  • Isn't this based off the book scruffy? I remember reading that book when I was 8

  • It's amazing that this cartoon came out 32 years ago now things have changed with no-kill shelters,"Animal Cops" to help rescue the abandoned dogs and how this so ironically close to Disney's Lady And The Tramp (Excluding the two "sinister" Siamese cats Si & Am).

  • 7 days!? shit, thats way over the line, don't you think? Thank god we have no kill shelters here in NJ. we also transfer pets from kill shelters to up here where they are safe. my dog Chayce was saved from a kill shelter right after he was born. Still with me turning 3 this year. I can't see my life without him now. =)

  • nwn Ha ha, actually, even though I'm only 17, I used to own the actual movie when I was around 8 years. Mom and dad had a VCR and some how or another dad found the video by chance. Since it had a dog on it (and he knew that I LOVED animals) he found it cute so he gave it to me as a present. I loved that movie and I watched it countless times. Q_Q But then I lost it when we moved a year later. nwn Thank you for posting this. I've been looking all over and yes, it does make you relive childhood.

  • I agree, the start was kinda weird. But I'm guessing they couldn't think of any other way to get the plot moving.

  • i cant believe i missed out of this when i was little D:>

  • Didn't the owners know that Dutchess was pregnant?

  • Wow I've been looking for this!...when I was a child i used to watch this over and over again...I now work for a dog rescue charity and have my own rescue dog called "Scruffy" love love love! its a good way to scare kids into growing up and doing something worthwhile with their life's like animal rescue! x

  • I cried so much when I first saw it at age 14, my step sister worned me not to watch but I did anyway. So after watching this I was like sorry I've watched this.

  • Alex fitsgerald

  • Loved this film as a kid :-)

  • Sorry for the -3 i want to at a heart symbol

  • What a good memory love this so much -3

  • I'm so sorry! I accidentially hit the wrong button on my iphone while trying to post a comment and I think it flagged this as innapropriate... -_- but anyways, I wanted to post that I love the book Scruffy, so thank you for posting this...

  • @Aquamarinequeen10 Nothing's been reported to me, so consider this video safe!

  • I expected Ken's wife to be called Barbie!

  • what a dickhead with the comments! Yeh I used to love this when I was young!

  • @leighhobson89 I'm sorry, who is?

  • Omg I loved this when I was a kid. Don't have the vhs anymore. But glad I can watch it here.

  • when i was a kid i cried really hard over this cartoon....

  • I love Scruffy. I watch this when I was a child too.

  • oh man i used to own this when i was little! :D

  • living with ken and barbie?!

  • I saw the comments before I even had a chance to look at the video. Then I watched part one... It wasn't like they were leaving the dog to die. They had someone coming over to pick the dog up and take her home with them. Then when the new owner came the dog wasn't there. I don't get how some people freak out over that. Even over a damn cartoon. It's sad but it wasn't like it was on purpose.

  • I wonder why this movie hasn't been released on DVD. It's a real classic.

  • I loved this as a kid. I had the VHS tape. Don't believe i still have it.

  • OMG this was my FAVORITE movie ever when I was a kid!!

  • Look its Barbie and Ken!!! Lol just caught that (:

  • Awsome!

  • im scruffy, the janitor.

  • OMG! This was my FAVORITE movie when I was a little girl and I have been looking 4 my kids! THANK U 4 posting it!!!!!

  • uhh there is no janitor here....

  • omg childhood memories

  • ITS CAESAR!

  • this isnt scruffy the janitor!

  • Wait.... She had three/four pups.... O_O This cartoon is soooo off. But i love the way she says "I'm going to have my baby!" as if she just had nothing else to do so she decided to go into labor....

  • Question: is this on blu-ray? or just dvd?

  • @FriezaReturns00001 It's not on Blu-Ray or DVD, I captured this special directly from my VHS tape.

  • @ScruffySpecial

Heyllo ScruffySpecial! Why were you so stupid as to add stupid comments to the video? its so f**king annoying! You screwed it all up for us now. Douche.

  • @Plippito Erm, don't you know there's an option to turn these off? That little red speech bubble on the corner of the player? Yeah, calling me a douche is really helpful. Thanks.

