  • At 1:53 it says when we're though

  • God women had pressure thrown on them back then! Well we still do, but in a slightly less obvious way. :(

  • They need to re-release this movie! Instead of Finding Nemo that just came out like a few years ago!

  • I have to disagree with all the comments saying the other "brides" are ugly. I think it's just that Mulan was designed so beautiful that they look unattractive in comparison

  • The tall women in red getting Mulan ready, did you ever notice how after they say "calm", and she goes behind her, the woman dissapears?? O_O Ehhh

  • disney = american propaganda in art form

  • @Isreal4realz What? How is this "American Propaganda"??? Dumb Foreigner...

  • i love the gramma

  • LOL At 1:17 ALL the girls have the same haircut as the person who is dressing them up XD

  • hm... back when disney songs meant something.

  • @fxnavarro

I see your point, and whats even more sexist is that when this song is translated into other languages, they all mention 'good breeding' when Mulan is getting dressed and they're singing about what guys like about girls. However, historically this sexism is sadly accurate.

  • "a man by bearing arms, a girl by bearing sons"

I like the way this movie addressed sexism, this shows the way many people thought. "girls are only good for bearing sons". Even as a guy I can see what a horrible way of thinking that is.

  • did anyone else notice the lyrics "a man by bearing arms, a girl by bearing sons" wow, that IS chinese :P

  • @deathball751, that's not exclusively Chinese. That logic is found all over the world. Even in conservative Christian America. "China" does not have one ethnic groups. It has more than 50. Not all Chinese people had a male-preference. Male-preference was primarily because in Chinese ancestor worship, only a son can perform ritual duties for his parents.

  • You identify the changes but just because they're different to today's standards and hardly have a look at what is not "conventional" to these days. Most of you do it and are nothing more than hypocrites.

  • why do they not include the makeup artist and her moms lyrics?!

  • @freewolf317 the song is called True to your heart

  • lol gooks be gooking it out

  • anyone know what the song is that plays in the ending credits of the movie? can't find it for the life of me!

  • I love how at 1:08 that woman snaps into american :)

  • Compared to Mulan all the other girls are Ugly.

  • I love the Grandma <3

  • wow they were so wrong...

  • 1:51 = best part of the song.

  • Wow, after actually reading the lyrics to this song, I just realized how sexist it was! O.o

"We all must serve our emperor, who guards us from the Huns. A man by bearing arms, a girl by bearing sons." However this was how China was back then!

  • @bloodywanker49 That's the pointof the movie. She decides to bring her family honor in a different way from what's expected.

  • @bloodywanker49 The whole movie is sexist :) but it's amazing

  • @bloodywanker49 Yeah a lot of the Princesses have to overcome something in society by the end.

    For example:

    Ariel - Overbearing Father

    Pocahontas - Racism / Prejudice

Mulan - Sexism / Gender roles

Belle - Sexism / Gender roles

    Jasmine - Forced Marriage

  • 1:29 the chick disappears!! lol! Creepy looking.

  • am i the only one who laughed hysterically imagining prince zuko singing this?

  • @penguinlove12344 Oh my god I think I love you. XD

  • @penguinlove12344 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA

  • @penguinlove12344

    omg i love avatar!

  • @penguinlove12344 no... not AT ALL

  • This song always plays inside my head when my mom and grandma are trying to make me look "decent" 'cause I'm going to a place where the "cute guys" are -_-'

  • oh i am doing this song in mulan jr it is fun

  • lol wat i relized ITS THE CRICKET THAT GETS HER IN TROUBLE XD

  • Those other chicks are so ugly..

  • I love mulan so much :D I know the whole movie by heart :) This only female who isn't a disney princess who is a disney "princess" :) Thats why shes my idol!!

  • Mulan is so cute♥

  • Wow. I used to sing this song when I was kid and didn't really understand the meaning behind the lyrics. Now that I am adult, I am seeing the lyrics.

"Men want girls with good taste.

CALM.OBEDIENT. Who WORKS fast paced. With good BREEDING and tiny waist. Oh geez pretty much a guy wants a girl for looks, obedient, reproducing and works at home or something. ಠ_ಠ Thanks Disney. Now I know how to be a good wife and honor my family XD

  • @MilaBanilla

Well that's how it was in China back in the day, disney is really spot on in some cases.

Of course they put it down a notch for the children compared to the true story of Mulan.

  • @MilaBanilla They are pointing out how the culture was back then. Mulan is in conflict with those values, and Disney portrays both sides of the coin.

  • @MilaBanilla thats just how it was in almost all cultures don't blame disney, this is how it was in the past

  • @MilaBanilla They show how it was in China, but if you actually remember the movie, the father tells her he wants her just the way she is, and also, it is because she's not the stereotypical women that she succeeds and saves China. Disney never what it was doing, its called a plot line.

  • i'm chinese :D ......but i dont look anything close to mulan XO her beauty is soo perfect it can't be reproduced X(

  • @AsianNerdify i know right? im chinese too..:D

  • If it took me that short of a time to do my hair, makeup, and wardrobe in the morning, WHILE getting pumped for school by singing, I would never have a bad day.

