In the 40's-60's everyone smoked if secondhand smoke would have been harmful the species would have died out.It's all about teaching us to be under controll to yeild to the new facists. If you don't like what the EPA had to say, you might want to read the Center of Disease Control (CDC). They say the exact same thing. Lung Cancer is the leader of all cancers and are caused by smoking and the EPA and CDC is right. Secondhand smoke causes lung cancer as well. Smokers are killing themselves and other people whether you want to believe it or not. Smoking should be banned anywhere and everywhere for the sake of life, period.

20 years I worked in the restaurant business in Chicago & retired in 97. I will tell you that 95% of all waitresses & waiters smoked. IDK how the employees are getting through their shifts today without a cigarette? Pity them & hope that these rediculous bans are thrown in the garbage one day.

this makes me think about the other day, when I visited a town hall (in a very small town). I walked in, and the lady working there was puffing on a cigarette. The funny thing was the police station was in the same building. Then I went to the store just down the road from where I live, and there were ash trays sitting on the tables. I live in eastern N.C. and there are tobacco fields all over, so I guess it's a way of life around here.

I have been in many resturants before the "smoking" ban and they had air exhaust systems that made the resturant smell totally smoke free. The point is like she said, do you want the govt telling you how to run your business, and one step further to run your life. First make it ok, not to hire smokers because of company health insurance costs, then the next step will be overweight people. Discrimination and being intollerant of others is not cool. Great video.

I agree: let the restaurant owner decide. If employees don't want to work at an establishment that permits smoking, they don't have to; likewise, non-smoking customers don't have to frequent the place. Let the market -- not the government -- dictate which way the wind, or smoke, blows :-D

I find it very rude when I go to a public place and someone is puffing on a cigarette when others are trying to eat. For one it stinks like hell, no one wants to be around that while chewing on a steak. Second, its an irritant.....causes numerous irritations on the face and nasal/throat cavity to many non smokers. Its very selfish to argue that you should be able to smoke in a public place.
Ever put sauce on that steak? Steak sauce contains tomato - which ALSO has nicotine in it. You're getting about the same amount from that yummy sauce as you would sitting near a smoker. If you go into a restaurant, test the atmosphere of a "non" smoking side and the smoking side. The toxic levels are the same. This was a study done by MANY Universities. I have asthma and any type of smoke from nicotine gives me migraines. Why should other people suffer because you want to slowly kill your body?
I have a lot of smoking friends that said they would stop getting to bars or restaurants following the ban. A month later, they got bored staying home and started going again.

I am neutural on the law. there are pros and cons. as u said, why would u do somehting that will probably hurt ur business, such as make people go outside, or make them sit in an enclosed area where it is more dangerous, the smoke building up like that? Is it really a fate worse than death to have to get up and drag your body OUTDOORS to smoke? I think not. I mean, really, some of us don't like the smell and we don't like smoke stinging our eyes. Even if a place has a smoking and non-smoking section, smoke still carries over. And you can only move so far away from it until you might as well eat outside, and that's not fair. Non-smokers have just as much right to eat indoors as smokers.

I like the smoking ban. I cant stand the smell, It makes me sick. Im a big bar hopper and i dont like coming home and smelling like a butt head. My apartment is full of smokers, and the thing that gets me is all the kids living hear, have to deal with it. And half the time they dont go to school because there sick.

I just love how the goverment puts all these things in our face even meds yrs ago that have addicted people and now you cant get it because they see its bad, they did the same thing with smoking and thier doing it even now with all these new drugs on informmercials everynight.
As someone that is watching his father who is slowly and painfully dying because of smoking, I have zero tolerance for smoking or smokers. Smoking should be banned, period! And don't try to use the usual "alcohol" defense because it is not the same. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING good comes from smoking, NOTHING! It is poison and waste. Non-smoker section my ass. I'm sorry, but if you are stupid enough to smoke then you're in no position to complain about the efforts to stop this spreading of poison.
I am a former smoker. Ireland did this and you should see the results. It is awesome. The bar owners/employees love it. There was a recent article about Pueblo Colorado and that the rate of heart attacks dropped big time. We have noise bans. Would you appreciate someone sitting next to you in a restaurant blaring music so loud it would damage your hearing? We are the only animal on earth that doesn't fear and run away from smoke. Don't kid yourself. I loved it too but it kills period!
Thats the law in England hun.. smokers have to smoke outside in smoking gardens ect. problem is a lot of small scale pubs & clubs who dont hav the facilities 2 provide smoking areas hav had 2 close down cos non smokers said theyd go to pubs if smokers werent in there... guess what they didnt lol. Krissie, the reason you need to stop smoking, is because smoking gradually reduces your capacity for clear thinking. And clear thinking is what you need to set yourself free inside. Smoking will contribute to your confusions, like the haze that blocks the sun. You're mind will not have the ability to cope or remedy inner battles, and it will not just put your physical health at risk, but it will also lead to great unhappiness. So, smoke if you want, but just be aware of what you're doing.

