NIce, I just started kayak fishing in the QuadCities area, already finding even a fish that size can pull you around, lol. How'd you rig up your camera?
since I'm just starting out I bought a good starter kayak. It's an Ocean Kayak scrambler XT. You can pick up the yak for around 500. Setting up afterwards with rod holders, fishfinder, etc ads to the cost but don't have to be bought right away. If you don't already i highly recommend giving it a shot. You won't regret it. I actually just picked up a sit in wilderness systems and will try and run a video on basic rigging without spending a lot of money.
hye, ive been looking for a rod thats decently strong and has a but of backbone that can handle a big fight. because of the way i fish for catfish and bass with live gills i need one that can handle a 25-30lb catfish if it get into it. Your pole looks like it would do the trick what kind is it?
Sorry for the late replies. Honestly, if i'm going out for a day trip i'll take at least 4 different rods with different action pending on what I'm going for. The rod I was using was a 7 ft St. Croix triumph ML. When kayak fishing the length of the rod is pretty important. I usually carry a 7'6, two 7, and 1 6'6. The longer rods help with the hook sets since you're usually seated. the shorter rods help because it's less difficult to manage.
Sorry I'm getting back to you so late on this. Things have been pretty busy. I'm still learning the best way to hook it up but basically i bought a high end tripod to provide stability and i used a couple of small bungee chords to mount the tripod down on the front. It's pretty sturdy. I definitely think you should look into getting one. Let me know if you do, I'd definitely go out on a trip with you.
Nice Video John, I've been looking to get a canoe or kyak for my home waters :-] But Was always wary on the camera part, How'd you set it up on your kayak? Thanks, George
You just have to make sure you're aware of what's going on around you. If you're angle of the kayak is parralel to the wave when it hits you could be in trouble. If you face the wave from a perpendicular angle (head on) you should be able to ride it fine with no problems.

whats better a longer paddle or a shorter paddle or does it even matter
2mofosfulofit 2 years ago
a shorter paddle is easier to move a longer paddle gives you more power but is much heavier it very much matters especially if you are on a long trip

I see that u had three rods with along with you. How many rigs did u fish with out of that kayak?

I usually fish one or two. It gets tougher the more lines you have out. I'll usually live rig one and use artificial for the other.

What happens when a big boat makes a huge wave?
