  • Do you have to use the ts13 gloss with this ts38 gunmetal?

  • @PsychoticBovine Nope, you can use just about any clear coat on the paint that you like. It's even possible to throw a matte finish on the ts38 if that what "floats your boat". Truth be told, you don't have to clear coat the paint at all, but I prefer to do it to increase the durability of the paint.

  • @yamata86 ok, thanks! Appreciate the info! great looking truck, by the way.

  • @yamata86 how much was it? and were the lights included?

  • @dewalt607 Unfortunately the light/sound kit is a separate purchase from the Truck kit.

The truck is Tamiya kit #58415 and usually cost around $400.

The sound/light kit is Tamiya kit #53957 and is around $300.

The Transmitter/Receiver is a Futaba 4EXA and is about $150.

  • r the noises r reall O.O

  • @Roger28107 Sorry, I'm actually not sure where Tamiya records their sounds from. The sound unit on this truck (Tamiya kit #53957) is the same sound unit they use for the Ford F-150 Highlift and the older Toyota 3Speed, so it is pretty safe to assume they didn't record the engine noises from an actual Toyota Tundra. It may not be 100% authentic, but I still like it.

  • 1 person dosent like life

  • @MrTELLIETUBBIE Haha, yeah, that's just how it goes. I don't sweat it.

  • The transmitter I used was a Futaba 4EXA that I got from Towerhobbies. That was about three years ago and it appears that Futaba has stopped making that Radio. Another one that you could use is the Futaba 4GWD. They sell that one at Towerhobbies for $129.

  • where did you get the remote please respond!!!!!!!!!!!!! im begging u

  • can you built the same truck for me? How much? or would you sell yours?

  • @alekseysavchak TamiyaUSA sells them fully assembled (and ready to run) on their website. The colors offered fluctuates, but they offer something like 5 different colors. I'm not positive they have them in stock at the moment, but if they don't, they should have more soon.

  • can i ask a question? what is the colo of the body?? pls reply! :)

  • @tamiyagtr

The paint is all shot from Tamiya TS spray-cans.

I used a few coats of Tamiya Fine Surface Primer (Light Gray) for the primer.

The base color is several light coats of Tamiya TS-38 Gunmetal. I used 2 cans over the whole truck.

To seal it all up I used 2 light coats of Tamiya Clearcoat.

  • @yamata86 tnx :))

  • how much RTR? please how much is this RTR , reply

  • @WadddellStudios Tamiya sells this truck ready to run for about $1200 I think. I think they offer it in about four or five different colors. When you buy the RTR they include the light/sound kit and a Futaba controller.

I built mine from the kit version and did a few upgrades along the way.

  • @yamata86 AMAZON $450!!!!!!

  • @Zach122377 Yeah, that's the kit. You would still have to buy the light/sound kit, transmitter/reciever, battery/charger, and paint/glue. Then assemble.

  • @yamata86 O....srry

  • @Zach122377 No problem. No need to apologize. The amazon item didn't do a very good job of pointing out they were selling the kit. Man I wish they were only 450 RTR. I'd get a few more if they were that cheap :)

  • @yamata86 ya ikr ;)

  • @yamata86 right thanks man, it looks like an incredible truck too, nice vid ;)

  • QUANTO Custa o Modelo POIs estou interessado

  • how much it costs?

  • @jurciks71

The truck is Tamiya kit #58415 and usually cost around $400.

The sound/light kit is Tamiya kit #53957 and is around $300.

The Transmitter/Receiver is a Futaba 4EXA and is about $150.

  • is it complicated to built out of the box ??

  • @patwill0007 There are quite a few pieces, but the instructions are extremely well done. As long as you follow the instructions, it's not hard to build. The most complex part is wiring up the lighting, but you don't have to buy the light/sound kit to enjoy the truck. You can buy the lights/sound later and add those when you feel more comfortable with how the kit constructed.

  • @yamata86 do the lights, servos, radio, battery, charger, etc... come with the car

What parts already come with the car out of the box ?

  • @patwill0007 The truck kit (Tamiya #58415) needs servos, electronic speed controller (esc), battery/charger, and a transmitter/receiver (I use a Futaba 4EXA). If you buy the light/sound kit (Tamiya #53957), it includes an esc. One thing that may help is go to the Tamiyausa website and search by 58415. That will get you to the truck kit page. On that page, they have a link to the instructions. On Page 2 of those instructions they detail the extra items you would need to complete the truck.

  • Can you pm me the sites you got for every upgrade?

    Bearing, headlights sound, vibration etc...

