@buduki1@ItzDuckSauce No, we're getting hte F-35A, the 'B' is STOVL (the fuel/munitions weigh too much) and 'C' is the carrier variant (Tailhook, tougher landing gear and folding wings) and we're getting LHD's (Helo equlivent of a carrier, without ski ramps so no carrier ops) not full carriers.
@ItzDuckSauce We don't have a lot of choice when it comes to jets with budgets and all, So the F-18 was a good option for it's multi-role capabilities. Much the same reason 'I assume' your marines and navy use it? They replaced the F-111 so as you could imagine it was a definite upgrade :)
@ItzDuckSauce Nice they can take off much like the harrier? Might be able to launch multiple air craft if that's the case, that'll definitely help with air superiority.
these guys have got one of the best jobs in the world and coming from Newcastle I'd have to say one of the best offices to work in when they fly over Newcastle!!
@OriginalAtomicSheep Mate...these Hornets are based at Williamtown. They don't need extra fuel when the airfield that they are performing at is where they are based at. I'd say it has more to do with the fact that they perform together.

Dunno why they put the two underwing tanks on the Hornets.
aussiepride2005 10 months ago
@aussiepride2005 tanks are for fuel so extra range

@aussiepride2005 those under-wing tanks are indeed fuel tanks. in this case i suppose more fuel = longer routine