  • mulan prettiest outta all the asians gurls

  • Summary of song: Guys like girls who work in the kitchen.

  • That cricket kinda messes up her day with the matchmaker to... LOL Turns out to be good though, eh?

  • 2:51 Scarier than the UNDERTAKER??

Did they even knew what was a TV THAT TIME?? :P

Then how could they knowayhing about Undertaker??

  • @rishabhrox1 undertakers work with dead people, hence where the wrestler got his name =P

  • @rishabhrox1 Oh my god. Are you serious? Oh my god.

  • @chinesellama1 What?? :P

  • @chinesellama1

LOL LOL LOL I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING!!

THIS SERIOUSLY WAS THE BEST REACTION EVER!!

  • @rishabhrox1 Um, I think they mean the 'undertaker' in terms of the person who deals with funerals.

  • @rishabhrox1 wow WOW WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW how old are you? :C

  • @rishabhrox1 An undertaker is a funeral director LOL. Not some name a wrestling dude has

  • @randallsayshi I KNOW! It was just a joke! =D

  • 1:52 the lyrics stop!!! RIP OFF

  • @TheFatalEmbargo, marry me for that comment?

  • I could picture Prince Zuko dressed in a kimono marching with the women along to this song xD

  • @TheFatalEmbargo oh god, Avatar, I miss that show. I've had an overload of nostalgia today.

  • @MrShinjiTabris if yer talking about the last aribender, then YES i totally agree with you phenomenal show!

  • What's sad is, as I man, I can say, deep down, that 1:27 - 1:36 is kind of true... sorry girls, but it's the truth, we want delicate and beautiful women. Not a caveman :P

  • @deathball751

Nothing wrong with knowing what you want, but don't speak for all guys. And know that fewer and fewer women are going to be "obedient." :b

  • soooo much better than mulan 2

  • I like the Chinesey English :D

  • Mulan is my fave because she was real. The bitch whooped some ass.

  • The part after this song is one of my favorite part if the movie

  • 2:35 Favorite part c:

  • Do you remember wanting to run through the plains of Africa with Simba?

Swing through the jungle with Tarzan? Go to the enchanted castle with Belle? Go to the ball with Cinderella? Ride a magic carpet with Aladdin? Save China with Mulan?Shrink to toy size to play with Buzz and Woody? Turn into mer-people and go under the sea with Ariel?

If you do or want Disney to bring back movies like this re-post this comment maybe the Disney Corporation will see it and get their heads on straight

  • In old china girls and women where ment to bring honor to their family for the guys in the war. The women where basicly supposed to make a match and make more boys for war and stuff.

  • 1:33 LOL

  • mulan has the most natural beauty among other disney princess.....

  • @MrSofea90 I agree I loooooove the way she looks I keep thinking how gorgeous she is when I watch the movie. :)

  • Can I just say that I LOVE Mulan!!!!! Not only did she teach me that you don't need a man to be strong and that women can do anything that men can do, but also she got me interested in Asian culture. Which made me the girl I am today!! <3

  • im a dress maker in this play

  • This was my favorite Mulan song as a child. I never realized how sexist it was! Kudos to Mulan for kicking social norms in the teeth!

  • Mulan is clearly the prettiest of those 5 girls

  • I LOVE MULAN I look so much like Cinderella but my FAVORITE Disney princesses are mulan pochahantus (Srry for bad spelling lol) jasmine and ariel they should make more originals :)

  • I remember cheering on simba when he fought scar.

I remember booing at Ursela when she took Arieal's voice.

I remember fighting the Huns with Mulan.

I remember the wind through my hair, running by Pocahontas.

I remember being locked in the Beast's castle.

I remember laughing and having fun with Mickey and his friends.

I don't remember watching teen drama on stupid disney channel

    W. Disney forever.

  • Thanks for your video ^__^

  • 2:01 Mulan may be the atypical Disney princess, but even she knows that the key to being a pretty animated woman is an unruly piece of hair in your face.

  • Calm

    Obedient

    Who Work fast paced

    With good BREEDING

    and a Tiny waist.

As a kid i thought they said Reading....

  • these disney movies indoctrinated good conservative values...bitches should be obedient and live to please men

  • FA MULAN!

    Present!

    Speaking without permission..

    Oops...

  • 1:39 that lady has amazing eye brows ! XD

  • i remember cheering on simba when he fought scar,

i remember booing ursela when she took ariels voice,

i remember fighting the huns with mulan,

i remember the wind in my hair, running with pocahantas,

i remember being locked in the beast's castle with bell.

what i dont remember is this new crap thats on disney now. what ever happened to ali and aj, or lilo and stich? kim possible? what happened to the good times? its a damn shame.

  • i like how they wanted her to make her look like she has a tiny waist

and then the matchmaker says she's too skinny. ^__^

  • @justineluvsu234 I have a feeling that if she wasn't wearing that sash she would have been "too big/unfashionably plump/peasant stock". That matchmaker was just dead set on finding faults, no wonder she is considered scarier than the undertaker.