  • @Naturepheonix The lights/sounds/vibration is all part of one kit. It is Tamiya part #53957. Tamiya also has a kit that supplies all the bearings. It is Tamiya Part #53958. Both are currently instock at Towerhobbies.

  • @yamata86 Thanks!

  • wher could i buy one

  • @bsmiles100 Right now they are instock at Towerhobbies, Horizonhobby, and the TamiyaUSA website.

  • No way the head lights flicker (ignite) then come on like HID, Class!!!!

  • is it waterproof? and how much did you pay for it?

    ?

  • @flyguyviky I didn't set mine up to be waterproof, but it can be done. A youtube user named djmedic2008 has an amazing set of build videos for his Tamiya Tundra where he made it totally waterproof. As far as cost, the truck is Tamiya kit #58415 and usually cost around $400. The sound/light kit is Tamiya kit #53957 and is around $300. The Transmitter/Receiver is a Futaba 4EXA and is about $150.

  • i'm building a tundra now. i also got the mfc-02. mine didn't come with the four front fog lights though. did you're come with them or did you use leftover lights? i notice two are yellow, two are white.

  • @mentalmetal1 I had to buy those lights separate. For some reason they don't include them. I bought yellow and white because the truck kit included different light covers. I just felt like mixing things up a little. Good luck on your build.

  • badfuckingass.

  • i love the head lights, they look like real hid`s when they come on, sounds great to.

  • @samwel69 Thanks. Tamiya really did a nice job when they designed this kit. Lots of details that you normally wouldn't think about, and then when you see them in action, they make a big difference.

  • u guys have too much money and way to much time. these little guys cost a shit load

  • That is the coolest rc truck i have ever seen... I want one now LOL!

  • looks real

  • hey, can you switch on and off the sound or it is directly on???

please response and thanks in advance

  • @MasterBoy392 There is a volume dial on the control unit, so you can vary the volume from "off" to "annoyingly loud".

  • @yamata86

wow !!!!! thats too good !!!!!

thanks for your reply bro, really kind from you :))

  • Does the Futaba 4EXA has a self centering left stick(throttle stick) feature. Also, I read something like you need a ground frequency for it. I don't exactly whatit mean. I was going to buy the Futaba 4VWD but it's hard to find.

  • @Harvz78 Yeah, Futaba actually stopped making the 4VWD a while ago. I have one for my Tamiya Scania Semi, but they stopped making them by the time I got my Tundra. The 4EXA has a series of frequencies devoted to airplanes and some to ground rcs, (cars and trucks). You'll want to order one that fits into the "ground frequencies". Anyone you order from should know what you mean.

The 4EXA left stick does not self center. I'll shoot you some links in a PM that will show you how to do it.

  • Thanks for replying and help. I bought mine yesterday and start building the whole day till 2am. What paint did you use and use to paint, a spray can or air brush? Do you have to apply first like premier paint or no?

  • @Harvz78 That paint is from Tamiya TS spray-cans. I started with a few light coats of Tamiya Fine Surface Primer (Light Gray) for the primer. I did that over 2 nights. On the third night I applied light coats of Tamiya TS-38 Gunmetal. I used 2 whole cans over the whole truck. That took about 4 nights. Then I let the paint cure for a week then did 2 light coats of Tamiya Clearcoat. It's not hard to do, you just have to resist the temptation to rush to the finish.

  • That is really cool. What radio controler and reciever are using? Your video made me wanna buy one. I just saw one in our local hobbies store for $415. Is it hard to build it and can you tell me what will I'm going to need? Thanks

  • @Harvz78 Thanks for the complement!!! I am using a Futaba 4EXA for TX/RX. It works really well in this truck.

The kit comes with instructions that are VERY well done. It isn't hard to build at all if you stick to the instructions. If you go to the Tamiyausa website and search on "Tundra" you can download the instructions and look them over. In the first several pages, they tell you all the recommended tools and paint colors to use.

    Hope that helps.

  • how much is it???(euro)

  • @andrea1098zar53 Sorry I didn't see your comment till now. Also have to apologize because I don't know the prices in euro, only know USD. The truck is Tamiya kit #58415 and usually cost around $400. The sound and lights are sold separately and it costs around $300. The Transmitter/Receiver are about $150.

  • Love it =)

  • @RemcoGT Thanks. If you get the chance, you should pick one up for yourself. They are a blast to build and drive. It gets even more fun if you start hopping it up.

  • @yamata86 Well.. they don't sell them here in the Netherlands.. and my girlfriend would kill me if i buy such a expensive toy like that.

Been searching on E-bay.. the car for 380-400 dollars.. without electrics and then the MFC-02 unit wich cost a fortune..

