands of dollars to conserve animals and create an educational and realistic habitat. One such example is the Bronx Zoo in NYC which I think is one of the best, biggest and most educational zoos in the world. Its also the US HQ of the Wildlife Conservation Society. Watch some of WCSMedia's videos
This is heartbreaking...without a doubt the environment is too artificial and small. A tiny place like that equals to being incarcerated, there must be an agency in your city or surrounding areas whom you can contact. You can also try the World Wildlife Foundation, perhaps they could guide you in the right direction. Good luck, and I'll continue to search for other options.
Hi , I went to Himeji castle zoo, as bad or worse , children banging and karate kicking the chimps cage driving it crazy while adults looked on , polar bears pacing on tiny concrete floor cages ,I went ballistic and yelled at the people then went and abused the management I felt sick, Its ironic how they love cute animals but treat animals so cruelly.
Oh I hate things like this, it makes me so mad. I don't know how the Zoo gets away with it...Goverment don't care about animals probably and don't have proper laws to protect them in place. The poor Elephant.
Que crueldad!!!!

Poor thing. I think a ball to kick around and some art on the wall might help. A transfer to a bigger enclosure with fellow elephants would be best.

I see that on 1:25, this elephant is swaying because he's bord out of his mind. That kind of swaying is stereotypical behavior.
No grass, no hills, no trees, no nothing. No wander why the elephant is swaying.