  • @FriezaReturns00001 :If looking for Scruffy on dvd,i have it on dvd, email me.

  • Isn't this a book? I remember reading something exactly like this. I can't find it though.

  • @pima262 Yes, it was based on the book of the same name by Jack Stoneley. It's out-of-print, so the only places to find it are Amazon Marketplace or eBay.

  • OMFG sruffy i saw when i was as kiddy!

is sadder than that garbage of bambi !!

this history can't be for a child!! LOVE IT!!

  • @zocrol It is for children. I assume then Disney hadn't polluted the world with fucked-up trashy movies and television and kids actually understood the world didn't work perfectly.

  • finally Ive been looking for this for ages....dammit...now im crying...fuck you man!!! AND THE MUSIC..... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH (Sorry im 18 but this really was heart breaking for me) i dont care what people say....

  • So much nostalgia. I had the VHS!!!!

  • oh my god, i have searched for this for years, I thought I imagined it. I broke my heart to this movie, many many years ago

  • Those butt nuggets!!! The house is being demolished, aand you tie your pregnant dog there to DIE!!??!??!?!?! Leave her at the shelter, at least there's the chance of the puppy getting adopted!!!! JEAHEAUUASESUSS!!!!!!

  • okay, Duchess had 3 puppies, and it was DAYS later before she had the puppies. Oh dear, the things they'll do with books about dogs. thanks for uploading though,

  • It's like an 80's-style Greek Tragedy.

  • I actually saw It in Swedish as a kid and I adored It:) maybe because I adore dogs in general?

  • I Just Love This Movie, I Remember I Used To Have The VHS Tape Of This Movie, And I Also Remember Watching It Every Single Day. I Hope When My Neices Are Older, I'm Going To Get Them Into Watching This Movie.

  • I used to cry at the beginning when Scruffy's house was destroyed and I remember watching this in the 80s when i was just a kid

  • Is it weird that I was expecting the couples names to be Ken and barbie?

  • Yay, more obscure talking dog cartoons for me to obsess over! Maybe I should add a page for this on TVTropes if one doesn't exist yet.

  • Watching this again has made me sad. It just shows how terrible people to thier animals. I watch this when I was little as well. Understanding more now than I did then just makes this movie even more.

  • hey guys - i absolutely love this film! me and my cousin watched it hundreds of times when we were little c.1986 - i've just been on amazon and ebay looking for it on dvd but its only on vhs... so i'm very thankful to find it uploaded here - thank you.

Does anyone know how i would go about putting the uploaded film from here onto a DVD? i really want my wife to watch it and we're due the birth of our baby 4 days ago so would love to have it ready for the baby when its a bit older... cheers

  • Regardless of what a messed up message this show is sending to kids/sent to kids... I appreciate that you've uploaded it... Thanks from a Canadian in Europe :)

  • By the way dogs can have only one puppy in a littler :)

  • @TwilightsDudey Are you serious? I hope ur kidding

  • @TwilightsDudey Are you kidding? Ur not serious are you ?

  • @bob102960

No seriously. dogs can sometimes have only one puppy in a litter. I am a dog breeder I should know

  • @TwilightsDudey: Most dogs are able to have more than one puppy in a litter, on average it's around 3-5. It largely depends on the breed, though.

  • @ScruffySpecial

yeah I know they are able to have more than one I was pointing out that they Can have 1 in a litter. My dog has an average of 7 and my other dog has 11. the one that has 7 is a yorkshire terrier and the one that has 11 is a cocker spaniel. and my firends rottweiler has only 1-3 in every litter she had 1 in two litters. its quite strange it depends on egg and sperm count and what day of her season she is mated on lol just saying

  • This show is hilarious. I remember watching it as a kid too. There are so many things wrong, I don't know where to begin. Them leaving the dog alone, the lady not even trying to look for her...the fact that she has one baby...not a litter. LOL. Thanks for uploading though.

  • @AtreidesHeir: Hehe, as for your last point, I remember in the book Duchess had more than one puppy in her litter, but Scruffy is the only survivor.

  • @ScruffySpecial :D Thanks for sharing that information! Poor Scruffy's siblings...and her mother...and...her!! Dog was doomed from day one!!! It's fun to watch though, hahah I'm even going to share it with a few of my friends!