  • Does the kit bring all of the pieces cuz all i want are all those features like the horn, lights, turn signals, and rev sound well also te truck and anoher thing..... What is this bearing upgrade thing please explain I have $600 to buy this and I need to know how to build it in order to buy it thank you oh and please respond I'm desperate to buy this

  • @thedustah Hello. The truck is Tamiya kit #58415 and usually cost around $400. The sound and lights are all part of a HopUp accessory that Tamiya makes called a MFC-02 and is Tamiya part # 53957. Sadly they only sell that separately and it costs around $300. The bearing kit replaces all the metal bushings in the truck. It helps the whole truck run a little smoother. The bearing kit is Tamiya part # 53958 and costs about $50.

  • @yamata86 ok thank you for all your help i have decided to buy it and all of the upgrades and extras too! :D THANKS!!!

  • So nice. Thank you man.

  • Hey Man. Where did you buy this? Is there any specific store which sell this kind of RC cars?

  • @mgl91orgil I bought mine from a friend that was has a deal with a Tamiya distributor. They are currently available from Towerhobbies,TamiyaUSA, and Horizonhobby websites. A place with some good general RC info is rcuniverse. The Tamiya part number for this kit is 58415.

  • Great job with this Tundra. Mine is on the way right now and I was wondering wich colour did you use with yours, maybe is the Tamiya gun metal? I'm thinking on paint this colour because this way emblem stand out more

  • @josemasd Thanks!! Yep, the color was Tamiya TS-38 Gunmetal. I let the paint cure for a week then did two light coats of Tamiya Clearcoat. Congrats on the buy. It's really fun to build and drive. Tamiya really did this kit right.

  • @yamata86 I'm gonna use gun metal but X-10 reference for painting with airbrush. For those who wants paint this way but in the same colour than box pic I recommend X-31 titanium golden. Of course after paint apply some thin coats of clearcoat for better finishing and protect against scratches. Firts coats must be applied far away for avoiding disolvent attackt paint, mainly black zones. It happened to me with my Scania R470

  • i got a boner

  • nice! i have one on the way. and i also got the mfu unit. what bearing kit did you use?

  • I just used the Tamiya bearing kit. It is Tamiya part # 53958. Have fun with the build, it is a total blast to build up and drive.

  • Need some help again please. Everything works except for: Headlights, fog lights, hazards and/or blinkers. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? If I press the light switch and winker switch on the MFC-02 switch I can get the lights to work but I can get headlights, fog lights and hazards to work with the controller. Using a 4EXA with self centering mod. Thanks again!

  • I'm betting the MFC is just having trouble recognizing the length of the throw of the two sticks and four trims. The MFC manual (on Page 9) has a section called "Transmitter teaching mode" and "Trim teaching mode". Go through the steps on those two sections (only takes a minute or two) and I'll bet it fixes your problem. I had the same issue when I built my Tamiya Scania semi.

  • Thanks, I tried that and now can at least work my hazards but not my headlights or fod lights, I will keep messing with it. You've been a ton of help and I appreciate ur time. What kind of wheels/tires are those? I will try and post a video of mine soon so you can see the end result : )

  • Just double check all your connections and make sure the wire didn't break away from the backs of any of the bulbs.

Also, on my Tundra, I have to flick the right stick REALLY fast to get the headlights to come on.

I used the standard wheels/tires that came with the kit. I just painted the rims flat black.

  • I'm stoked, everything works. I think your suggestion on the transmitter teaching mode may have done the trick, now I'm happy. The guy at the hobby store (who says he owns 6 of these Tamiya trucks & tanks) couln't figure anything out and suggested I take the whole truck apart :) Anyways, just wanted to say thanks again for your fast answers & guidance!

  • I'm so gald you posted the N5 pieces below, I just put that together and missed the N5's as well :) Anyways, I'm getting close to setting up the MFC-02 here and the control box has only one plug in for the high beams (J14), since there are two high-beams, shouldn't there be two plug in slots in the box? Also, did you have to buy additional lights or which ones did you use for the brush guard and which for the bar in the bed? Thanks again for your help!

  • Glad I could help.

Those highbeam instructions are confusing. The MFC-02 instruction book is actually wrong on what bulb to use.

The Tundra book has a very convoluted chart on page 28 that cryptically tries to show that you actually us a White-Grey light string for highbeams, not 2 white-blacks. The white/grey puts two 3mm bulbs on one plug, so you put that on J14 and it drives both highbeams.

Sadly the brushguard lights have to be bought separately. I know, major bummer.

