  • does anyone now how to make the brim for a cloche

  • I can't find the All purpose Lacquer Sizing Spray anywhere except online. They want 13.00 just to ship a 9.00 can of it.. You can get it at a shop online called Manhatco. If you buy a dozen cans you can get them for 6.75 each

  • cute cute guy.....

  • Very cool hat forming :)

  • Can we please have a video for Big Dog sweaters crochet or even mad out of a t shirt. or something ( they get cold too ;.; ) Winter is just around the corner <3 and it's so hard just to find help how to do it

  • Is it just me, or does Victor Osbourne look like Andrew from VlogCandy. I miss you VlogCandy -_-"

  • Like a boss.

  • Thank you! Now I can make my own miniature hats.

  • What's the spray you use to stiffen the hat? I couldn't understand what you said.

  • This is really interesting! I didn't know this, but I've always wanted to make hats!

  • hey i need your help i used Polyurethane and its green, once it is dry it is hard but if u press its squishy.

Is this ok or should i get another foam sealant ? I was thinking maybe covering the hat block with one of those ceramic pastes that gets really hard by itself to make it more resistant.

What im scared of is that it will be too soft to mold hats!

thx alot for the vid !

  • This is an amazing video and now can help me make hat blocks because I already make ladies hats

  • thank you soooooooo much mr. Osborne! This is an AMAZING tutorial... one question though.. how do you finish off the edges of the felt? Do you just cut them?! definitely going downtown tomorrow and getting the stuff for this XD <3

  • Can you make a cute tiedye accessorie or some fall something that I can wear to school??!!

  • can i use ordinary felt cloth and plaster of paris for the mold instead of using the foam?

  • Excellent video!

  • Excellent!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. I can never find a hat to fit my big head. Using this method I can make a hat to fit my BIG head!

  • @PopGoesNappy ditto, ....I guess to make a firm brim, we just curve the excess and spray more of that lacquer.

  • amazing, that came in so handy, i will take a millinery course, in the meantime...thank you....your great...

  • Fabulous! You are awesome!

  • Oh wow, I had been looking all night for something to make my boyfriend for his birthday and kinda got sidetracked looking at all this awesome how-to stuff.

Anywho, I randomly came upon this video, absolutely perfect!

    Thanks (:

  • Thank you for the great video. It actually helped me get started with trying to make the forms without having to try finding a supply store for wooden forms. would love to see more hat videos.

    great job Victor --thanks again

    diannah

  • could you do the same thing to make a top hat or the hatter's hat.

and yes i know there is a video on how to make the mad hatter's hat but i want to make a real hat replica not paper

  • @juro294 you could for a stovepipe hat as it is straight up and down. but a top hat which flares at the top would get stuck when the felt has been moulded.

the block have to be a 5-piece block so it can be removed.

  • Excellent, I have been looking and looking for this kind of information. Thanks so much for making this video.

  • Oh my gosh! The tutorial is fabulous! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing!

  • sry i barely seen ur channel its AWESOME!!!

  • also how do u make a polo shirt for a guy n a non yarn kinda scarf

  • How do u make a hat if they dont make them in ur size i wanna make a cabby hat but my heads HUGE!!! please help =(

  • Anybody know of a way to do this that doesn't ruin the original hat?

  • That's why you buy a cheapo version of the hat you want to make

  • maybe putting cling film on the inide of the hat would prevent you from ruining the orginal hat

  • Ahh! Finally some great hat tutes, I'm a milliner from Australia, that its so awesome, I've been buying traditional wooden blocks for ages, I'm so going to try this out, thank you Threadbanger!

  • Would shaping leather work well using this method?

  • This was a really cool lesson! Very well explained too! Thanks :)

  • brilliant ^^

  • This video is great! I love hats and really want to try this out. Teresa Reagor, American Board Certified Hair Color Specialist

  • OK, i have a problem; i´m mexican and i found a little dificult to understand what is he using (the lacquer and the "great stuff") and where can i find this material, and the most important: WHERE CAN I FIND THE FELT?! (that is no internet) here are some shops that sell felt but is for clothes, so, they don´t have the correct form...

  • lacquer is like stuff that coats it and makes it harder. its usually to protect paint so it doesnt scratch so easily. and the great stuff is just foam you can buy at a hardware store and it gets bigger and bigger (expands) and then gets hard. and if you cant find felt then the internet is the only place you can get it from

  • go to your favorite place

    home depot

  • Where do you get the felt?

  • All I can think of is making it yourself out of a very fine gauge wool- either from a premade sweater or your own knitting/crochet. . But it might be thicker than the material used in the video.

The foam is used to make a barrier between pipes and the outside of a home, that might help you find it, or a similar product in your area.

  • ahaha this is so cute XD

  • That foam is one of the COOLEST things I have seen in a long time! The possibilities! What a great lesson guys, thanks SO much! :-)

  • I wish people wore funky hats like that.

  • Awesome episode. But really, Twitter? I remember when you made an Adbusters shirt. If I miss out on a contest because it was only on Twitter, I will be crushed.

  • This was very clever, and i am excited to try this out myself but i wish he showed us how to make a hat out of things we find in a typical craft store not professional grade hat felt. but still very cool

  • This is an awesome video--I took a millinery class, but we didn't have enough time to work with specialized molds like this one. Now I can make my own. Thanks, guys!

  • Cool! Looking forward to more hat making ideas! Happy St. Patricks day threadbangers!

  • Whoa, that was really neat! Thank you Threadbanger, that was really awesome! <3!

  • So if I wanted to mold a preexisting felt hat, I would pretty much follow these steps? Is there anything special I would have to do?

  • FINALLY! A non girl specific episode.

  • wow epic! i have to try this out some time!

  • I really enjoy your videos, you keep it simple, makes me feel like even I can do it! Thanx.

  • That's so cool !!! After the 1950's there where probably only a few left that could make anything close to the hat molds. Great to see the talent is still there...

  • Great episode!!!

  • How clever to use expanding foam! I've read older books about hat making and hat molds, with the only advice to use wooden hat blocks. Expanding foam: very clever and easy!

  • Very awesome! I love this episode!

  • hahhaa oh molds they always make me smile hahahaha :D

  • - He says; I don't like being called a mill . . What ?

  • A milliner is a person who make hats. It's a word you don't hear very often any more! He says he likes being called a milliner because it's a rare term. I agree, it's pretty cool!

  • wow thanks for sharing! I was just watching a girl make hats on stylelsious only they didnt tell how to make the mold...anyway cool!

  • can you do a episode on how to make a mani from paper or plastic bags or things in your home already

  • I really enjoyed this. Maybe I will try it sometime :D

  • He is incredible!

  • That's actually really, really neat.

  • indiemogul is better

  • i did this at uni

  • thats an awesome tut!

  • AWESOME!

  • The tool used to make the groove in the mold isn't a sander, it's called a rasp. If you want to find one, go to a local hardware shop that has wood working tools :)