I think people should be allowed to smoke, but because of my heart, I can't have any second-hand smoke. I wish I could go places that I can't simply because people are smoking. However, I think banning smoking is the same as banning perfume. Some people are deathly allergic to perfume, but that doesn't mean you ban it.
A smoker isn't bothered by smoke, so a smoker can go to 100% of establishments. A non-smoker such as myself cannot for any number of reasons:choice, distaste or medical. I have been medically diagnosed as being asthmatic to smoke. I cannot go where smokers are... at least in enclosed spaces. This is the point. No one is telling smokers that they can't keep smoking, but they government (either by edict, or popular vote) is saying that its time that non-smokers rights are being protected.
Living without freedom or liberties may couse some Americans to become depressed which leads to heart disease, obeseity, and several other health issues. They should ban laws due to health concerns. Actually smoking bans could be considerd assault.
I think one of the reasons the government is focusing so much on smoking is becuase its a great way for politicians to get some power off of buissnesses. I agree that restaurants should have a choice of having a seperate smoking section when the government does this there are interfering with free capitalism, we are not communist the government should not control our bussinesses. Get over yourself! Smoking is not a right in public places. It is not a constitutional right. We all have the right to clean air. If you don't like what the EPA had to say, you might want to read the Center of Disease Control (CDC). They say the exact same thing. Lung Cancer is the leader of all cancers and are caused by smoking and the EPA and CDC is right. Secondhand smoke causes lung cancer as well. Smokers are killing themselves and other people whether you want to believe it or not. Smoking should be banned anywhere and everywhere for the sake of life, period.

20 years I worked in the restaurant business in Chicago & retired in 97. I will tell you that 95% of all waitresses & waiters smoked. IDK how the employees are getting through their shifts today without a cigarette? Pity them & hope that these rediculous bans are thrown in the garbage one day.

this makes me think about the other day, when I visited a town hall (in a very small town). I walked in, and the lady working there was puffing on a cigarette. The funny thing was the police station was in the same building. Then I went to the store just down the road from where I live, and there were ash trays sitting on the tables. I live in eastern N.C. and there are tobacco fields all over, so I guess it's a way of life around here.

I have been in many resturants before the "smoking" ban and they had air exhaust systems that made the resturant smell totally smoke free. The point is like she said, do you want the govt telling you how to run your business, and one step further to run your life. First make it ok, not to hire smokers because of company health insurance costs, then the next step will be overweight people. Discrimination and being intollerant of others is not cool. Great video.

i am a non smoker. firstly, this country was based on the idea of free enterprise. your going to force a business to change their ways because of some silly law? what about the business owners and customers. maybe your mistake was stepping into a place where clearly, smoking is allowed. if it's allowed somewhere i will enter anyway, but that's MY choice. i haven't smoked for some years, but that doesn't make me any stronger as a person either.

I agree: let the restaurant owner decide. If employees don't want to work at an establishment that permits smoking, they don't have to; likewise, non-smoking customers don't have to frequent the place. Let the market -- not the government -- dictate which way the wind, or smoke, blows :-D

I find it very rude when I go to a public place and someone is puffing on a cigarette when others are trying to eat. For one it stinks like hell, no one wants to be around that while chewing on a steak. Second, its an irritant.....causes numerous irritations on the face and nasal/throat cavity to many non smokers. Its very selfish to argue that you should be able to smoke in a public place.

If you go into a restaurant, test the atmosphere of a "non" smoking side and the smoking side. The toxic levels are the same. This was a study done by MANY Universities. I have asthma and any type of smoke from nicotine gives me migraines. Why should other people suffer because you want to slowly kill your body?

I have a lot of smoking friends that said they would stop getting to bars or restaurants following the ban. A month later, they got bored staying home and started going again.
We're in 2009, non-smokders outnumber smokers, majority rules. That's just the way it is. It is done and will not change.

I actually agree with you on many of your opinions coincide with mine, but I have a problem with this one. I have an allergy to smoke, and I have asthma. I am also a hypochondriac, I admit.
This made it very hard to go places in public. As much as you may feel unfairly locked out of smoking, I feel much worse because I have absolutely no control over. I understand you can't just stop though, but atleast it's possible. I can't get rid of my asthma, nor allergies. Atleast you have some control.

All good- great post. People need to worry more about the air they breathe in a city street. ETS (s/h smoke) is way lower in carbon monoxide levels. Not a single study by the EPA, WHO, whoever has ever proved that ETS is harmful or in any way linked to cancer. Even ASH admits this. As for 'bad smells' e.g. tobacco, I don't happen to like the smell of junk food but I don't whine about it.

I am neutural on the law. there are pros and cons. as u said, why would u do somehting that will probably hurt ur business, such as make people go outside, or make them sit in an enclosed area where it is more dangerous, the smoke building up like that? Also, what about kids who don't hav a choice? Kids would b sitting in the car with a parent or grandparent, but they nevr open the window enough or at all. like i said, there are pros and there are cons to the situation.

Is it really a fate worse than death to have to get up and drag your body OUTDOORS to smoke? I think not. I mean, really, some of us don't like the smell and we don't like smoke stinging our eyes. Even if a place has a smoking and non-smoking section, smoke still carries over. And you can only move so far away from it until you might as well eat outside, and that's not fair. Non-smokers have just as much right to eat indoors as smokers.