  • how much does it cost 4 the lights and engine noise is it 350 quid just 4 the light and the engine sound or 350 quid 4 the truck aswell

  • The light/sound kit by itself is 399 usd (sorry, not sure what that is in English currency). The truck is a separate kit from the light/sound kit. You don't have to have the light/sound to run the truck. It is just an extra accessory. You can just use a plain two channel TX/RX if you want. It keeps the cost down that way.

  • does your front right tire rub against the running board on your truck when ya turn all the way right?

  • When I first put my Tundra together I made a mistake on the build that made my running board rub. In your instruction book check Step 33 (on Page 18) and make sure all four N5 parts are in place. If those aren't in place it lowers the floorboards and they rub the tires when you make a sharp turn.

  • Hey I am willing to buy your Tundra . Just say how much ! :)

  • Wow thank lilenday, but I love my Tundra too much to part with it. But you can pick one up from Tamiyausa. You can buy the kit or they actually sell them ready to run as well. They offer them RTR in different colors: Champagne Gold (23663), Metallic Black (23664), Mica Red (23665), Light Gun Metal (23666), Mica Blue (23667), or Mica Silver (23668).

  • AWESOME TURCK! Very nice job, can I ask what radio you are using? I just bought the truck and the MFC-02 unit but I can't find that Futaba T4VWD which they recommend? Any radio model suggestions or ideas? Thanks :)

  • Thanks for the complement. Futaba has actually stopped making the 4VWD. You can use the Futaba 4EXA for TX/RX. The left stick is not self-centering, but if you e-mail Futaba Cust Service, they will send you the spring and tab to make if self-center. It's a VERY easy fix.

  • Thanks for the help and again: well done on the build, looks awesome, I'm looking forward to starting mine!

  • Wow, that paint job looks really nice! Could you recommend any TT-01 models?

  • Thanks Cartuner25. The TT-01 is a real nice platform with TONS of hopups. I like the new 58449 BMW M3 GT2 2009. It isn't actually out yet but should be real soon.

  • yeah man get the E

  • Hey Im Thinking Of Buying One But One Question How Much Does The Battery Last? And Is The Truck Water Proof?

  • The duration of runtime depends on the capacity of the battery you use. I run 3800 mAh NiMH batteries and get about 35 minutes. In the stock setup, it is not waterproof. Check out the videos djmedic put together. He did a custom waterproof setup.

  • how much was the sound an light package an were did u get it

  • The sound and light kit is Tamiya MFC-02, part number 53957. I picked mine up from my Local Hobby Shop. It is available from TowerHobbies for $399.

  • can I ask??

what color is that .. in your tundra?

  • That paint is from the Tamiya TS spray-can line of paints. The paint code is Tamiya TS-38 Gunmetal. I let the paint cure for a week then did two light coats of Tamiya Clearcoat.

  • tnx men...

  • i was wondering...i just bought a Jugg...im new to the truck and tamiya products...but will that also work for the juggernaut II?? that sound and light kit is sooo baddash!!

  • I believe the Juggernaut uses the same body/shell as the HiLift F350. I haven't seen anyone do it before, but I bet it would work. A Juggernaut with full lights and sound would be really cool to see.

  • how'd you get the sound effects? thats pretty cool

  • CDeLeon791, the sound and lights are all part of a HopUp accessory that Tamiya makes for the Tundra. It is called a MFC-02 and has Tamiya part # 53957. Actually the MFC-02 also works with the Tamiya HiLift F350 and the Tamiya Toyota HiLux.

  • cool

  • a nice truck,,,

i have one F-350 with only rear wheel drive,,,

    no need front wheel drive

  • what do you mean you hav a rear wheel drive all wheel drive is standard for tamiya tundra?!?!

  • really nice job man!! I love the paint color.. looks sweeee-eeet!

  • Thank you djmedic. I have followed your Tundra build videos on RCU, and they are VERY impressive. You have a ton of killer videos.

  • Hello, thank you very much for your answer !

Did you use a primer and a clear too ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Best Regards

  • I used Tamiya Fine Surface Primer (Light Gray) for the primer, and I clearcoated with Tamiya TS-13 Clear.

Are you planning to get a Tundra? It is a blast to build and drive. If you get one, you'll love it.

  • Hello yamata86 !

Thank you very much again for your attention and answer.

Actually, I already have one, and it´s fantastic !

But I don´t know how to paint it, or what materials that I can use.

And your Tundra is very, very, veeeery nice !!

    Thanks,

    Best Regards

  • Hello !

Your Tundra is very nice !

    What is that color ?

    Is it from Tamiya ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Best Regards

  • Thanks for the complement. That color is Tamiya TS-38 Gunmetal.

  • the color looks great on that!
