"YooSay" The answer to your question is yes, the CEOs of AIG work significantly harder than the people at McDonalds. My job position allows me interact with countless CEOs of major corporations across the country. Their work schedule is on average 6 days per week 14 hrs a day. Their job does not stop when they leave the office, their responsibility follows them home, on vacations and everywhere they go. As an employee at McDonalds their responsibility stops upon punching their time clock.
@junkys200 Way to go, right to the point. This whole idea that rich people are rich by birth, and somehow owe it to poor people to pay their bills, is so medieval. Nobody gets money for free. My girlfriend is a doctor, and she works on average 60 to 70 hours a week. She is responsible for the life or death of others. What keeps anybody from becoming a doctor ? You want to do it, do it. Or become anything, in any profession, where you can make lots of money.
they need to change the system here. for the 1st power in the world, its a shame to have a healthcare system that' s ineffective. As SechyoolarYOOESAY said, obtaining healthcare is a basic necessity such as eating, sleeping. Unfortunately, many people here think it is a commodity and this kind of thinking has to stop!!
does it have to? do you honestly think if you are sick you should have to worry about money going into a hospital? it is a right everyone should have and most other countries do have, why you fighting it it's beneficial to you? if a family memeber wasnt insured and needed treatment youd be ok with them being charged thousands and thousands?
If you cannot afford something, you don't get it. And I should not have to pay for it for you. That's YOUR responsibility. Stop being a deadbeat and living off of the labor of those of us that work
hang on there one fucking second, you dont pay jack shit for me, you're in a different country and I have a job, I have no problem paying for the poor where I live out of my taxes (it's not that much cheapskate). And if there's a recession on and someone doesnt have a job therefore cant pay insurance ae they not entitled to healthcare? there's nothing wrong with people getting healthcare, no one should die or be refused Care in 1st world countries it's disgraceful.
I didn't mean YOU per se, idiot. I know that you are in some other lib country and frankly, don't give a shit where you live. Your insults are comical when your logic blows.I REPEAT-NO INSURANCE, TOO BAD.Deal with it.
only one country backing your logic chief, a lot more backing mine and it's reflected in the more successful healthcare countries so I don't care what you think, and I think you're an idiot, a heartless one at that, pretty much all the Euro countries have free healthcare and it works, why do you want to pay for healthcare? should you have to pay the police when your house gets burgled? (let me guess you'll blow the guys head off bla bla) but answer the question.
Hmmm....if you can't afford the $20,000 ambulance bill, you don't get it. The free market cannot dominate the healthcare industry. There are places in our democracy where we don't need to capitalize on our citizens and health is one of those.
The "deadbeats" you speak of are growing increasingly more middle class. The cost of healthcare is ruining small businesses who try to provide for their employees.
Do you think that good health is only a privilege of the wealthy?
I will repeat-if you cannot afford something, you cannot have it. Why should the govt steal from some to provide for those that refuse to take care of themselves? Why should the taxes on small biz be so onerous that a decent living cannot be had?
Excuse me, "govt steal from some to provide for those that refuse to take care of themselves".....WTF DO YOU THINK MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY ARE!?!? That is "stealing" from the taxpayers and giving it to those in need. Tell me how this is wrong.....are you against this "socialism" too? Healthcare is the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the US. If you fix it so it can work for everybody, then everyone will prosper from it equally. Granted the rich will lose some of their disposable income...
This i believe, is the problem in the end....GREED. The world has enough resources to house every person on the planet, yet we think of how much it will cost us....YOU CAN'T BUY HAPPINESS therefore money is not relevant to living a good life. Once we realize all of us have common hopes and dreams, we can prosper TOGETHER and end this stupid income-based class society we live in...
When you actually get a J-O-B and make a living, perhaps, and that's a stretch, you will understand the importance of being self-responsible. It is not "greed" to get the best education you can get, the best J-O-B you can get and the best earnings you can get.
LOL congrats u know how to spell job.....something tells me you are a Palin fan, am I wrong? You remind me of the hard conservative moron who believes everything he sees on Fox News.
Excuse me, but do you think the CEO of AIG or any other company works harder than the 12 hour shift at McDonald's? Do you think the CEOs work harder than the minorities picking in the fields all day for minimum wage? FUCK NO
In the end, we need people to do BOTH jobs to contribute to society.
Liitle one, the CEOs & other top execs have been educated and have worked to achieve. Albeit, some of them made some bad biz decisions, but they should earn more than the field workerrs. The field workers are NOT educated...
Um....am I debating their level of education? No. I was arguing on the basis of how hard the individual workers work. CEOs can enjoy their AC, luxurious offices, but the crop-picker ultimately works harder than most any CEO in the hot fields.
Think about this....If everyone were educated to the same level, who would fill the McDonald's and farm jobs? Nobody..they contribute to society just as much as the CEO or any other worker for that matter
think the point he is making is that is not teh best in the world, just because some of US's hospitals amy have some of teh most sophisticated machines, doesn't mean it has the best over all care.
Our government panders to the pharmeceutical companies. It is all about greed. Americans have to stand up and demand a major change. If you watch the entire Sicko documentary you will get angry at our government. People in Europe, France and Canada live less stressful, healthier lives than we do. America has a very high infany mortality rate. How disgusting. God Bless Michael Moore.
Why not a social system where all have health care? Holland is a good example. We pay a reasonable price and are provided good health and dental care. When you make a lot of money you pay more for your insurance... make less then you pay less. Makes sense... ????
Same thing in America. Problem is, the government won't go after the insurance companies to make them lower their premiums to make it more affordable. In my opinion, insurance companies, like corporations such as Wal Mart are a big reason that capitalism (as it relates the the American mixed economy) doesn't work. In my opinion, there needs to be more intervention in businesses rather than giving away money and increasing the national debt further like Moore suggests.
If you watch the movie you'll realize it's even worse than that since there a large amount of insured who are screwed out of receiving care for life threatening illnesses.
18,000 Americans will die this year simply because they're uninsured. * According to the Institute of Medicine, "lack of health insurance causes roughly 18,000 unnecessary deaths every year in the United States. Although America leads the world in spending on health care, it is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not ensure that all citizens have coverage." Insuring America's Health: Principles and Recommendations, Institute of Medicine, January 2004.
healthcare for profit with insurance middlemen and big pharma selling with multiple price lists....should not exist in this country. There is no solidarity and fraternity in this country as there is in European countries that got bombed into the necessary conclusion that we are all "in this boat together and we must pull together"....Pharmaceutical big wigs that wind up with a cushy job in the FDA...your days are numbered as are the obscene lobbies and earmarks in the congressional world.
Sign this petition urging your congresspeople to pass H.R. 676 so that all individuals residing in the United States can receive high quality, affordable health care services. If you live in California, tell your legislature to pass S.B. 840, which was vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger last year.
Everyone: I just wrote a letter to my congressman, urging him to improve our health system, and I haven't lived in the US for 4 years (though still a US citizen). If I can do something, so can you. If you walk out of Sicko hoping that you'll get better health care, but then do nothing, then you will have wasted the momentum created by this film. We must act now if we want change!
Michael Moore is a true American patriot and speaks extremely cogently about the three steps that need to be taken to make sure that universal health care is treated as the human right it should be in this country.
