I would say it would be more fun if this was 4 players, but there's a fan game of Battletoads for the OpenBOR engine, and the engine supports 4 players unless any of the mods are made not to.

Anyway, the game is simply called Battletoads for OpenBOR, and aside from the arcade versions of the toads, there's sketch turner from comix zone and a zombie who are also playable, in case you may wanna know.