Well said. What doesn't make any sense is that government dictates that grown adults are not to be trusted to make the decision as to whether or not to work in a bar that allows smoking, and yet they are perfectly able to decide whether or not they actually smoke the cigarettes themselves.
Anyway, the passive smoking thing is utter rubbish and they know it. It's all about 'denormalising' smoking, or rather social engineering, and that is far more revolting than any whiff of smoke ever was.

i'm from the netherlands and a complete smoking ban for public spaces has been instated not that lon ago. On one side I agree with it, because everyone needs to be able to enjoy the spaces, on the onther hand I totally agree with tou. It's people's and businessowner's own choice if they want to smoke or not.

As a non-smoker you have around a 1 in 10,000 chance of contracting lung cancer. 1.24 raises the risk to 1.24 in 10k. But that is the RR for those who have lived with smokers for decades, so occasionally popping in a bar is more like an RR of 1.024. That's 1.024 in 10,000. If you are worried about that kind of risk you'd never walk out your front door.

I am a former smoker. Ireland did this and you should see the results. It is awesome. The bar owners/employees love it. There was a recent article about Pueblo Colorado and that the rate of heart attacks dropped big time. We have noise bans. Would you appreciate someone sitting next to you in a restaurant blaring music so loud it would damage your hearing? We are the only animal on earth that doesn't fear and run away from smoke. Krissie, the reason you need to stop smoking, is because smoking gradually reduces your capacity for clear thinking. And clear thinking is what you need to set yourself free inside. Smoking will contribute to your confusions, like the haze that blocks the sun. You're mind will not have the ability to cope or remedy inner battles, and it will not just put your physical health at risk, but it will also lead to great unhappiness. A smoker isn't bothered by smoke, so a smoker can go to 100% of establishments. A non-smoker such as myself cannot for any number of reasons:choice, distaste or medical. I have been medically diagnosed as being asthmatic to smoke. I cannot go where smokers are... at least in enclosed spaces. This is the point. No one is telling smokers that they can't keep smoking, but they government (either by edict, or popular vote) is saying that its time that non-smokers rights are being protected.

That's what Bans do - they deny the choice for you to go to non-smoking bars and me to go to smoking bars. Besides, bars are not "PUBLIC SPACES." - you don't have a right to go there. They are private property, and the owner should have the right to allow or disallow what they want. Don't agree? Try going to the bar in the Hilton in a G-string and see how far you get.

Actually, I wanted to say one thing that I failed to mention. You are a pretty girl. It is a shame that in 20-30 years of smoking, that could all change. Smokers get haggard and wrinkled and loose their vocal cords. It is not too late to stop smoking.

Bottom line, you go somewhere else. Smokers have already lost this battle in many states. And the trend will be no smoking in most areas in the US within 5-10 years. No doubt.

Get over yourself! Smoking is not a right in public places. It is not a constitutional right. We all have the right to clean air. And yes, because you want to smoke in bar or restaurant, does not give you the right to tell a non-smoker to go to another place to live, drink, eat, or enjoy the company of others.

As an occasional Smoker of Pipes/Cigars/Hookahs, I say let us smoke, for me it can be a guilty Pleasure!, esp up here in Canada where i can by Cuban Cigars!!. We have stupid smoking bans in the province of ontario & the Tax is outrageous, I fear no one but myself & mother natures fury, no one is going to tell me what i can & can't put in my lungs!

Yeah, I'm really gonna waste my time researching cigarettes? NOT. BTW, Krissie, we all do not have a 100% of dying. You can either spend all of eternity in a place that will torture you and slowly burn, or you can spend all of eternity walking on streets of gold with the Heavenly Father. Your choice. And about the tax on cigarettes, if you're gonna continue to buy them at that price, it pretty much is an addiction

Heaven & Hell are places, but not of fiction. Jesus is real. He loves you, even if you don't love Him. Smoking causes lung cancer, sometimes oral cancer too. Smoking is not a habit, more of an addiction. You have to understand, not everyone sees things as you do, or don't. Get over it, it's my opinion. You have the right to your opinion & I have the right to think it's wrong. Get over it

I'm a Christian, that is different than Catholic in a few ways. God created science, people created religion. The Bible is not just a bunch of stories that were made up, it's a life guide and stories of people with different religion and views and how God changed them. You can never deceive God no matter what you do. I may be a 'kid' but as for religion I am a woman of God and a follower of Christ

I'm a smoker and I just see this whole smoking ban as just another part of the New World Order and one world government. Luckily smokeasies are showing up all over the world now if only I could find one. It's actually exciting to smoke and drink inside now. Smokers Unite!!!

I do not smoke, However both of my parents smoke and so does my brother. I have asthma and honestly cig smake does not trigger it at all. My biggest problem is perfume. I would like to see it banned No one should be able to wear it! OK to be serious I think it is insane all of this second hand smoke crap. People are getting cancer NOT by smoking but by eating too much food with preservitives.
I think if I owned my own business I should be alowed to say who is alowed in my establishment!!