  • @ScruffySpecial *_* rly...? I thought she ate them for a minute in this film lol.

  • Huh, I'm pretty sure they check buildings for people before they burn them

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!

I LOVED IT AS A CHILD TOO, WATCHED IT LIKE A MILLION TIMES!! <333

  • I bought this on video at age 23 because once I read about it, I knew I had to see it...and I was right...it's amazing. I'd been looking for it online, but there was no trace. Wish it could have been a childhood memory, but I'm glad to own Scruffy now!

  • Wow, I can't believe I still have this on VHS.

  • Omg, i finally found the movie i loved for over 20 years ago :)

  • its been year last i saw this movie

  • I remember this as a child and I watched it too too much, but its great to see it again and its just as depressing as ever.

  • I remember seeing bits of this movie on VHS a very long time ago at my grandma's house.

  • *pfffffftttt!!!!!* the guys name is KEN!!!????? 8DDDD HAHAHAHAHHAAAAAA*dies of laughter* HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!! his wife is like Barbie and he's ken!!! that is so stupid and hilarious at the same time!!!!XDDDDDD

  • omg i read the book XD i found the book in my moms old stack of books. i see the dog and im like 'OOOO!! DOGGYYYY!!' i dont remember much of it but i remember that i really liked it. *dont remember the ending though* XD

  • This was such a great movie! Definitely part of my childhood nostalgia...and I love how real it was - It was more real than most movies for adults these days. I used to cry watching this, but I think it gave me a good dose of humility and respect. Maybe that's what society is lacking today. Anyway, don't mean to get all philosophical. This movie just had such an impact on me as a child. I lost my father very young and I think this movie was about the only film I related with. Thank you!

  • Wtf is wrong with these people. Have they never heard of an animal shelter.

DEEEERP, I'll just tie her up, it'll be fine!

    They need to be shot.

  • I had this video when I was very young and I loved it. And one day my mum accidently melted it on top of the cooker!

  • @RG7621@: Really? I've heard of tapes breaking/being chewed in the VCR, but how did THAT happen, just out of curiosity?

  • @ScruffySpecial I don't know. She must have been cleaning and just left it there? I don't remember as I was so young.

  • @RG7621 sorry but what the fuckkkk is ur mom some kind of bitch

  • @Mateo5667 Honest mistake I think lol. Although my WWF Hulk Hogan lunch box also suffered the same fate.

  • I use to love this cartoon when I was little. It something I always wanted my children to watch! Thank you!

  • The construction worker with the brown hair sounds like Freddy from Scooby Doo

  • I Just Love This Cartoon Movie, Oh Btw If Anyone Has Any ABC Weekend Special Promo Of This Cartoon, Would Someone Please Upload It, Oh Another Btw If Anyone Has A Full Clip Of Another Cartoon Show, Bunnicula the vampire rabbit, would you please upload it too.

  • Does Anyone Have Any Clips Of Another Cartoon Show, Binnicula the vampire rabbit?.

  • @DimeraFan28 Oh! That was 'The Celery Stalks at Midnight'! I remember that...I loved that one, too.

  • I loved this animation when I was young in the 80s, and I have to say this was one really sad movie. That poor dog lost everyone she loved from her mother to her homeless master, to nearly her rescuer. I cried over and over everytime I watched it.

  • @taliesin3927: It was Dean Elliott, who also composed "Phantom Tollbooth".

  • SCRUFFY!!!!!! omg! i remember watching and crying at the end of this movie when i was a kid! it brings back such good memories!!!! thanks for posting =D

  • @AkiNY82 Me 2! ^^

  • WoW! Scruffy the dog was the only good thing I had in my youth...

  • @Sinvudyo, I think that Scruffy's mom is one brave dog, getting out of that burning house, saving her life and her baby's life too.

  • thanks alot for uploading this, i was talking to my dad about scruffy the dog today, me and my brother watched this like a million times, i think this cartoon is the reason i wanted an dog so much wen i was a kid, i eventuly got my wish when i was 14 and i got a choc labrador rolo, i had to put him asleep 2 weeks ago, RIP rolo, anyone have an idea were i could buy scruffy ? i would appreciate any help, because id like to buy it for my nephew to watch

  • @redman9pablo: There are a few VHS copies here and there on eBay and Amazon Marketplace, but because of their rarity they are rather expensive.

