I personally like Northern styles better, because the kicks and punches are thrown much harder and more powerful and seem to flow together well. but also I LOVE wingchun, so... I don't know lol
I do know what he meant by it but I don't agree with the way he put it. I know you shouldn't limit yourself to a style, but how else do we put a name on the kind of Kung Fu you are practising and identify where and when you learnt it? It's important for documentation of and communication about the combination of techniques you use.
I don't think he should claim that all asian martial arts came from Kung Fu. It's possible, but highly unlikely and there's no evidence to prove it. Plus, the way he talks about his muscles seem as though all he cares about is the size of his muscles. Hey buddy, you don't need huge muscles to practice a southern style.
i think most asians styles came from kung fu, i know karate came from kung fu, and tkd came from karate, so in one way or anther its is likely that it came from a syle of kunbg fu, at elast all style were influenced by it
I will admit it is something I have been noticing more and more over time. I was a little surprised recently when a friend of mine, a jujutsu practitioner, started talking about the horse stance and , due to my own ignorance, I said 'how do you know Horse stance, that's a kung fu stance'. Horse stance I know as a predominantly shaolin stance which does lend some credence to the theory that shaolin was an influence on other styles, but it's only a theory with, sadly, no evidence to support it.
Not all did, some were influenced and mixed into the native styles. Like Karate, yes, based on Kung fu, BUT is different then Kung fu because it was mixed with Okinawan martial art "Te". Korea has Taekkyun, first time to chamber kicks was in Korea, they have their own kicks not from China. Japanese Kendo (Sword) that is not Chinese at all. As long as people fought, people made systems of combat, weather China showed them or not.
oh dear commercial kung fu the worst kind, not even modern wushu but commercial rubbish, tell me why you have your sash/belt tied in the middle? do you understand what you are saying?
your comments are very very general after all Xingyi Quan is northern but it deals in mainly punches and low kicks, also Hung Gar is southern but its highest level is Iron Wire Fist which is internal, you are the worse kind of sifu you only care for money not the art. a pox on you and your kind.
lol i know most kung fu styles are hard lol espcally kung fu. lolo choy lee fut is mostly southern and it has long hand movement and puching almost all its punches are long ranged so idk what the hell he was talking about when he said northern long ranged
What he should have said was "in general" southern styles are short range. Ofcourse there is long range techniques in some, probably even EVERY style. How else can you have a complete system? Even a really close system like Wing Chun has SOME long range attacks.
my friend it seems to me this commercial sifu has no idea what he is talking about i suggest any serious martial artists avoids this channel, plus check out his sash/belt positioning, i think he thinks it looks good but he doesn't understand what he is saying. this worse than modern wushu.
I'm in Southern Kung Fu (Chuan Fa). Depending on which animal we are using, we either use low or high stances. Tiger and Leopard are low, Snake and Dragon are medium, and Crane is high. I myself prefer using tiger style, I like being nice and low, but still have lots of power behind my kicks and punches.
i study it as well as wing chun

i agree with everything except the internal external thing. every real kung fu style should use internal strength and should develop their chi
