Good thinking. Yeah, it does kinda fit. It's like the story about the cover of the first album, and how Warners forced them to alter the picture of Chi Chi Rodriguez. I forget which band member who said that through their corporate intervention, Warners unwittingly created something more Devo than the band had initially intended.
Not to put down FurionHazard's effort to save history with the crappy VHS of 1980. There is another copy on youtube that is less degraded. It is contained in Iky9KglNFs8
That depends on if you want to prioritize sound or video quality. The link you mentioned has horrible sound. It would be cool if someone synced up the one with good audio with the one that has better video quality.
Fridays was ABC-TVs response to Sat. Night Live.... they booked more "new wave" acts, more Los Angeles scene bands like Plasmatics (legendary performance), and served us Michael whathisname from Seinfeld fame. Thank God for DEVO and fond memories of Fridays.
Well yeah the guitars and synths were a little out of whack but that's live music for ya.
Gotta remember as well that analogue synths of the day were notorious for going out of tune ..even a change in temperature at the gig was enough to throw them out.
Yeah it was a little out of tune...still came off pretty well i thought.
i used to have this on a cassette i made taping it off the TV. this was the best show they ever did on fridays when they debuted this and gates of steel.
I saw this live at my great Aunt's house in Sacramento on vacation (I remember it like other people remember Pearl Harbor) and it just blew my mind. I love them at this phase - before the sequencers and when they still played real live onstage with guitars, etc.
Icepick in skull? Are you an expert on that too?? How about you just stick to what you know and help me with my drum tuning. And my car needs tuning....can you help with that?
I've never heard "Fuckball". Quite original. How about I call you a Prancing Twat? How's that? You like?
I'd better wrap this up...I'm sure you have some other well-known musicians to teach the "Wonders of Tuning" to. I've heard Jimmy Page needs help with his guitar. Think you can help him? Sure you can! :-)
Normally I would be put off by instruments out of tune. Except those synth sounds sound cool as hell a little out of tune.
Tell the know it all dude to carry around several analogue synths on tour and make sure all of the oscillators are always pitched exactly the same as they were on the record.
I was this as a kid 12 yrs old and it blew my mind - DEVO absolutely ROCKS here - remember, this was BEFORE they crossed over "Whip It" from FOC LP - early on, they were more an arty nu-wave punk experiment and not a sell-out electro-pop machine - too bad there isn't a FRIDAYS DVD with the best of all the great 80s music acts that played on the show, THE CLASH, PRETENDERS, THE BLASTERS, DEVO, THE JAM, the list goes on & on!
Maybe a year or two ago I asked DEVO about a DVD of their performances and they said there was too much red tape with rights, etc. to make one, and so for now there isn't one. Too bad, that's stuff is gold now.
Do you have the other part of this show when they do Gates of Steel? I see you say there are 4 parts, but only 2 are posted? Did the others get taken down?
BTW, I've always wondered about that guitar Bob Mothersbaugh is playing. Anyone know who built it?

@Kohntarkosz Its a custom Ibanez. If you haven't searched already, there is a great story about it.

I think the "crappy VHS" quality just kinda makes it all the more D-E-V-O. :) kudos for posting it bro!

Did the SpudBoys ever make enuf money to begin construction of the DNA Recombo Lab they had in mind during the The Men Who Make The Music movie?
DancingSpiderman 4 years ago
Mutato is the lab lol. They certainly make enough now.
Jayguy95 4 years ago
The DNA Recombo lab certainly is in the right location, right down on the Sunset Strip. A wide variety of DNA samples around there

Yeah, I have the other two parts, I just need to put it up. I'll go ahead and put the 3rd part up tonight. Thanks for the comment.

Awesome! I'll "catch" that clip this time and save it to my HD in case it gets taken down again. These clips from Fridays rock! Thanks.