  • "You'll bring honour to us all!"

    Peer pressure much?

  • ilove it

  • Do you remember wanting to run through the plains of Africa with Simba?

Turn into mer-people and go under the sea with Ariel?

If you want Disney to bring back movies like these repost this note on other disney movies so the disney copration might see it.

(I don't usually post this kind of stuff... but--in MY opinion--this is really necessary!)

  • "When we're through, boys will gladly go to war for you!"

I don't want my hole THAT badly...

  • I remember cheering on simba when he fought scar.

I remember booing at Ursela when she took Arieal's voice.

  • "and even you cant blow it!" i totally love the grandma!!

  • with obit-ants, and good breading. is she meeting the matchmaker or a judge for a dog show?

  • their faces look like eggs.

  • Mulan was badass lol she had a tattoo

  • Everytime the Song Ends.. I Wanna Watch what Happends Next .____.

  • I love Mulan, because she doesn't follow the norms society has placed on women. She thinks for herself and does what she believes is right. She fixed the mold Disney made with Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. Unlike waiting around for a man to come save her like they did, she took action on her own and saved the kingdom and her man.

  • @NTRanimations Well pocahontas saved her tribe, and made peace between the Indians and the French. and Ariel traded her voice and shit for true love (kinda bad though xD). Belle risked her life to save her father and fell in love with a hideous beast. Yes you are compeltely right about Mulan just thought I'd say that. lmao

  • @NTRanimations yeah and she did it without being a pushy bitch.... Unfortunatly, that is how most women are these days... Hold a door for them they yell at me and say im calling them weak by my gesture.

  • @NTRanimations She's great! What other Disney princess killed hundreds of people?

  • @NTRanimations

I really love Mulan as well though she's really not a new idea. The Disney Princesses got a bit more spirited way back with Ariel and Belle and Jasmine. Mulan is unique though because she's not a royal princess, either by birth or by matchup.

  • @DisneyMagicDreamer85 The thing is, I think Mulan's plotline gives her much more chance to be spirited. Ariel puts her whole civilization at risk just to get a bloke, and Jasmine HAS to play the role of 'damsel in distress' because Aladdin has to swoop in and save her. Belle is the only other who can really compete, because she performs a similar act of self-sacrifice for a family member.

  • @AnHibou

You make good points although Ariel didn't realize what she did until too late, and Jasmine was trying to placate Jafar for her fathers sake too. Remember Iago shoving the crackers down his throat? I couldn't help but laugh at that.

But all the Disney Princesses have a kind of inner spirit that I think really sets them apart from your typical Damsel in Distress fairy tale.

  • @NTRanimations I agree! She and Tiana are my favorite princesses!

  • @NTRanimations To bad she couldn't do all of that as a woman, but had to dress up like a man to get anything accomplished.

  • when i was little, i used to put water on my head like at :50. =^.^=

  • @marspirate16 was that water? i always wondered what was being splashed on her

  • too much make up... blehh

  • This song really emphasises the whole point of the movie and the history behind it.

  • I remember doing the bow at the end with a pink umbrella with trains on it when I was a kid.

  • By the time I got there that apple would be long gone- seriously, how a bout 3?

  • It's hard to believe the same company who created Mulan also spawned High School Musical and Miley Cyrus

  • Comment removed

  • @kagnomi Mulan was based on a Chinese folk tale...

    The animation is top-notch, though.

  • @kagnomi disney's a big company and owns many studios. The teams that worked on the likes of Mulan, Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, Tarzan, Lion King, Hercules, Aladdin and the others have long since disbanded.

Believe it or not, Disney actually makes far more money from Miley Cyrus and High School Musical than it earned from those films.

  • @FireBenderKwyna You know, what? Sadly, I can believe it because tween girls are very powerful. They can make or break a celebrity.

  • @kagnomi i love how you chose "spawned"

  • @kagnomi It's just... not the same company anymore :P

  • @kagnomi What. B|

  • I agree!!!! I LOVE this movie!!!!!! :D

  • Scarier than the UNDERTAKER?!??!?!

    DONG! DONG! DONG! O.O

  • @breyerhorseluved

    Oooh well..

  • Damn, talk about peer pressure.

  • Thank you, Disney for making my childhood so memorable<3

  • This is my favorite part of the movie! I love Mulan!

  • omg it stopped at will gladly go to war for you...ughhhh

  • i actually love this song lmao

  • Granny: Now add a cricket just for luck--

Me: Uh- I think we're gonna need a few more crickets.

  • The fact this video has over 2 million views gives me faith in humanity.

  • idk about you but it takes hell of a lot more word to get my hair to bubble like that

  • "Now add a cricket just for luck and even you can't blow it"

    - Oh grandma you have no idea :D

  • Singalong?Pfft. I already know the lyrics.

  • Fa mulan!

  • @Peaches1300 PRESENT!!

  • @I3oarderlineCrazy Speaking without permission...

  • @Peaches1300 ooops...

  • I know exactly how Mulan feels, I have to have those loose strands of hair in my face when my hairs pulled back too.