  • @redman9pablo, I think you might looking for it on Ebay and on Amazon.com.

  • happy chrismus marry newyear

  • Omg, I haven't seen this in like 10 years! :0

  • I loved this movie back when I was little. Thanks for uploading it.

  • I remember my grandmother showing me this when I was little. I loved it and was so disappointed when I couldn't find it until now!

  • I really, really miss these kinds of stories in animation. Everything is so sanitized today. It makes you worry the younger generation may be less ready to handle the real world when it's time to find out it's not all happy stuff.

  • Hard to believe this special is now 30 years old.

  • I haven't seen this movie since I was 4!!! Thank you so much for uploading it!!!

  • omg i love this movie

  • Um, I hope those people get arrested at the end for abandoning their pregnant dog to starve.

    Heartless bastards.

  • @kbirdusa: That certainly wasn't their intention. They left her there for their friend/relative Helen to pick up and give her a new home, but because she had broken loose Helen assumed she had run away. Her owners were also possibly short of money and were forced to move into an apartment instead of a house.

  • @kbirdusa yeah, thats what i keep thinking, and to tie her up? sure they didnt want her to roam the streets but thats even worse.

  • thank you so so so much for uploading this!! i use to watch this all the time as a kid! but then the tape stoped working. i have been also looking for this movie for like a year now and am so happy i have finally gotten to watch it again

  • Thank you for uploading this. I haven't seen this in years, I used to watch it all the time as a kid. I wonder if someone could tell me if the book is based closely to how the tv special is.

  • @Nitelathe: The special is fairly close to the book. If you look at the descriptions of each part, I've explained the changes made to the story.

  • WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH THOSE PPL!! IF YOU CANT TAKE YOUR PET WITH YOU GIVE IT TO A SHELTER! DONT LEAVE IT TO STARVE! YOU STUPID IDIOTS!! I HATE PPL WHO DO THAT AND THINK ITS OK! I WATCH ANIMAL COPS AND SEE THAT ALL TO OFTEN! OU, THAT MAKES ME SO MAD!! Thumbs up if you agree!

  • thanks for uploading. I watched this every single day from the age of 3 to 4. Definitely stuck with me

  • omg! i haven't seen this flick for more than 10 years!!! i remember watching it when i was a kid. it's real sad. i know i'll cry now that i'm older :'-(

  • omg finally! I've been looking for this movie for years X3

  • OMFG!!!! IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS CARTOON FOR LIKE 10 YEARS NOW I GOT IT ON VHS BUT ITS ALL MESSED UP AND WONT PLAY!!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!! HAHAHA CARTOON WAS SAD.... :(

  • Thanks so much for putting this up! I watched it on TV when I was a kid and I've been looking for it for years! I just showed the entire thing to my kids. :)

  • thank you ive been looking for this movie everywhere.

  • Oh my gosh, I've been waiting for someone to add this, I'm so excited! This was my fav movie as a kid! Thanks so much!

  • I'm one of the lucky ones who own a VHS copy...and I'm old enough to remember when "Scruffy" first aired....and the advertising fanfare that preceded it. It is a great little film, very well done. Fact of interest...some have criticized the film for being a "Lady and the Tramp" knock off. Charles Nichols...who worked on both "Bambi" and "Lady" directed this film as well. His style of animation and scenework is very evident.

  • Thanks so much for posting! This is one of my childhood favorites. Happily, I was lucky enough to snag a VHS copy at the Price Club many years ago.

  • Its Caesar!

  • scruffy special,,,,do u feel like singing with me,,,or can i count u out,hehe,,,,,finaly all of them are done,brilliant,,if u are a girl i would kiss u for ages,if u are a boy i will say thanks,hahahahaha,,johnathan sr casey

  • @johnathansrc: Hehe, you're welcome. =D

  • Oh finally! When will the rest be added?

  • @Maldor20: They will all hopefully be added by this week. I'm still working on it!

  • @ScruffySpecial Im looking forward to it!
